Venetian poker room going Euro style dealing
Several regs have been saying its coming and it was confirmed with multiple dealers tonight that they are in training now and it starts likely August 1st.
Euro dealing is when they slide the cards across the table, I think this is a bad idea and will make it slow and awkward, the dealers aren't happy about it.
There was talk about South Point getting ready to do this several months ago, but according to a SP reg, they never did it.
The reason for this is game protection after an incident with phone on the rail recording the cards as being dealt and used to cheat.

As a dealer, I just had a conversation with a fellow dealer a few weeks ago about this.
We both agreed that it would take a little bit of time for muscle memory to kick in, but once it did, we both felt we could both deal faster with this method.
Dealing 8 (or 9) hands in front of yourself and then pushing the cards to the players could be done incredibly fast with very little variance.
Don't get me wrong, with a very fast dealer under ideal conditions, I think pitching cards is faster, but the problem is that when pitching cards it is rarely ideal. It always seems there are obstacles. There is the ******* in seat one with his arms/hands extended forward blocking easy tosses to seats 2 and 3. Or the idiot putting his hands in the expected landing zone meaning the dealer has to adjust and adapt, slowing them down. Or the player with the drink, the napkins, and his card protector all in the target area making it harder on the dealer.
TDLR, I think in general, once dealers get used to this procedure, the best dealers will generally be faster.

When I was there this summer, they tried to enforce a rule that you couldn't have your cell phone on the railing (in fear of someone recording). It felt akward and unnatural, and after one day that rule was removed (no mention of it ever again).
As someone who has experience with Euro-style card sliding instead of high pitch, I think it's great and does not slow down the game at all. Quite the contrary, as some dealers become extremely efficient and can almost shoot the cards out towards you (not sure how to best describe it).
Might be a bit slower for a week or two after it has been introduced, but most dealers at Venetian seems pretty good and should be able to adapt.

I have no doubt that there are cameras you could put on the rail and capture this and have a team relay the info to you thru earpiece I guess, but are people really doing this in under 5/10nl games? I guess they can practice up in smaller games, it just seems like it would quickly be obvious if someone was doing this, now that we all saw a certain other person use this method.

And you can have a stand for your phone and that works, silly rules and as of now they are extremely lax on enforcing any of it, but I guess when they implement the dealing, they will be hard on the other rules also.

My opinion is if the V is changing their standard routine there is a problem.
Back in the day I had access to the Griffin book and people were always coming up with new creative ways to cheat. With how advanced cameras are on cell phones "Euro dealing"seems like a great ez way to add protection to casino poker. It does not take much info to have a massive edge and flying under the radar by playing under 5T you can still make PILES. People kill for less.

Yeah, I can see how if your camera was on the table, the lens could see the cards as they were dealt and an app could recognize the cards.
I've never seen seven card stud dealt "Euro Style".
Stud has always been dealt by pitching the cards just like in a flop game (or draw game).
Actually, triple draw games will use something like a Euro-style during the draws.
It's a "normal" card pitching when the first five cards are dealt.
Yea, that sounds right. I was remembering some Euro style dealing on a WSOP Las Vegas broadcast a few years ago, but that explains what I saw.

I blame indifference, and alcohol.
the blame is an emphasis on speed and other things to pay attention to. in blackjack they deal to just a few players and often it is not from a single deck held in their hand and the order is always the same. in poker they are dealing like 16 or 18 cards at once and there is much more distractions like button position (who gets dealt first) and double checking that blinds are out correct

While hand held BJ games have gotten a lot more rare after covid they still exist. Dealers are just way less sloppy in BJ bc it's the casinos money at stake so casino management will correct them fast. Meanwhile a poker dealer can roll the deck all night and never have anyone say anything including if they do it right in front of a floorman.
