Glad he was unharmed. The thieves having advanced knowledge of his address, door code, and timing their arrival perfectly after he cashed out makes this a bizarre and spooky case.

I don't see how they could pull this off without inside info from someone else staying at his Airbnb or someone who visited it prior to the break-in. He didn't mention anything about that on twitter, which makes sense for him not to while police investigate. He did tweet that he thought someone at the WSOP was watching him though.

I guess as long as we’re here, remember Duhamel & Hoyt Corkins.

Not sure if hotel is any safer than home rental. Case in point, Greg Raymer 2005 @ Bellagio.

https://lasvegassun.com/news/2005/jun/13...

"I continued yelling for help and walked down the hall after them and then I saw the Bellagio security guards came toward us. I screamed (that) they were trying to rob me, they have a gun and the security guards stepped aside and did not try to detain them in any way."

The security guards who responded to Raymer's screams said Friday they didn't try to stop the two men because the guards were unarmed. Instead they called the main security office for help.

Nevertheless, Cassim and Joy made it to the elevators and exited the casino without being detained.

Although Joy and Cassim would flee Las Vegas and remain at large for close to five months the pair was arrested in the San Diego area and extradited to Las Vegas three weeks ago.

Why are a good chunk of people on x, facebook, reddit calling this guy a liar and saying its some sort of insurance scam or defrauding his backers lol. I mean hes probably an idiot for carrying that amount of cash around, but the story to me sounds totally believable , and I feel bad for the guy.

Primarily because those theories also are totally believable given the information I have seen and explain certain facts(the timing, access to the Airbnb, the targeting of this individual) slightly better than the robbery scenario. I have no idea which scenario is true but neither do you.

I don't think it's a scam and also just cause you got robbed doesn't mean you don't owe me the money you owe me, all this scam does is buy you time. I believe there was some video from a neighbors camera in one of the articles showing the people. "Griener claims that the two men knew the door code to his Airbnb and that video surveillance from neighbors showed they had arrived

The same thing was said when people questioned if that guy that faked cancer got a Main Event seat, it’s likely this isn’t a scam but there are some red flags and poker players are shady as hell, what if he suddenly in few days has a gofundme up?

I've seen footage of him knocking at his neighbor's house and LV police confirmed they are investigating a robbery.

I was hoping he was George Constanza with a web of lies. He was a skilled architect and didn't really take him long to design the Guggenheim

Why only footage from neighbors ring cam, why wouldnt the airbnb hes at have its own? I dont know a single airbnb owner who doesnt have their own cameras set up at each entrance to their property

I would trust you that they do but fact that only neighbors' footage is now available doesn't mean the Airbnb he stayed at doesn't have it

For those of us that believe this is legit, do we think he ran his mouth off with a stripper/sex worker, was randomly spotted shoving straps into his backpack at the cage, or some casino employee tipped them off?

Any footage from the airbnb itself is in custody of the police if they're conducting an investigation. Police are not going to make video evidence public early in investigations for obvious reasons.

the first one is the only one that's even remotely plausible IF he brought her to Airbnb AND she had the wherewithal to peek and memorize the code AND he showed her a bunch of cash AND bragged about coming back with more cash the next day (also needed to have a couple of goons on speed dial willing to do the dirty work but that's like 90%+ of Vegas working girls)

it's still super uncommon otherwise there'd be reports of Airbnb John's being jacked by trannies all over Vegas

I'd put a combined probability of all three at less than 1%

We all overhear conversations in public all the time.
It could be as simple as someone Jared knows ran into him and they had a convo such as below.

Friend: Hey Jared, hows things going? Series going good?
Jared: Yeah, its going ok, how about you?
Friend: Same, I busted the main day 2, took a beat, how about you?
Jared: Sorry to hear that, I actually got like 200th for 60k.
Friend: Nice!!! Playing anything else or you taking off soon?
Jared: Probably heading out Thursday, been here 4 weeks, ready to go home.
Friend: Cool cool, a friend and I have been here 2 weeks, we stayed at Paris, it was ok how about you.
Jared: Oh, it was just me, I found a nice Air BNB house like 10 minutes off strip.

Could have happened, on a break, at a casino bar, blackjack table, slot machine or wherever. Not implying "friend" above was involved, but that a 3rd party who overheard, "Cashed for 60k, staying off strip at AirBnb" and decided to follow, see what was going on. Got the Air BNB code, not hard to do. Entered the AirBnb when he wasn't there and didn't find any money but either him or a partner tailed him and eventually saw him go to WSOP cage to cashout. Called partner and was like, he just cashed out, get to the AirBNB!!!!

I didn't have that exact conversation but I had a similar one when I ran into someone I knew on a break during an event, asked him how long he was in vegas for, things going good/bad, asked if his brother was out there too. Just the type of casual conversation you have when you run into another poker player/acquaintance you know at the WSOP.

Who knows what happened, it could be legit or faked, no way to know, but there are plausible scenarios of how this happened in a legit way.

I've had up to five airbnbs running concurrently -- none of my airbnbs had cameras.

So the "but how much did u lose?" question isn't so dumb after all
