To be fair it’s also pretty weak that the sitting democratic governor could not secure the nomination against him.

A governor has a track record that can be judged and uf Maine voters weren’t impressed that’s fine. But much of Platner’s supposed appeal was personality based and voters made a huge mistake in that. That he’s blaming the media and political establishment for his downfall is just the cherry on top. The dude is awful no matter how much he has in common with the typical Maine voter. That’s why in stuff like hiring you try your best to be more objective.

Yes. It’s very easy for people to confuse agreeing with someone’s rhetoric with them being qualified for the job.

Platner should just change parties. Maga would love him.

Why do you need a special toilet? Just take a **** in your garden.

If you mix it up with sawdust and straw, it helps break it down and it doesn't stink. Then you're going to want to mix it in with other compost so it's not so concentrated.

Putting crap straight on your lawn or your flower bed isn't ideal.

I have a compost about 6ft from the edge of my garden and almost every year I get a fully grown plant from something I never planted. This year I noticed two small baseball size somethings, what I thought was maybe a squash, growing about a month ago. This last week I went out and they are yellow and the size of a basketball.

I hear that birds and animals can carry seeds from the compost to another spot, or maybe just the wind. I have no idea. But life finds a away.

Democratic congressman Ro Khanna was detained by Israeli settlers on a visit to the West Bank.

He's building his cred with Dem voters. I personally prefer him over the neolibs.

Meanwhile Rahm Emanuel was in Israel making a speech which was critical of Israeli govt policy.

I wonder what would happen to anyone in Iran who publicly gave a speech criticizing Iranian govt policy?

Depends on the time and place.

From 1951 to 1953, Iran was led by a democratically elected prime minister who proposed a separation of church and state. The US and British govts staged a coup to force him out and installed a dictator who didn't interfere with colonial oil interests.

If the US had supported that secular democracy, it would probably have proven durable.

your ignorance is astounding. ffs just the other week the Supreme Leader criticized Iranian govt policy.

I thought it was obvious I was talking about Iran in July of 2026.

I was talking about a regular citizen speaking publicly against a government policy. I should have been more explicit what I was talking about.

It would probably go the same way as someone speaking against capitalism in the US.

If they got any traction whatsoever, they would be silenced, one way or another.

It's interesting how people are conditioned to express their contempt for alternative religious tribes such as that ruling in Iran.

The American religion is environmentally depleting and destructive consumption. We are the icons of fossil fueled imperialism. We have two major political parties held completely captive by money .... one which is led by Donald Trump and the other which can't produce something more appealing than Donald Trump. We celebrate people eating the maximum number of hot dogs in 30 minutes.

There are a lot more people around the world scared about the USA than Iran.

Amazin'! Could you please elaborate on 'they would be silenced one way or another?' Thanks.

Can you name a prominent anti-capitalist voice in the USA?

Is it not obvious that viewpoint has been silenced? Do you think a corporate media which is dependent upon advertising revenue for survival is going to allow the voices that attack their business model? Is it not obvious that our presidential debates are moderated by members of corporate media who have an oath to their corporate masters and that determines which questions are asked at those debates?

The USA is almost a completely Orwellian state.

If a politician like Bernie Sanders gets close, you have the DNC sanction an invasion of his campaign data or you take him off the campaign trail at the most critical stage of the election cycle. You have the corporate media instill fear of him.

The American public has been conditioned to react to socialism like attack dogs. They've been brainwashed to believe that socialism is evil.

Where are the debates on quality of life between the US and Scandinavia which has a higher degree of socialism (while still having quite a bit of capitalism).

We’re not going to do the socialism guys, get over it.

MLK Jr.

I'm talking about in 2026, not almost 60 years ago. And was it proven that MLK Jr. was assassinated by the U.S. government? (Wouldn't surprise me if he was btw)

Okay, I thought we were talking about being silenced via violence, like MLK Jr mentioned above.

I certainly agree there are many of ways at least to deny platforms to dissident voices.

In the 2016 primaries, Hillary got 56% of the popular vote to 44% for Sanders.

How did Mandami get elected in NYC then? In the biggest city in the country!!

Mandami ran a very good campaign and is generally sharp and engaging in a way Sanders is not imo. Not sure if it would matter nationally or even statewide, but he’s been impressive since he started his campaign and into his term.

Both are equally outstanding in the arena of local politics. Bernie is incredibly popular in Vermont. He was a very successful mayor of the city of Burlington.

The largest campaign rallies of the last decade are almost all Bernie with a smattering of Trump events thrown in. Calling him unengaging is just wrong.

Young people love Bernie. But the electoral muscle still resides with the Boomers. The big difference between Bernie and Mandami is timing. Bernie aged out ahead of the growing demand for his policies.

NY City is less than 500 square miles in a country of nearly 4 million square miles. That about 0.01% of the territory. That territory of NYC is a tightly woven social network in which a local politician can build the relationships.

Bernie did something similar in Burlington, Vt which was much smaller in population.

Mandami didn't have to contend with a popular black politician like Obama opposing him and pushing that important demographic away from him as Bernie did. The entire Democratic and media establishment opposed Bernie. Only a few outliers like Sen Jeff Merkley and Ro Khanna supported Bernie.

Idk if you knew this but land doesn’t vote

But mass media mind control works over wide territory like the USA in a way that doesn't work in NYC.

Take a road trip through the USA and listen to talk radio. It's a mono-culture.

In 1996, Bill Clinton signed the Telecommunications Act into law and that led to a few companies like Sinclair being able to dominate local print, radio and television media.

You want to control the population .... you control the information that they are exposed to.
