Covid killed the movies.

That combined with streaming new titles nowadays a few weeks after they open, if not right away. We used to have to wait months for VHS or DVD, and our impatience tended to put asses into theater seats. Now, impatience to clear profits quickly on the part of the bean counters is killing the theaters.

I watched the Minions movie and it was quite good. The joyful chaos those little guys create wherever they go is invigorating. Minions & Monsters is well-written, and the plot is tight, and yet the action ranges all over the damn place, which is great. The homages to the old action movies of the 20s and 30s involving Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin and the like were fun to watch—whether you picked up on them or not—and I'm sure I missed a few; they all worked within the story. I recommend it.

movie theaters are hotbeds for germs too. they rarely, if ever, get properly cleaned.

"You need to put more money in to play the game."
"Thank you."
"No. You need to put more money in the machine in order to play tha game."
"Thank you. I appreciate that."

Some AP slot titles can only be properly checked by putting money into them. A few of these automatically spin when you try to check a certain denomination and bet level, wasting your money on what is very likely a -EV spin.

Most of these trolly titles can still be checked without spinning through the method of inserting a ticket that has a money value of less than a single bet.

I always carry a ticket with 3 cents on it, for just those machines. The gentleman thought that I was an idiot, trying over and over again to play my 3 cents on various betting levels of the machine. Slots: 4.5 hours, +$100.

I didn't have as much luck at the poker table. 3.5 hours, -$110. I was going to write a treatise on ace-little suited, but I've written enough today. I'll pick that up another time.

Truth.

I get thousands of touches a day, five days a week, on slot machines, cards and chips. I was never a hand washer before, but I am now. I wash my hands before I pee, so I don't get my nice clean junk dirty. My friend Gambelina gave me that idea.

Also, I sit in a lot of seats, so I worry about bedbugs and lice; it's an occupational hazard. A lot of APs stay standing while checking, but I sit down for the longer checks. I'm an old man; I took the senior discount for the Minions & Monsters movie.

Last night on arrival I found myself scooped on my favorite slots again. From the evidence, I believe that it's a new person, and I have an idea of what time they arrive, so next week I'm going to make some adjustments and shift some hours to the daytime. If, like me, you're playing slots full time at one casino, then denying equity to other APs becomes as important as merely finding and picking up equity.

Slots: 3.5 hours, ($-37.00)

This month the poker room is running hourly high hand payouts ranging from $300 to $10000, so it's not the worst time to shift over to daytime promo hunting for now. I have paid a shitton of promo rake in the last year and I've seen very little of it come back to me. I'm not saying that I'm due, because variance allows that I may never get that money back in my lifetime—or even come close—but I would of course welcome a nice promo hit, and I would unabashedly include it in my poker earnings tally, even if it was a big 'un.

Poker: 4.5 hours, ($-85.00)

Losing and breakeven weeks happen. On to the next.

Week 12

MGM Springfield $1/$2 poker: 18 hours
+$58.00
MGM Springfield Slots: 15 hours
+$7.00

Running Poker Total: 208.5 hours, +$2941.00
Running Slot Total: 208.5 hours, +$9076.00

Total 12 Weeks: 417 hours, +$12017.00

Sorry about getting scooped one of the worst things in slots. I’m currently dealing with that with someone playing the overlooked machines I like. Through the standard detective work it looks like someone new with a smaller bankroll because they have left multiple $18+ egypt plays for me the last week, hopefully they just go bust on a play before NFL starts up.

RE: AP slots drying up. I am usually pretty pessimistic since the last 3 big machine purges it was like every “good” (low volatility, short/mid cycle, solid win rate) was targeted. This recent wave of machines isn’t great but it’s good to see beatable machines keep getting released and getting so much ploppy play. Some of these AP games that aren’t Buffalo/aristocrat are so popular it blows my mind and I think any casino that goes 100% non-AP will immediately have significant gross revenue loss and will dissuade other casinos from doing the same thing.

Thanks Lionelhuttz! GL to you. Outwork, outthink, outplay the competition. I went in today on what was supposed to be a day off in order to scoop the scooper, and I picked up $128 over 4 hours between poker and slots. I will add those totals to my thus-far unreported orphan week, made up of dribs and drabs of sessions done between working for my cousin and my old office, along with a little overtime here and there. If I do 4 more hours next Tuesday, It will make for a full week to add to the tally.

Today I almost misclicked an empty $1 10-handed Ultimate X screen for $100. The only thing that stopped the machine after I fat-fingered the max bet button was that I only had $98 on my slot ticket at the time, so it couldn't make the bet. Oh, but it wanted to. It made a noise like, here goes your bet now. I thought that it would have done me 9 hands for $10 each, but thankfully it didn't.

The gentleman thought that I was an idiot, trying over and over again to play my 3 cents on various betting levels of the machine.

this is the part i hated most about it, most people think you're an idiot/gambling degenerate

most aps look no different than the degenerate crackhead who methodically rubs the nose of the wolf on the screen after every spin for good luck

those degens are so common that the screens now have animations and have those animals react and move when you touch them

also, in most +ev gambling ventures, a single other profitable player can ruin it for you

most poker tables are significantly less profitable if pro sits down, sometimes to the point of making it too hard to play

likewise, in dfs, there was a long trend of pros slowly dropping out to pursue other things, so you play in a daily 10 man $530 contest which has 8-10 pros in it each day, now it's getting 7-9 a day instead, the remaining pros now expect to make about 10% more in ev each contest - it was amazing

but within a week or two, someone new would show up, someone who previously didn't play higher than the $109 but now shot takes as they see the easier fields of the $530 and win rates go back to prior levels

was a regular whack a mole situation and it's what led me to focusing on the more niche sports of hockey and soccer in dfs, because when a pro dropped out from there, they often didn't get replaced, or if they did, it was someone with much less talent than the guy they replaced

nothing worse than showing up to a casino and seeing aps everywhere

quite a few times i had like $300 of freeplay that would expire at midnight and there wasn't a single play available so i'd just choose a machine that was kinda close and play it out, hoping for some good variance, or if even that wasn't available, i'd just yolo into one of those really dumb high denom ones and do like 3 spins at $100 - never hit yahtzee :(

I've thought about what I would do if I ever won a few hundo or more in freeplay from MGM, as those prizes typically carry a one week expiration date.

I would likely switch to full time AP slots for up to the next 7 days: 10 hours a day total with 8 hours of slots and 2 hours of poker in the middle to allow the slot floor to recharge. Currently there's a total of around $300-$400 in breakeven Ultimate X Bonus Streak plays scattereed across all the machines; however, once I snapped those up, the next day wouldn't bring more than $50 in total breakeven plays on the same machines—they've been building up for a long time, with no one bothering to play them.

MGM is also about to install a high limit Major Multipliers video poker machine. The game won't be beatable, but it looks like fun: you can get up to 100x muiltipliers on specific hand values like trips or full houses.

And let's say you get a boat, but trips would pay more due to the multipliers; they give you the trips.

Last night I took a bad beat and ragequit again. I thought I had that leak plugged, but I have not. The plan is to get up and go for a walk, and check some slots, and not to grab for my remaining chips, if any. I slammed my cards down—face down—and left without a word. 2.5 hours, $-367.00.

On the slots: I arrived early, checked my favorites, then kept an eye out for the scooper, who never showed up. It's possible that the scooper is a weekend warrior who made runs throughout the long July 4th holiday. More insidious is the possibility that they are a Syndicate player who knew my old schedule—they know I play poker as well, and I saw one of them clocking me while I was sitting at the table yesterday—and recognized that I've shifted shifts, and didn't bother checking the slots. In that case, I'm well and truly f*cked. I have the power to arrive at any time during the day; they have the power to arrive at any time multiple times during the day. I'll probably find that out today if I show up and find myself scooped.

Slots: 3.5 hours, +$67.00

JFC this game is fun when it's good and monkey tilt inducing at times. Bricking off when trips has a 100x multiplier or dealt two pair but bricking FH draw when full house is 80x multiplier is soulcrushing.

If you’re going to play that game, might as well chase something questionable on ultimate x gold instead, if you have it.

That does sound like fun. I'll try it if I ever have freeplay that I need to burn, but probably only in that spot.

No Ultimate X Gold here. Mohegan has a few machines. Apparently there's a strat for that, but it's too complicated for me to learn given that I'm only down there a few times a year.

I fell off my exercise routine in the beginning of June, and it's always been hard for me to get back on it. Today I found a compromise with myself and I started back with half the usual number of reps. I will add one rep on each subsequent exercise day until I'm back up to the usual.

i think you've been duped!
