Day 38
Thursday July 2nd

I must be entering the final stretch now as I’m changing hotels for the last time. We’re back at the Horseshoe for the remainder of the trip and have a King bed this time.

Still had time to have a swim before the tournament.

Today’s tournament is $1,500 PLO Double Board Bomb Pot. For anyone not familiar with this game it works as follows:

Everyone antes (There are no blinds)
The dealer then deals everyone 4 cards and puts out two flops.
Then there is a betting round.
Followed by two turn cards.
Another betting round.
Followed by two river cards
And a final betting round.
Half the pot is awarded for each board.

As in all split pot games you should be trying to scoop by having something on both boards.

We start well increasing the 25k starting stack to 40k on first break.

In the 2nd session I’m not connecting with any flops except one where I flop a full house on both in a 3-way pot. My spidey senses were tingling however and I did well to find a fold on the end to only lose half my stack against quads and a bigger full house.

30k on 2nd break.

We scoop one to knock Matt Glantz out. He bet 3/4 pot on flop, we call. He goes all-in for his last 10k on turn. We call and are scooping and nothing changes on river.

68k on 3rd break and the end of late reg.

I find a double on this hand all-in on the flop.

I had a set of 3’s on top and a flush draw on bottom. Villain had a set of Aces on bottom and nothing on top so I’m free-rolling him. We hit the flush on bottom on the river to scoop. Don’t leave home without something on both boards peeps!

The very next hand I make a big lay-down on the flop.

I have AAxx here on the flop and fold to a bet and a call. Death is out to get us but we laugh and say not today. It’s tempting, we have the nuts on one board but with nothing on the other board and no backup on our board these are the trap spots in this game.

Good fold?

You bet your ass it was a good fold. Villain would have scooped us:

Death comes looking for us again and this time I can’t find a fold on the flop. I get it in with top pair and nut flush draw on top and flush draw and gutshot on bottom.

Villain flopped top two on both and holds. At least we were the covering stack and are not eliminated.

70k on the last break of the night with about 50 to go before the money.

We go all-in and pick up the antes.

Death is knocking at our door once more. We fold nut straight on one board in a 3-way pot with no re-draw and nothing on the other board. Again we would have been scooped if we continued.

5k antes now in the last level of the night. 6 to go before the money. It won’t be long with these antes. Just picking up the antes is significant.

It didn’t take long. There is no need for hand for hand with multiple bust-outs we’re in the money.

Cha-Ching!

Bags on table 136

Bagged 123k

Tournament situation at the end of the day. We come back to a 6k ante.

My table draw for tomorrow. I don’t know any of them.

It’s been a while since we bagged. Feels good and proud of the way I played today. Dodged a few spots where we could easily have gone broke and we’re still in there fighting.

Re-start at 1pm.

That mix seems nuts. Keep up the faith!

That 150/300 sounds like a lot of fun. Anybody want to stake a loser (me)?

Man, let’s add Archie & Three Card Stud Hi-Lo Regular and play 15-30…or maybe 8-16!
🤠

Really great recap of the PLODBBP. In the old days you could’ve expanded it to 20 pages or so and sold it at the Gamblers Book Store! Or maybe Mason would be interested….

I made a terrible $300 one way mistake in the ultra nitty $3 Venetian game. So bad that nobody said anything or even looked at me for a while. Haven’t been that embarrassed in a game in a very very long time.

Did play in the $600 2-7 Mix at Orleans the next day, which I hadn’t intended to, still a little tilted, and made some more boneheaders, mainly losing track of what game was being played—I wasn’t the only one.

Started at noon. Somehow survived to the dinner break on one bullet. Was fully composure regained by 8pm. Knocked out 3rd at 3am for $5750. PL 2-7 Double Draw is getting added to the 8-16 Mix, definitely the game of future.

Get some sleep and then GO GET ‘EM!!! this afternoon.

(Sorry for hogging/hijacking/derailing the thread these last few hours. God, I wish I was still down there.)

Nice job on bagging, and good pointers about Double Board PLO - I tend to get a bit too excited if I have the current nuts on one board.

Not super relevant, but the 'Swede' Alexander Stevic on your table tomorrow is a really old-school poker player. He is famous for winning the very first European Poker Tour Main Event for €80,000 EUR back in 2004.

Good luck today!!

Nicely done!

Best of luck in the restart.

Since WC bets were being discussed a little while back, I have a question. Watching TV last night, they were showing match odds on the bottom of the screen. Country A -X, Country B +Y, Draw +Z.

I thought there couldn't be draws in the knockout stage. Not sure what those odds represent, a tie in regulation wins that bet?

Draw is for the regulation time.

There is also an option called To Qualify. Sometimes you are not quite sure a team can pull off in regular time this would be a good low risk alternative.

First and foremost congrats on the bag!
Props to knocking out Matt Glantz.

Very nice. It's time to give real meaning to the name of this thread.

GL. Just pulled up the leaderboard and saw that I know the chip leader from St. Louis.

Nice update to read this morning. GL today!

Thanks. Every bit of info helps.

Let’s go! Good luck!

I promise I won’t post spoilers while following along this time!

This is interesting. I've never played a PLO bomb pot but it sounds like death could be lurking every hand.

Congrats on the bag!

Nice bag. Hopefully the Gods are with you tomorrow. All of LVL is

Day 39
Friday July 3rd

I’ll cut right to it. Day two of the PLO DBBP and we find ourselves in a 3-way all-in early.

We only have the top board but have blockers and a re-draw.

Top flop: T-K-9 with K-9 of spades
Bottom flop: 4-3-2 rainbow with one spade

We have KQQJ with Q-J of spades
Villain 1 has 248T with two spades
Villain 2 has A5K9 with two spades

We have the nuts on top and a queen blocker so was pretty sure we’re the only one who had that board. We also have a King blocker and a queen flush draw or two spades blockers if someone has the nut flush draw.

Villain 2 has hopes and dreams. Not sure why he put his last 75k in here. He has two pair on bottom and one pair on top with a ten high flush draw.

Villain 3 has the real hand. He has a straight on bottom and two pair with the nut flush draw on top.

As it stands we’re getting half the pot which would be a not insignificant 60k pick-up including the antes.

Turns:

The ten pairs up top giving villain 2 trips but we’re still good for half the pot at the moment.

Rivers:

Despite there being 9 spades out, one of the 4 remaining spades arrives on the top board and we get nothing. It’s actually the 8 of spades giving villain 2 a full house and rewarding his bad play so he chops the main pot with villain 3 and villain 3 scoops me in the side pot.

I did have 18k left which allowed me to see 3 more hands. As I didn’t flop any pairs on the first 2 hands I was all-in for the ante in the 3rd hand. I made one pair and two pair but neither was good. GG. Min-cash for $3,027

If you had to bust early, hopefully you got to watch Argentina vs Cabo Verde. An all-time classic.

Lol MEb!

Unfortunate run out Tony!

That's why many call it Omahahaha.

Day 40
Saturday July 4th

Day 40, wow. In a funny sort of way the trip feels both long and short which probably doesn’t make sense but anyway, we’re still here.

Today is a cash game day. The main event is well underway at the Horseshoe but we’re not bothered about that. We head over to Bellagio around 11am and have to wait about an hour for a seat.

There’s a familiar face on my right. Guy the Israeli is back in town. I think I wrote about him once on a past trip. I never saw him lose. But we’re not scared. He raises pre in 5-card PLO double board and we just flat.
Don’t remember the exact boards but one of them was A-K-4.
He pots, we cap it and he calls.
I hope you don’t have Aces he says.
We do indeed have Aces and scoop his Kings to win the capped pot and get the session off to a nice start.

Pro tip - The rigatoni bolognese from Sadelle’s at Bellagio uses the same recipe as Carbone so it’s pretty much the same dish for about half the price and is really good. It’s also a huge portion and we’re buried and can’t finish all of it for lunch.

The session continues to go well and we’re working on the great pyramid today with a 21 stack bottom tier.

I don’t get to finish it as I start losing a few hands and get the feeling the session is starting to turn so decide to rack up and take the night off. It’s still been a very profitable 5 hours. In for $6,000, out for $11,600.

Today is the 4th July but these are the only flags we’re interested in.

I color up 5 racks and take the rest in cash.

I didn’t go down to the pool this morning so get my exercise in by walking to Tuscany to bet England pk for tomorrow and Belgium pk on Monday at the Circa sportsbook there.

After which I chill in the room for a little bit before venturing out to a packed strip to watch the fireworks.

I then meet up with GolfPro at Aria who’d just come back from battling all day in a tournament at the Orleans only to fall a few sports short of the money. I know how it feels. He has something to eat but I’m still stuffed from lunch so just have a corona.

On deck tomorrow: plan is to play cash and then maybe max late reg the $600 Ultra Stack.

You sound like MEb!

Hold your horses till I complete my trip report!

All good! I know you will all say show us a picture otherwise it didn’t happen!

Planned to meet Bracelet Hunter and watch fireworks. But I kept running late as I was trying to bag Orleans ME. In the end it wasn’t meant to be. The short version for your eyes only.

UTG I Open shove 9’s. My stack 84K at 5/5/10K. Big Stacks ISO’s. This trip I was more positive about my holdings and manifested cards I would need to win instead of worrying about cards I don’t want to see.

Hero: 9’s V: A’s and we see this:

F: Q92 T:Q R:Q

I immediately uber to Aria but couldn’t meet Bracelet Hunter even though we ended up at the same location. We watched fireworks at Aria from two different view points.

After fireworks I desperately needed a cup of coffee and my navigational skills were shot in the sea of tourists at Aria. So we met here first (Thanks to Bracelet Hunter for finding me instead!)

We ventured to see where we can grab some food and a drink at Aria and ended up at the food court!

Sorry for the temporary high jack of your trip report Bracelet Hunter!

I did follow Bracelet Hunter’s soccer predictions and went with the same picks for 10% of his bet amount!
