"The Pen:" Live NLHE Chat Thread
It's been about 9.5 years and 350K posts of epicness, but "It Lives, It Lives" can live no more. The OG LLSNL Chat Thre
Sr Walking was convinced the winning play is to charge into the fire and get out the other side before death from 'smoke inhalation.'
I'm glad you're there to help keep him safe.
Wildland forest fires are terrifying. Granite Mountain firefighters were a tragic example, and 3 more Utah/Colorado firefighters lost their lives to one the other day, in the Four Corners area. The heat has to be like something just this side of a blast furnace: a vertical sheet of flame "normally" at 800 °C, but often hitting 1,000 to over 1,200. See, https://www.usgs.gov/media/images/how-ho...
The measures many of you are taking sound prudent. Praying that all of that mess misses you guys.
Congrats on your last Friday working. It will feel weird for a week or two, then you'll be thinking, "How on earth did I get anything done when I was working Fridays."
Yeah, actually already experiencing that feeling 1.5 years into my much shorter 25 hour work weeks.

I moved house for the third time in 16
months yesterday. Fortunately/hopefully this will be the last time for a while as I’ve bought a new place.
As a grown ass adult, I've basically only lived in two places. Moved into my condo in 1997, where it only took a few car rides to transfer my meagre worldly possessions at the time. Moved into my house in 2010 where a single smallish U-Haul got all my stuff (hard to accumulate too much stuff when living in a condo). I'm guessing there will be a downsize move eventually (15 years, maybe?), and that will be the difficult one.
I'm guessing G has the forum record for most residences as a grown ass adult?

There is a massive fire in beaver utah about 200 miles to the south of us. The fire danger is double plus ungood right now and the fire its going ballistic. Here in PC the sky was completely smoked out yesterday and the sun was a crazy magenta color; to complete the end of days scenario it was raining ashes.
Fires definitely seem to be getting worse every year, seems to be just a part of summer schedule planning now whereas I don't even recall thinking about it in yesteryears.

I'm guessing yes. When do you count as a grown ass adult? If it's when you move away from your parents' home, I'm at 23 full moves, plus a few short term rentals while waiting for housing to open up at a new base. So sick of it...
15 for me. Albeit they've got progressively more challenging as I've collected more stuff
hopefully this is the last for a while. only way I can see it changing is if I move in with the newish missus but she is going to buy something herself, so I suspect we will co-exist for a few years at least if we're still together

So much this.
How to lose 200bb in four hours:
step 1) stop thinking about your range or position preflop.
step 2) click buttons postflop, especially double barreling where villain is nutted.

If you don’t lose 200bb every now and again you’re not trying hard enough

I feel you..
My dad was in the Air Force and I became a college football coach. I barely lived where all my relatives are, so don’t really feel like I’ve got a hometown. I do think living so many places has been valuable in broadening my perspectives.
Leaving my part-time job at UNC for Virginia after just getting married, I decided to move myself. About 30 miles from my destination looked back and the trailer was on fire. Lost it all.
Or being down in South Georgia for seven years and coming in one spring day to find out the university decided to drop football…
Having a 3month old daughter and about 2 months to find another job and sell a house. Yeah, that’ll change your perspective.
Landed in Greensboro that time. Everything usually works out, but I don’t envy anyone moving.
Yuck! I'm Air Force myself, so even though I move constantly, at least I've had job security. Mixing moving with the anxiety of having to find a job sounds even worse.
I’ve gone the longest in recent memory without having any itch to play. The last 3 times I played I had zero enjoyment. I’m sure I’ll wake up one day and want to play again, but it doesn’t feel like it’s coming anytime soon.

I would say post secondary education (as those university days could easily involve lots of different residences).
For me overall:
1 rental house up until about ~1 year old
1 family house that I lived in pre / summers / post university
7 different room & boards / basement suite / relatives during university
1 condo as younger grown ass adult
1 house as older grown ass adult

Lol, I did that last session out, booking my largest loss in 20 months (183bb, lol @ me?). After getting brutalized all session with AA/KK/AK, and then slowly getting some of it back, I found myself in a dream spot to actually somehow book a win, all-in preflop 3ways with AA... where AA < JJ < 98o (I play in a very tough game, ldo).
Since my recent sunrun record 20 session winstreak, over my last 18 sessions / 88 hours I'm actually stuck 344bbs (not quite a downswing for me, which I haven't had since 2017, but I've been moving towards one a couple of times during this recent stretch).

You probably don't remember, but we have very similar WR in 1/3 2/3 games. I'm back in the streets after a hiatus. Closing in on first 100 hours.
This -200bb session was little run bad, mostly a lot of auto-pilot C-game level stuff from me.

That's great in theory, but I didn't finish my undergrad until I'd already been in the Air Force for over 8 years and had been out of high school for well over a decade Heck, I think I'd been married for over a decade. If we don't count "while a full-time undergrad student," you can take out the first three of my total, which were during my run at being a traditional student.
Post secondary?
Apt, apt, shared house, apt, bought house. Moved to Denver, rented house for one year, then bought the one I'm planning to die owning. Been here 26 years in March.

Tugged at my heart bro
I have a lot of interests and never mind laying off poker some and usually only play about once a week anyway, but I always enjoy it when I get the chance.
What is no fun? Did you burn yourself out, because I have no experience with playing too much? The luck factor?
Do you need somebody to give you the worm speech from Rounders? I don’t understand
I had some fun last time I played 1/3 NLHE at the casino, but I drank like 9 vodka sodas which helped. First time playing that format in many years.
I also run a monthly shenanigans game with the old guys in my town which is fun but just for shits and giggles
$0.25-$0.50 spread limit, capped at 4 raises per street, played with actual US quarters rather than chips
Format is any game dealers choice, with any rules you can describe, as long as it ends up in showdown of a best 5-card poker hand.
So, for example, one orbit would be
Omaha 8, no wild cards
5 card Omaha Hi, all 6's wild
Holdem, deuces wild, two boards
Holdem, crazy 8's
Holdem, third card on flop is dealt face down, after river that card is exposed, which is wild and in play, and also wild if in your hand, another round of betting
Crazy pineapple, one eyed jacks wild
Holdem, no wild

Jack, try Lowmaha.
O/8, but the board stops when there's a possible low (or keeps going, if necessary).
For extra pain, we used to play it with a 7 qualifier.
So keep going past 5 board cards until there’s a qualifying low? I like it
Right. Or, if the flop is 7-4-2, round of betting and we're done. As soon as there's a low possible, whenever that is.
No stats, but I'd guess the plurality of the boards a 5 cards, next 6. One time we had a 14-card board cuz all high cards/pairing.
