The "LOLCANADA" thread...again
So what's new?
I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet
I don't care what the MLB does? I get it, some of you obsess over american culture war BS and every utterance and word choice is fed through the lens of which side you are on the latest culture war debate. I put a pride flag on my office door because I have thousands of students and I want them to feel welcomed and comfortable coming to talk to me about math, and about the vari
If you have a pride flag on your door so students feel more comfortable you are absolutely obsessing over 'Pride' (sic) far more than anyone else in this thread.
Teach is just lying, as per usual. I guarantee you 1 thing, unless he lives in the middle of bum**** nowhere, it's impossible to ''forget'' it's pride month in any Canadian city.I was in Provincetown Massachusetts either 2024 or 2023, we went there the day they had a gay parade, had no idea it was going on. They had this giant march down Commercial street with people dressed up
Almost for sure lying. Outside chance Uke is just utterly oblivious to her surroundings.
Also not sure about the rules of Canadian professor student personal relationship. But this seems really personal and if something was claimed to have happened by your student. They could argue they thought you were ljbtq signaling. Seems a little beyond a student teacher relationship. People have been acused for grooming for less. According to Google your supposed to report a personal relationship like this not just sexual if I read it correctly

They told me their name. What on earth personal relationship are you talking about?
Lmao. It's pretty amazing that in 2026 and there are people on the internet who think if a student chooses to share their real name with a teacher that this is a like inappropriate personal relationship that needs to be disclosed.
Sounds like a few of you should go to the pride parade!
It has nothing to do with a real name ill be honest I have no idea what that means sounds like pc cringe if you change your legal name that's cool don't think we need a parade. Its the part where you describe them sharing something with you they wouldn't share with their friends and co workers that made my skin crawl and made me question if the rainbow sticker on your door got you in some unnecessary territory. Maybe its less of a big deal because their of age but in high-school this is how people lose jobs

Skin crawl? This is a bizarre response. Basic human empathy is a good thing. As an educator, having a student feel comfortable enough with me to come out and reveal they are trans (especially since I know they didn't come out to most people) is very touching. I worked very hard to build up a positive rapport with this student - that is my job - as I supported them through unrelated academic challenges, and I think their vulnerability in this moment shouldn't send your skin crawling in the least.
This particular student happened to be trans, but students are vulnerable and break down in tears etc all the time in my office. It's human. They are going through all kinds of life struggles. Mostly we focus on academic struggles like if they are having panic attacks during math exams or whatever. But also when you teach hundreds and hundreds of students a semester like me, there are students in basically every permutation of life crisis and they end up in my office. I listen. Sometimes I can say something that helps, even if it is just referring them to say mental health services on campus or whatever. This is me being a good teacher and having basic human empathy.

It is true that in Alberta, quite regrettably, there is mandatory reporting to parents if a student is brave enough to come out to a teacher. I suspect the primary consequence of this is trans students in unsupportive households will be too scared to come out to their teachers.
One of the fun things about being a university level professor is if a parent tries to speak to me I can tell them to **** off and legally can not share a single thing about their adult children with them.

That is because they are adults not children in a majority of cases at the University level. I am sure the odd one is 17
Thank you for lozen-splaining that basic fact to me.
Well I was looking up to see if this qualified as something personal enough where you need to report it to your hr but I didn't get that far. Because you apparently already broke a bigger issue by breaking teacher student confidentiality by talking about their private matter publicly on the internet. All to brag about how pc you are for having a rainbow flag on your door.
You didn't say the name so I'm sure its legaly fine but meh was it worth it
LMAO you really are quite something aren't you. No, buddy, a trans student coming out to a teacher is not some hr reportable offense LMAO. And no sharing anonymously with no details on an anonymous forum a story of a trans student coming out to a teacher is not breaking teacher student confidentiality.Although people like you do make me glad to have tenure. Not that I would eve
All very well said!
Like I said its more that it looks bad to use a students private info to make your self seem more liberal. Then it being a legal problem. But the fact your one accidental leak away for someone to be able to identify that person like accidently slipping in their job and don't seem to care is why we found your post super cringe. Very justin esq

LOL. As if I could give two shits whether you think I am liberal or not. The reason I shared this story is because several of you were questioning why I would put a pride flag on my office door. So I explained that the reason why I do that is so that my students feel comfortable and welcomed and included in my office. The anecdote was a lovely moment where a student was able to be vulnerable and share with me and perhaps - I don't know - the pride flag helped them realize this was a safe space for them to come out to me in as opposed to, say, someone who spent their time attacking trans people on internet forums. That you think there is anything remotely inappropriate about either my conversation with them or sharing completely anonymous bland details with you is ineptly hilarious.

You're making a volcano out of a BBQ pit, bro.
Getting under Ukes skin is a part time job
I do not care if you say ridiculous things because you are deliberately saying ridiculous things to try and "get under my skin" or because you genuinely believe them. I presume most of the ridiculous things you say are in the former camp - just lol at your "human labour camps" faux-serious bit. I'm simply going to point out why they are ridiculous.

Well. That's creepy as ****, Professor. Both as to the unprofessional attitude and the way in which you choose to phrase it.
lol pray tell what on earth has gotten you all twisted up about that?
Literally I can't not even legally confirm a student is in my class to a parent. Don't worry I'm not rude in person, but generally helicopter parents of university kids who try to take over their entire academic interactions with professors are extremely annoying and harming their children. A select few do need this support and with some signed proxy forms there are ways around it, but generally if you are a parent do not email your chatgpt essay to your kids professor about how they need extra marks kthxbye.
ya buddy I'm not going to kick a student out who just came out to me and tell them they need to go counselling. FFS. It is not hard to have just an iota of empathy in the moment. As I mentioned earlier, I let students know about various supports on campus including counselling pretty regularly and that is part of supporting them, but you gotta pick your moments a little better than that bud.
