Yes, this is a big mistake IMO.
In general 2NL players will call off your raises, 3-bets and even 4-bets wide just to see a flop, but you have to be cautious when they take initiative and do the betting.
When you have AQ and are being 4-bet, you fold. At 2NL, even though they call off wide, most people never 3-bet (3-bet percentages often 0% to 3%), they only 3-bet monsters like AKs and JJ+, and you never see 3-bet bluffs, they don't know it exists.
4-bet is literally always just QQ+. With AQ you are blocking some AK, AA, QQ, so most often you would run into a KK like here.
