USA Goes to War Against Iran
Time for a dedicated thread to the war.
How long will it last and what will be the probable outcome?
you can disagree on blaming netanyahu for the obvious consequences of what he did.
He has led israel down a path that is both monstrous and stupid.
You say “monstrous” I say “brutal”. There is nothing stupid about what Bibi is doing. Hamas attacked, Israel responded. Hezbollah attacked, Israel responded. Your opinion is based off group think which comes from a lack of context. Even before the creation of the state of Israel Arabs were attacking the Jews in this land. The Jews responded in a brutal manner. Had they not responded this way they would have been dead. When your enemy tells you they want to wipe you off the map and then act on it what should you do?
I agree that Israel has lost favor with a lot of the world, that much is undeniable. However, I think sentiment towards Israel in the west was already turning when the Gaza war brought the issue to the forefront. I think Israel has realized that currying for favor with western leftists is mostly a dead end.
It's a dead end if they wish to behave the way they are with no regard to international law or norms. At least I hope so.
It's a really dangerous path.

There's no shortage of context thanks. Or group think.
I agree there's nothing stupid about what netanyahu is doing. It's about his survival and he is been very good at. It's so dangerous when leaders need war and chaos tor their personal survival.
what should you do? defense and good politics - it's tough hard work with no certainty but there is nothing else. So much easier when your staunch allies are the most powerful in the world.

It’s extremely naive to think what Bibi is doing is all about his political/legal survival. Even most liberals are in favor of a more robust war effort against Israel’s enemies. It hasn’t always been this way but the liberals have finally realized the error of their passive ways. Let me remind you that Israel is surrounded by people who want to push them into the sea. This war may be benefitting Bibi in a personal way but it’s also necessary to the states survival. Unfortunately, folks like you are tacitly helping the bad guy’s. They see the disapproval of Israel. They know they can play the long game.
It boggles my mind that civilized nations can’t see the evil of this Iranian regime. Does it seem right that Iran has taken over Lebanon to host its terror proxie? How about Gaza? They’ve taken over the Straight. They’ve killed their own people. When is enough enough? The US and Israel are at least trying to do something about it. The US part is a complete joke. They basically moved the ball to the Iranian 20 yard line then punted.
You say “defense and good politics”? Israel should just sit back and play defense? What politics do you speak of? The only language the people in this region know is war. There is no negotiating with them.

I think Israel determined that strictly playing defense is a losing strategy in the long term. Akin to a lobster slowly being boiled in a pot.
They were getting boxed in by Iran’s proxy terrorists organizations.

its difficult but netanyahu has gambled israels future on it being much worse without all the advantages currently enjoyed.

Do you remember when Hezbollah had 150k missiles that could reach all parts of Israel?
Iran has been severely neutered. Not one missile hit its target in their last barrage.
Israel has gained the respect of several gulf nations. There are massive business deals in the works.
Israel is emerging as a super power.
I think they are enjoying a lot of success.

They’ve lost favor with more than just leftists. It’s hard to ignore the opinion polls that show their favorability dropping with both democrats and republicans, not just extreme leftists online.

Of course they are having a lot of success. They had major advantages. Spending that was easy.
Are you all ready for Trump to delay resuming kinetic activity because they are very close to a deal?

I could be wrong, but I think there is a very real possibility that we won't see a deal by Friday.
If liberation of Palestine was in the cards, Hamas would eagerly try to be first in line to fight it tooth and nail.

The drop in Israel support has been quite spectacular. Of course, going full apartheid and ethnic cleansing with blood and soil nationalists in charge is not really a good look. Especially in a time and age where it is no longer as easy for such people to pretend they are competent.
Why wouldn't he?
- Obama presided over utter disasters (first Ukraine invasion with ZERO response when it could have been easily dissauded, arming ISIS and creating that little monster, emboldening and funding Iran)
- Biden presided over letting the second Ukraine invasion happen with horiffic weakness ("US troops will never be in Ukraine" - way to give Putin a green light while he's building up you moron), and the emboldening of Iran again which caused the whole start of the Gaza war via their unrestricted proxy funding (Trump cowed them his first term by killing their loved general).
Even on foreign policy alone, Trump is miles ahead of his predecessors - even if Iran is a giant mistake.
The real question is, why wouldn't you vote for Trump on foreign policy given that he's objectively better than the last two presidents before him, even given Iran?

What's your previous screen name? Let's start there.

astounding ignorance.

you literally just fully dismissed and criticized the only people actually fighting against the "full apartheid and ethnic cleansing with blood and soil nationalists". incredible attention span.

Well, it is working well in places like Turkey, China, Pakistan and India.
This is where most of the criticisms of Israel just seem disingenuous to me. Is there is always plenty of examples of actors just as bad, if not worse, that are given a free pass for their actions, if not lauded.
I'm absolutely no fan of the people in charge of Iran. Not one bit.
However, what is their motivation? They had an agreement with the US. Then trump tore it up and started bombing them. Why would they ever trust him?

At some point they may not have a choice If Trump follows through with his threat about Kharg Island etc. The problem is Iran probably doesn’t believe Trump will take those actions. I don’t think Trump will take those actions. If a deal is made it will be a bad one for the US and simply a temporary set back for the Iranians. Trump is obviously looking for an off ramp and the Iranians know it. If this war lingers into the midterms the Republicans are screwed.
Why did you create the Elway account?
