USA Goes to War Against Iran
Time for a dedicated thread to the war.
How long will it last and what will be the probable outcome?
He seemingly wants to joke about this fact while simultaneously ignoring the topic altogether.
Which is it, [strike]Elway[/strike] mongidig? Are you comfortable enough with this foible to make light of yourself, or are you embarrassed of the implications and hiding your head in the sand?
Israel is in a horrible situation. They are fully dependent on the US. Trump is holding them back from doing what they need to do. It’s amazing that everybody is all up in arms about what Israel does yet nobody is concerned about the evil Iran regime and its terror proxies. I haven’t heard anybody mention the occupation of Lebanon by Hezbollah. There has been zero concern by vi
What does going all in and wiping out Iran look like exactly?
Trump has now completely botched the pandemic and now this war. He is gonna be forced into a horrible deal because he’s too big of a pussy to finish Iran off. He has completely screwed Israel.
The US. even before trump weakened it, wpukd have had a very tough time “finishing off” Iran. Post Trump it’s not even possible to try.
good politics has always been and will always be there only hope.
Dug a huge hole now.
Netanyahu has put israel at genuine existential risk. Obvious from the beginning and it's kinda sad how so many have somehow backed him in his desperate attempts to save his own sorry arse whatever the cost to israel and everyone else.

I 100% disagree with this. Most Israelis support the armed conflict with Iran. I think the number is around 93%. Many , however, think Israel and the US have done a poor job of executing the war. The existential threat has existed for over 45 years with Iran. Trump continues to put Israel into a bad spot. I don’t know what extra risk you are speaking of regarding Bibi. Iran and its proxies have been severely neutered in the last couple years. Israelis would love for Trump to let them off the leash to finish the job. He won’t and he will probably sign a terrible deal.
I’m not a military expert so I don’t know what that would entail. It’s obvious that there is no negotiating with these people. Either Trump should have stayed out of this or be committed to do what it takes to end this regime and its proxies militarily. Clearly he is not committed to doing this. It’s kind of like cold calling in poker. He should have either raised or folded. I have a feeling Trump would suck at poker.

and once the usa has ****ed off, iran is rebuilding and netanyahu has burned so many bridges while making so many bitter enemies?.
You really don't think that caries an existential risk?
What’s with these “proportionate” responses by the US military to Iranian attacks? It should be a massive response. This war is a joke.
Yes but that’s not Bibi’s doing. That’s Iranian propaganda infiltrating the weak minded. Israel is getting crushed in the social media war. It blows my mind that Hezbollah has literally hijacked Lebanon but nobody seems outraged about that. Hamas literally tried to genocide Israel and it’s Israel who is bad. Iran has killed thousands of its own people and shut down the Straight of Hormuz but Israel is the bad one.

you can disagree on blaming netanyahu for the obvious consequences of what he did.
He has led israel down a path that is both monstrous and stupid.
Iran has been doing that to their people for decades. Their latest is nothing new and neither this one or the last 100 alone should read us into a war.
Its just getting harder to pull these things off with how the internet works, if if you flip off the swtich beforehand.
You don't think Iran funding and planning a mass slaughter of thousands in a free Western democracy (that led to Gaza war and suffering among other things) has changed the situation? That their recent crackdown killing thousands isn't a change for the worse?
I don't know why Israel wanted to attack Iran. Or why the US sent B2s in the first round. Bibi is either insane (very possible) or something real was going on that needed to be dealt with. I don't know what's true. Do you? Things have certainly been shaken up recently with the Ayatollah getting old/near death and hardliners gaining more control. It's not like it's been status quo, nothing changed and boom.
So genocide of women, children, babies is fine as long as the group doing it were oppressed by your definition of oppressed?
That is literal Nazi propaganda - that the Jews were oppressing the German people with their actions, control of international organizations, etc. It was also Russia's excuse for invading Ukraine (and most countries actually) - that Russian minorities were being oppressed in Eastern Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, etc.
Once you go down the ugly moral path you advocate, things get bad fast.
You could argue the opposite as well - that the Jews were the original inhabitants and were oppressed by the Muslim invasions that swept over the entire area, all the way into Europe, with conquest and mass child rape and slavery and beheading that went on for a millenia. By that measure, do we all get to kill Muslims until they're back in Saudi Arabia?
Such juvenile, Nazi/Russian-like thoughts as the below don't really belong on this forum
So genocide of women, children, babies is fine as long as the group doing it were oppressed by your definition of oppressed?
bruv, thats literally the argument for Israel. Jews are so oppressed so Israel should be able to do some light genocide, maybe a little ethnic cleansing. after all "antisemitism is on the rise."
and one of the saddest things is that the Hamas concentration camp uprising was far more restrained and humane than just about every other anticolonial struggle. read stories about Nat Turner's uprising, the Haitian revolution, various Algerian uprisings where they reportedly actually did murder a bunch of innocents intentionally.
and ofc Hamas at its worst is still infinitely more civil than Israel or the US or the UK or France ever were in their mass extermination for profit campaigns.

What bridges has Netanyahu actually burned? A lot of the anti-Israel sentiment already existed which factored into Hamas’ decision to attack in the first place. There’s been increased strain on Israel’s relationship with the US but so far it’s unclear if that bridge has been burned. On top of this, Iran has not made any meaningful allies throughout this war, unless you count western leftists with their contributions to the propaganda machine. We still don’t know what things on the ground in Iran look like and can’t say how any rebuilding process will go.
The existential risk hit a tipping point when Iran had Israel surrounded by proxy terrorist armies. Now most of that military strength is severely depleted and Iran is showing no signs that they are able to maintain their former projection of terror against Israel.
As with most things, the situation is much less black and white than you are trying to make it out to be.

Yeah, Iran no longer has a nuke that they've been two weeks away from deploying for the last 40 years any longer.
But yes, it's very complicated. The head of the IC and the head of NCTC both said Iran wasn't an imminent threat, but ya boy Trump got the drop on both of them.
But now that the head of the IC is a nepo grandson of a home builder with the same experience in intelligence as the average McDonald's worker, things are swell now.

I'm just being brief . I accept lots of black and white. Also raising the risk doesn't mean israel wont end up better off - again to put it in simplistic terms - if you put everything on red then sometimes you win. But if the bet goes bad as is quite possible for israel then you can lose the lot.
re bridges if you don't think sentiment against israel has moves very significantly then we will just disagree - not least in the usa.

I agree that Israel has lost favor with a lot of the world, that much is undeniable. However, I think sentiment towards Israel in the west was already turning when the Gaza war brought the issue to the forefront. I think Israel has realized that currying for favor with western leftists is mostly a dead end.
