There wasn't much chance. Sterling had been woeful and had too many miles in his legs. Hopefully lessons learnt.

Shopping in the PL now it can be fully afforded is desirable unless there's an outstanding talent outside. Even mid table PL defences are a lot better than in most leagues now, making the risk of failure for forwards too great.

Part of the reason why Barca opted to pay €80m for Gordon instead of €30m for Rashford is that his wages make him extremely expensive. That being said, United may be keen to offload him and pay some of his wages.I never thought the Sterling loan was a bad move. Obviously it didn't work out, but Arsenal essentially paid nothing for him and there was a chance that he

Maybe he would also be keen on a move, not even sure if the United door is completely closed to him at this point or not. Doubt we would break our wage structure for Rashford though. The biggest questionmark is legs I guess. Can he / does he want to run as much as Martinelli/Trossard?

Think there were many more things wrong with Sterling at the point of us getting him than miles in his legs. Lego Pep wanted a mentality guy as well, but I think Sterling is a shadow of his former self in more ways than one. Hasn't he just been arrested for DUI and possession of drugs?

Not that the party is done. What is everyone's priority for the summer signings wise?

Hate to say it and I'm sure unpopular opinion but we need to replace Ben White. Need a reliable back up. Gabriel Jesus out as well.

by MindFckr

LW and RW upgrades are a must. If they can play ST in there it is a plus.

Yildiz, Barcola and Diomande are non-prem options but financially not sure how possible. Rogers is a good option too. It's just $$$, all the LW/RW upgrades are going to be expensive.

Kroupi played as a LW in ligue 2 but as a 10 in the prem so not sure how good of an option he is. Would love for him to come as a LW though, 19 years old and prem proven.

If we ever won the league (LOL) I would absolutely time a trip home so I could go to the parade.

Maybe not if you don't do it in a really entertaining way. lol

Not at all. For me Jurrien Timber is my no1 RB, but Benny Blanco has the passing ability, but both are made of glass.

LW is a must, RW is a nice to have.

lol the Spurs fan copium is doing my head in

Just today I have had 3 comments from friends:

"They werent the best team for me"

"League gave it to them"

And my favourite

"They got the most points but were far from the best team. The "win by any means necessary" mentality while successful will not endear you to neutrals or the football community. They will be forever known as the cheating set piece masters. Similarly Leeds were successful in the early 70's and are still referred to dirty Leeds to this day."

Have a day off will you

This has the same energy as * for Plop covid season.

Or 115 * next to City's every season.

I wouldnt mind the latter btw if they didnt **** with Everton / Chelsea / other clubs either.... then let loose the dogs of war and not pretend we have any sort of rule based system around financials

I think outs for us will be:

Viera (thought he had already gone but still on the books)
Nelson
Jesus
Norgaard
Arrizabalaga
Nwaneri (mainly due to being home grown and being pure profit)
Trossard

The latter is mainly due to age and he has a year left on his contract.

Think you can add Martinelli to that list, who also has a year left and who they haven't offered a new contract to.

Think we might keep Martinelli. Like a perfect squad player. Unless we really break the bank on not 1, but 2 LWs

If the rumours about wanting Rogers and Kroupi are true, with Eze that makes three who could do an inverted left winger role that he seems to favour when the right side has width provided by the RB (which we need to buy).

Kinda hope we keep Trossard honestly. He was cheap, is reliable and always brings something when you need it most.
If we could get some money for Martinelli I'd be fine selling him, which sucks cause I really hoped we had something special in him.

Yea that makes sense, just not sure how much Trossard has left in him, but he was excellent this season.

In the meantime Konate to Real done seemingly

Liverpool have made some really poor contract decisions over the last couple of years

It would be a real shame to lose him but you are right. Especially has he has the homegrown status I believe so would just show as 100% pure profit. Which we may need to buy

Who's going to be the hero who does the WC thread?

not me

Didn't we often let fans of the reigning champions do it (maybe andre made the last one?), are there even any?

More importantly than xG, it's the defence that was key.
They were 4th in goals conceded, only behind Arsenal, Man City and Brighton.
I can't see them keeping hold of Roefs Mukiele and Ballard.
Plus the extra games in Europe...

Sunderland feel like an insanely good shout to go down next season. I also wonder if Bournemouth are an outsider for the drop as well. Iraola moving to Pool and Scott not wanting to re-up does feel like their top-flight run could well end next season (I have no clue how strong any of the teams coming up are).

I'd happily take action on Bournemouth staying up next season

Agreed the Sunderland shout is a good one, especially with European games. Not saying its likely/even if it happens will be appealed but there are all these rumours about a 115 verdict incoming. It's possible City being demoted could take away one of the relegation spots.

I think we could be in for a competitive title race next season. Arse have opened pretty strong favourites but there's a lot of teams who didn't challenge this season who might do next year imo. I also think refs will be harsher on Arteta-ball next season after the incoming World Cup crackdown on that style.

Someone (not me) go and start the World Cup thread. I am literally counting down the days to it. Can't wait to see which random player from one of the lower ranked countries goes mad and scores 6 goals then gets handed a 7 year contract by Chelsea.

Definitely a good shout for the drop. They may not have conceded many goals but they ran insanely hot to do that, gave up an obnoxious amount of chances for the amount of goals actually conceded and without changing that predict some regression to the mean.

Bournemouth who knows hoe much of it is Iraola vs the club, Bournemouth may be another Brentford or Brighton where it doesnt matter that much who is at the helm they're so well run, but we will see more next year.

To me it feels like the 3 new teams are going back straight.

Sunderland xg ,+ europe, but they bought strong last season, think they will reinforce now.

Bmouth are too solid for that imo

Bournemouth sold their central defence with Huijssen & Zabarnyi
Then they sold their best player with Semeneyo
Somehow this doesnt seem to hurt them and they keep on providing the goods. I think the club is ran too well to be contenders for relegation.

Really going out on a limb here mate.

I don't think they'll be favoured to go down but I do think they're likely to be in the mix.
