I guess you are saying that this spot is too 'good', and that you don't need to turn it into a bluff? (and to look for more marginal spots with less equity instead as bluffs).

Interesting if so, as I often have thought that these kinds of spot (bottom pair + backdoor) are good c/r candidates.

yes. look at the equity for the hands it chooses to x/r:

So we x/r the Ad3o but not Ad4o, for example.

Too late to edit my post I meant not check raising marginal equity spots that have around 50% equity - where we’d look instead for either top of range TPTK, 2p etc on one end or pure draw / backdoor spots on the other instead.

It’s definitely not the easiest concept to adopt because you get yourself into a lot of sticky turn situations when you whiff or if villain is near the top of their range.

How many bb deep were you?

pretty tough not to cram that turn though. it works if he doesn't have 10d I think?

Great discussion guys! 👍

Big night at K tonight. I got stacked on my first bullet, reloaded, and proceeded to do no wrong for the next 4 hours. It was very fun.

+8.7k slides on to the leaderboard as the 3rd-best single cash session ever. It’s nice to continue to post results that keep raising that bar.

The hand histories weren’t even very interesting. Make the nuts, get it in, repeat. There were three somewhat interesting spots where I was OOP with medium strength showdown value, and check/called to successfully induce bluffs. But a fourth time I was behind, and paid off when I should have folded. Meh.

I was close to breakeven on the month after all my trips. Tonight puts it solidly in the black.

I’m working a ton, then DJing a ton the next couple weeks, so there won’t be much more time for poker in the near future.

Sprinting through to the finish, then kicking off the new thread with 19 days in Las Vegas!

Finally catching up a little, good runs guys! I just missed you, as I was at the end of a camping trip and arrived at Harrah's on Monday the 11th. We enjoyed the barbecue place (better than Soul Belly in Vegas), and I enjoyed the poker room action, courtesy of the WSOP series. Good luck at the WSOP!

Let’s close the book on May, and this thread, and recap the month.

With two weekend trips to Cherokee, plus dabbling in assorted local cash games, I’m pleased with my overall volume in May, playing a total of 77.4 hours. That breaks down to 31.8 hours of tournament play, and 45.6 hours of cash games. The bottom line was very solid, almost +$9.8k. Just missed a 5-figure month!

That doesn’t include gas, food, and travel expenses, which landed in the ballpark of $1.5k-$2k. When I’m evaluating whether a trip was worth it, any time I come out ahead of expenses, I consider it a free, fun, paid-for vacation.

I knew between work, travel, and DJing, getting into the gym would be difficult. I only managed one workout for the entire month, so I’m disappointed in myself for that.

However, thanks to the magic of GLP-1 drugs fundamentally changing my relationship with food, the weight loss journey is very much still on track. Now down 19.4 lbs year to date.

I went up a notch on my go-to belt, and it might be time to get new scrubs soon. My pants slip down when I’m hunched over pushing wheelchairs, and the patients are making fun of me.

I’m not going to set fitness goals for June, since I’ll be in Las Vegas almost the entire month. My only June poker goal is to bring home at least one more dollar in cash than what I take out there …or more.

That next chapter in my ongoing story starts now! We’ll look to see EVERYBODY in the new thread, which can be found here.

Thanks again to everyone for reading and supporting my work!

After such a profitable poker month, the good news is you can afford to buy new scrubs. Heck, you can afford to get the fanciest scrubs available (I'm thinking 24-karat gold trim).
