How exactly does this work? Is the app going to ask us to rate every dealer after every down? I'm so sick of apps and emails asking me to rate stuff all the time. The WSOP app is actually really good overall, and this might ruin it.
My assumption (hope) is that the complaint above was confusion between ESA, or people who just brought their dogs because they wanted to, vs an actual service animal.I have played several events where someone had a legit service animal, one last year was a 90lb + Great Pyrenees. He laid on the ground next to his owner 's chair and there was no issue. I think that is the best

I wonder if they’re flexible on seating as well. I try to avoid seats 4, 5, and 6 in cash when possible, since aisle/end seats just tend to be easier for everyone involved.

Just curious, unless you’re vision-impaired, what kind of “service” would a dog sitting at a poker table with you provide? What services are we talking about? Obvious I can understand vision-impaired, but what other conditions am I not thinking of?

A lot of people understandably just think of guide dogs for the visually impaired, but there are many different types of legitimate service animals.
Without getting too personal publicly, he’s trained to help ground and stabilize me during certain medical episodes and recognize symptoms before they escalate.
That can be especially important during long tournament sessions where stress/fatigue can compound things.
95% of the people who bring animals/pets places do not have an actual need for them.
Of those 5% that do, which you appear to fall into that category, I would have assumed you knew your rights in respect to this and wouldn't be reliant on asking for opinions of poker players in an online forum to validate your usage.

There are multiple non guide dog service animals. Most are scent based. These can include diabetes, ptsd, Addison’s, seizures, cardiac events, etc.
All the rating systems in the world won’t teach a dealer how to make change for a 25k chip calling an 8k bet if they don’t know how to subtract.

This is interesting because the complaint for years has been how bad many of the WSOP dealers are.
Also, I wonder if they are issuing any guidelines for the dealers to follow such as no extraneous talking when in the box, slant the deck at a downward angle, bring all the chips to the center of the table before dealing the next card (assuming it's not a split pot game), and so on. If they did something like this, WSOP management could also make this information available to the players and now the players would have a better idea of how to rate the dealers.

You’re being very patient with the haters, which is kind of you. Ignore them. You have a legal right to have your service dog with you and owe these trolls nothing. Good luck this summer!

There are 3 types of dogs/animals in this realm:
1. Emotional support
2. Therapy
3. Service
1 is a joke - you can get a prescription from a doctor like you would for a sinus infection. It’s way abused as a way for someone who likes there dog and think it’s cool to bring their dog in places where it may not be common to bring a pet. Those places do not have to allow a support animal, many do. Dog needs no training to have a doc prescribe this. I say this as a pet/dog person my entire life.
2 is a trained animal that typically someone is brought to (or may be brought out) that has training on how to help with a variety of issues. You’re not going to see a therapy dog with someone at a poker table
3 is a highly trained animal with that person for a specific issue. Often labeled (maybe always?) with service dog vest. You are typically not to pet/approach said dog as I understand. These should be allowed say at a poker table with the owner. I wonder if a person deals with issues that requires a service animal if gambling as occupation makes the most sense….but that’s a non-educated opinion of mine that I don’t have qualifications to say firmly.
I’ve sat next to dogs at a poker table that would fit #1 (or maybe just a pet) and didn’t mind much. I also think there’s a time and place for a pet (not at poker table). Service dogs should be allowed.

Agree. The problem is/was that #1, and people just bringing their pets everywhere, became really popular for a while, eventually people started to get annoyed with this and lots of places thankfully stopped allowing it. Many local supermarkets and businesses near me now have signs that say service animals only. Last year I noticed that resorts world has similar signs near several entrances.
What sucks is that people who have/need legit service animals get incorrectly lumped into #1. Additionally, for like $25 you can just buy a service animal vest on amazon, and hardly any employee is going to hassle someone if their pet has a service animal vest and ask for "proof".

Worst ive seen is this dude who busts out his laptop and is "working " while playing. Like dude...cmon
In the Milly Maker a guy beside me (businessman-looking guy of about 45) had his laptop on the rail watching soft porn continually during the game. He held up the game badly, and when a dealer told him so, he lit on her with a torrent of abuse, saying that she made mistakes in every hand (she didn't).
I came in on the dealer's side - can't stand dealer abuse - and was disappointed when the rest of the table stayed silent. Fun table!
I'm open to any idea to improve dealer quality at the WSOP and especially the horrendously run WSOPc. This rating/rewards system could honestly work and I hope they continue to iterate and improve it.

and to the discussion above, I (maybe naively) didn’t anticipate this much detail or conversation around it. my hope is that maybe someone lurking this thread now or in the future is helped by it in some way.
I definitely agree with the sentiment that people taking advantage of the system can negatively impact treatment of those with a legitimate need, but on the flip side I also have a lot of gratitude for the laws in place that protect people who genuinely rely on service animals. 😀

My thoughts too. So you just ban them, and the 1% that leave, good riddance. They're always terrible for for the game anyway, same thing for sun glasses. Its honestly a win win. The only issue is (as tech evolves) is prescription glasses. Like, are you going to force people to show you their prescription and look at their glasses? So many obstacles coming up for poker. Maybe

As a foreigner (Australia) I always find it eye opening at the WSOP every year how many dogs, mobility scooters and smokers there are. Never in my life have I seen a single one of these in an Australian casino.

America is kind of in a Long Run/Gaucho recording sessions combined with Ali’s last 7-8 fights phase at the moment.
I find it hard to believe that "get good reviews, earn extra money" will make a dealer any better at their job if it is literally their first day, week, or month dealing.
The main dealer problem at the WSOP is not seasoned dealers who aren't trying their best, it is total novices who don't know what they are doing and don't have any speed. At least in my handful of WSOP visits.
As someone who used to watch a lot of FT streamed via wsop.com or bluff back in 07-08 I am so hyped that we get youtube to stream all these tables.
I am eager to see how they do it and even if its just a overhead cam for each FT that would be ****ing hype for someone who loved watching mixed events.
