TR: Two 40yo fishcakes return to Vegas from UK
It’s been a day and an age since my last
Trip report (2014) - and now we’ve grown older (40!), maybe wiser and certainl
The guy with the candy is a ref at the Venetian. He plays there every day all day for 18 hours straight. When I was there in March and the tourney promo was running he was playing 30 hour sessions, going home to sleep and shower for 6 hours and do another 30 hours. He slept between hands. Crazy guy.
Ha! They were talking about that guy in a Horseshoe game. They said sometimes he played for multiple days w/out sleeping.
Think he was lying about that part or joking or dunno. But who knows. When I played with him a bunch in March he had like 10k cash on him for 1/3 + a ton at the table.
Yea he had 20k in 1k chips with him and said it from the crazy plo game. Not sure someone with that would choose to be homeless but you never know !
Day 2: Not a great day for the bankroll. After a long session at the Venetian in the morning I cashed out a loser. Playing at the 2/3$ Didn’t manage to win a bomb pot over maybe 6 hours and my pairs and cbets were not so fruitful.
Only memorable losing hand was playing red JJ in a multiway pot. Raised EP. Flop A J 9. Two spades.
Bet 35 one caller in LP. Turn a kinda yuck Ts bringing in the flush. I bet 75 he calls - I see value in checking too but feel I’m ahead loads.
River 3s bringing the fourth spade. I check and fold to a pot bet. Guy shows an A with what I figure was a Qs. Cashed out -520$ not a great start to the day.
As my buddy was delayed in LAX, we pushed back our reservation at Carbone Riviera at Bellagio to 10pm. Had a lovely waterside table and got a mix of seafood entrees, lamb and vodka pasta. Solid food all round.

They were kind enough to bring us both a birthday ice cream and blanket as it was super cold out. Channeling my inner OMC.

To end off the night and way too drunk, myself and my buddy jumped in the 2/3 Bellagio. Got it in pretty quickly with AKdd. I 3b an EP raise to 60$. The sb 4b to 160$ and I got it in - he has TT ? And I lost to a set.
Kinda relieved I took myself to bed whilst my friend played on for a few hours on his first night in vegas. Managed to get in 5-6h of semi broken sleep which was very much needed.

Happy birthday!!!
Day 3:
Started off to a loser with -315 at the Venetian 1/3.
Later on managed to dust off another -380$ at the Bellagio 1/3. Only hand I noted was EP limps. I raise 15$ with KQhh
Flop:
Q 4 4
Checked to me I bet 25. EP player calls.
Turn 3 he checks I bet 45 he call.
River: A
He checks. I think for a bit on this as I’m targeting QJ/QT hands maybe KQ also I can get off the river.
Anyways I bet 55 for crying calls and he calls with AQ 😃 I did not expect him to be that strong. Open limp AQ seems wild.
Dinner we headed to Park MGM for Bavette steak. Lovely speakeasy vibe inside.

Grabbed an iceberg bacon salad thing and prawn cocktail for starters and a cocktail. These were fantastic.
Mains I took a steak and fries with crispy Dijon Brussels sprouts and a nice zingy lemon parmesan asparagus on the side.
Good quality and seem somewhat reasonable priced for vegas strip. The sides and entrees stood out as winners over the main course imo.

Absurdly passive by your opponent indeed. And I assume he didn't even consider raising the river, although to be fair you should have very little AK here as played.
I think $55 into $174 might be slightly too big on the river to get the calls you are looking for, although I like the idea of getting KQ off a chop (it would likely fold to this sizing).
Personally I would have bet $20 or something silly like that, simply because I would never expect to be raised + that might yield shrug-calls from worse Qx hands.
Hands like above is the only 'danger' of playing low stakes in Vegas; that people play strong hands very passively and you end up value-towning yourself at times. Although some expensive vacation trips to the city of Valuetown is a good thing in general 😀

I've been limping all drawing hands lately. I'm seeing a lot of 3 and 4 bets. Since I apparently really like to hit flops if I fold before the flop.
Day 4: Day 4: Wrestlemania baby!
Started the day off right at the Bellagio Gym. Nice facility, kinda small but had plenty of equipment. Grabbed a quick breakfast at snacks after for maximum gains.. Have American style breakfast and fruit.

Sit in 1/3 at the Bellagio after breakfast for 500$ at the Bellagio. A bit of up and down when a big hand comes up.
Im on the bb with QQ. My buddy is to my immediate left who puts in the straddle to 6$. A guy calls early position. Folded to me so I raise to $25 in bb. My buddy pretty quickly rr to $100. Ep calls? I think for a second and ship it in for $430. The straddle reships and EP tanks and calls. Uh oh.
EP shows 77 (wtf lol) and my pal of course has the pocket rockets.
However Lady Luck favoured my two ladies when I flop a queen in the window:
Flop: Q7x
The turn is overkill as I make quads with ridiculous ease. EP proudly announces boat as I somewhat sheepishly roll over my quad queens. A lucky but well needed to win to turn around my P&L.

]
After winning a big pot sometimes I feel the energy and confidence shift. Shortly after I win my first bomb pot of the trip just after with KQ56.
Flop (7 players)
K76 cc
332
I make 2 pair and not much on the other board. However it’s checked to me I bet $20. Two calls.
Turn:
K76Kccc
3326r
I make a boat on the top and a pair bottom with I pot it. Old guy in seat 8 calls with his last 100.
River:
K76KA
3326Q
I win both boards vs a crappy flush on top and nothing on bottom vs my Q6 2p. Cashed out a wonderful +$980 in a few short hours. A nice way to robusto after a not ideal start to the trip.
Now it was time for Wrestlemania. It was always a lifelong dream as a kid to see wrestling live - my friends and I would watch Bret the hit man heart and the undertaker plus many more battling it out on the mats. Luckily the stars aligned and we snagged some tickets which coincided with this treat. We were super pumped.
We headed back and put on some wrestling outfits and headed out. We had a quick drink at NYNY to get loosened up.
The show itself was pretty intense and loud. Oba Femi won the best walkout award. Lots of action and awesome matches. The ladder match with Rey Mysterio and the CM punk and Roman Reigns main feature match were brilliant. I felt like I looked the part also ..

After a longish walk back towards the casinos, we headed back to Venetian for some sushi rolls at Nomikai, a little casino floor side casual dining spot with stools. We had pretty some tasty tuna and salmon hand rolls with Yuzu soda, which was light and hit the spot after all the greasy stadium chicken & fries.
Feeling pretty tired, we headed to Venetian 1/3 buyin for $300 cash out $315. Nothing memorable to write about. Pretty exhausted we only lasted an hour or two and headed back to the B for the night.
Poker total -370$

Wait, what? You guys are Brits, and like rasslin? I thought that was mostly a 'Merican hillbilly thing. I was at a table in Horseshoe with a guy that said he was a bigtime agent. He told a few tales you prob would've enjoyed.

10 or 15 years ago, I was head for my plane in the Vegas airport, and there was Hulk Hogan, all dressed up in his getup. It wasn't any sort of event, he apparently travels that way, and stopped in one of the gates to talk to a fan. Just keeping his brand current I guess.
