2028 ELECTION THREAD
We are a quarter of the way through the year so I thought I'd bump this.
On the GOP side, I would put Marco Rubio ahead of JD Vance, Nikki Hailey, Ron DeSantis, etc.
On DEM side Gavin Newsom and then field.

I would put Rubio and Vance far ahead of any competitors on the GOP side. I guess no one can stop DeSantis from running for president, but I think his days as a theoretically viable Republican candidate are over. He proved to be terrible at the job of running for president and so profoundly uncharismatic that I can't imagine him ever improving enough to win the nomination, much less the general.

Rubio didn't do well when he ran either.
Rubio seems most capable on the Republican side. Newsom to me is too obvious of a choice, I think someone like Shapiro will overtake him at some point.
Stephen A. Smith/AOC
AOC looks to be running. thats why she is trying to whitewash her previously pro-Israel stance.
lol. wasn't it like last week she was saying how much she loves them and how they can have all the "defensive" bombs they want?
it literally doesn't matter who blue maga puts forward, they're all the same zionist cia china hawk garbage
Sheβs pro-Israel (doesnβt want every Jew in Israel to die)
"i never have"
lolwut. that can't possibly be true. i know she gutlessly abstained from some votes, but shirley she voted in support of many of them over the years. and that recent support of "defensive" weapons news cycle was within the last few weeks or months
she def voted against the MTG amendment that would have cut Iron Dome spending. I guess she is arguing that "technically" she didnt vote to fund weapons, just to not stop funding them? or some such bullshit.
the older I get the more I understand that Stalin and Mao were not wrong about these ghouls.

She also voted against releasing the records of all the congress and Senate folks that had sexual assault and complaint settlements paid out protecting her fellow Democrats

Vance has to be the runaway favorite for the GOP
Rubio is a charmless disaster who can barely put together a coherent thought as a MAGA champion he has no idea how to play. Meanwhile, Vance is Thiel’s golden boy and it’s pretty hard to understate how impressive he was conning everyone during the VP debate into the idea that he’s actually a moderate who respected his opponent, Tim Walz. Of the 4 candidates in the 2 debates, Vance was BY FAR the most polished and poised and while he’s probably gonna lose some of the MAGA coalition I have to imagine all moderate republicans will rally to him
DeSantis is done
It wouldn’t surprise me if RFK runs as a Republican which would be very very funny

Either Vance or Rubio would be a fantastic President. These guy’s are normal humans unlike the Democratic candidates. I’d advise the Dems to be smart and run a younger guy this time. People just want a rational center to right President.
I agree that Vance or Rubio likely will be the nominee, but not because GOP primary voters are clamoring for a "normal human."
The think the GOP primary largely will be a referendum on how GOP primary voters feel about the Iran war and any subsequent wars that Trump starts. Rubio pretty clearly has positioned himself on team war, whereas Vance is pinning his hopes on team "distance then pivot."

I don’t think it’s clamoring for a normal human as much as it is that there won’t be another situation where there are 13 establishment candidates or whatever it was cannibalizing themselves allowing trump to win with a plurality
Not to mention the maga bench for national office is comically bad. Hegseth may very well be the best option that crowd has

And you thought AOC is a Maoist why? The only people I hear saying stuff like that are either on or watch a lot of Fox News. She may say things like βcapitalism is irredeemable,β but I take that as rhetoric since she hasnβt proposed alternatives anywhere near the revolutionary scale of someone like Castro.
I really don't she even knows much about communism. I do though and would never vote for an actual one. So if the DNC gives us another boat anchor for the general, I might vote for AOC. And I'm mostly aligned with the Blue Dog camp.
She also voted against releasing the records of all the congress and Senate folks that had sexual assault and complaint settlements paid out protecting her fellow Democrats
So you are begging the question that it was to protect her fellow democrats? And you donβt know? Itβs amazing how you seemed to know a lot about it.

Well if none of her fellow Democrats are part of the file she would vote for it in a heartbeat . And yes of course the list will have tons of Republicans on it as well

no I was just making a joke that Stalin was right to kill the liberals bc they are just as bad (if not worse as both MLK and Malcolm understood) as the overt racist right wingers.

The files are unvetted and as the vote was constituted, she would have been doxxing potential victims and also releasing unsupported or even in some cases provably false allegations. Her Republican colleagues did not want to discuss these issues. She even said she would have supported a similar bill that was more thought through.
As former rep Adam Kinzinger once quipped (paraphrasing), you can call a bill the Puppies and Rainbow bill but it doesnβt mean that youβll get puppies and rainbows if it passes.
The idea is good but the text itself was rushed and not thought through. It violated a lot of standard practices to protect survivors and due process:
1. It also released documents related to allegations found to be false or unsubstantiated, not just verified violations or settlements. So innocent people would get lumped in with violators.
2. To our knowledge, there was zero victim consent or consultation on this text. That is very different than with Epstein, where victims are centered and consulted at every step. Here, victims offered all their statements with the promise of protection and anonymity. The text gave them no way to have a voice in what information of theirs or their accounts they wanted public or keep private. That is important becauseβ¦
3. Although there was a throwaway line about redacting victim names, I do believe full witness or victim statements would have been released. With the way employment at the House works (offices are small, time periods of staff employment are publicly disclosed, etc) it means that even with names redacted you can definitely track details in witness statements and use that to ID victims without their consent. And there was zero mechanism for victims themselves to assert their privacy.
Originally we were supposed to debate the details of the text over two days but for some reason they rushed the vote so we couldnβt iron out any of these details to get this information properly disclosed in a way that guarantees victim safety.
If the text was clean I think youβd get a lot more support. As a survivor, I know why the vast majority of women never report at all and a lot of those reasons, even if unintentionally or inadvertently, were included here. For me at least, guaranteeing the safety and agency of victims and survivors would get me to a YES.

Sounds like Adam is in the files
