Lodge Card Club Raided / Grand Jury does not indict any Lodge employees
Came looking for some info on this, but I guess I will kick the thread off. Anyone there at the time or know more detail
Thats a ton of words to say it might be some vague AML-control issues. Be specific, what possible AML violations could they have? Not filing CTRs for $10K+ transactions? Not filing SARs for $5k transactions?
Is there any evidence that they didn't have procedures to ensure they were filing CTRs and SARs? Without it I find it extremely implausible that they just didn't file them. So what AML control issues are you claiming would have tripped them up?
Mostly good ain't enough to stop from criticizing those who don't do good. And note, when these "friends and neighbors" commit crimes or strip citizens of their rights, they have substantial protections under the law from being prosecuted and sued, unlike you and me.
the level of good has been good enough over the last 250 years to make america the peak of human existence. and its not close. people who condemn the public servants of america with a broad brush as vincent did are misguided at best, i cant say what they actually are or the bot will delete this post.
I don’t see any involvement of any federal agencies or any federal charges so far. I doubt the fed courts would agree with the Texas definition of money laundering as outlined in the news article.
trumpcon inc. doesnt think anyone is rich enough to shake down. if one of these casinos was owned by ben afflek, lebron, or kevin hart there would 100% be a Chauncey billups style shakedown going on and a rash of federal charges.

with additional. details from the search warrant that I don't believe were reported in the PokerNews article. Here are the interesting details I've culled from article:Title: How a Round Rock poker club landed in an illegal gambling, money laundering probeThe allegations against The Lodge Card Club The Lodge Card Club operates as a mOK, it sounds like they are alleging that Lodge made their money from tournaments and seat fees, rather than membership fees. That is just attacking the underlying model of Texas poker rooms.
OK, it sounds like they are alleging that Lodge made their money from tournaments and seat fees, rather than membership fees. That is just attacking the underlying model of Texas poker rooms.
Looks to me like even just receiving membership fees violates Texas' "not receive an economic benefit beyond just poker winnings" exceptions law regarding poker games.
I haven't read the affidavit, but Pokernews claimed
Says deposits. Not offset by anything. If it turns out they actually did offset withdrawals, then I'll admit my criticism was wrong.
But think about it, which withdrawals would they offset by Withdrawals to pay vendors, rent, wages, taxes, owners, etc How do they know any would be illegal
The additional details from the Austin American Statesman I posted above indicated there were wires to players, which supports your theory that the large dollar amounts of transfers into the LODGE's bank accounts may be related to the innocuous movement of of players' funds.

Agreed. IMO, all of the "loopholes" that supposedly work around the "not receive an economic benefit from gambling" Texas rule are suspect, including charging for time instead of taking a rake. Ostensibly these loopholes are meant to demonstrate that members are paying to be at the club rather than paying to gamble at the club. But if the only real activity at the club is to gamble then this seems like an absurdly-thin veil that doesn't pass the duck test. This is something I wrote about extensively a few years ago when Doug and friends bought into the Lodge:

Yep. There's no way around that clear-cut exception. Texas cardrooms just operated with their "social club fingers crossed". It was fun while it lasted.
Wonder how the wsop circuit guys are feeling about that upcoming Texas Card House stop- starts 4/23.
No matter what you think of any of the public faces of the Lodge, this is unquestionably bad for Texas poker and therefore bad for poker overall.

USA! USA! USA!
If you aren’t supposed to profit off of gambling, I would like to see the investor documents for the most recent round of financing. I’m sure Rampage and Mariano et. al. Invested money showing increased PROFIT from the primary business of GAMBLING. The hourly fee is a rake equivalent.
It is one thing to do this on the lowdown. It was promoting this on billboards and a stream that ensured that their ‘social’ model would be tested.

I agree with you, but am worried the trends are bad. Both the massive growth in size of government has led to a world with millions of pages of regulations given the force of law such that we no longer even know all the laws we break.
And the on drugs specifically has created or made common no knock raids, civil asset forfeiture, qualified immunity, zero tolerance forfeitures, drug sniffing dogs at traffic stops, stop and ID, stop and frisk, and money laundering regulations.
The last one meant my bank closed my accounts a few months ago because I kept depositing a few thousand in cash from poker wins. That is despite months prior putting me through an hour long interview where I clearly documented that on my cash deposits were from poker, and where I played, and that I had no criminal history, etc.

lol boy are you wrong...way to judge whole cultures in two days. Norway is remarkable, Sweden and DEnmark are wonderful...spent lots of time in all three. Great countrie and people and lots of culture. And the only tundra is up north.
But it must be nice to know so much about every topic, Limon.

Good thing that you settled it for the world without a hint of irony.
I knew a guy at college from Finland. He knew how to drink but flunked out. Let me know if that changes your opinion.
Limon,Why would you think id befriend those individuals? I did know a couple prosecutors, cops, and politicians in my time while owning a restaurant near the court house. I grew up in a fairly small town. Never personally had an issue with them, but I know what most of them stand for. Do we need all of these groups? Unfortunately we do. But a large percentage of them are not t
IÂ’m a long time lurker and signed up to defend my profession. Your generalizations are ridiculous and seem to be based on a small town upbringing. Certainly you have other life experiences to form this opinion but I disagree with your broadbrushing.
I spend my days dealing with domestic violence, rapists, sex offenders and other violent criminals. There is nothing nefarious about what I do unless you think seeking justice for victims of violent or sex crimes is shady. We have Judges (guessing in your mind they are also scummy) and rules of evidence to keep us in line. I can promise you that the defense bar is much shadier than my side.
When I started I spent a year in our traffic division. Unless you walked into court and acted like a jackass, or a sovereign citizen, or you had a record longer than my arm you got a break. I had plenty of discretion and I used it. I loathed the notion of locking people up who couldnÂ’t pay fines and did not do it. The only part of traffic I was difficult was DUIs. No wiggle room and people that drive drunk deserve nothing from the system other than what they end up with.
A majority of the people I know who do this are the same. Sure there are bad apples. What field are there not?
I would also suggest that .01% of DAs or fed prosecutors are involved in cases like The Lodge. I have no knowledge of this case other than what IÂ’ve seen online or in this thread. ItÂ’s not enough for me to comment.
End rant.

This is a great description of most professional poker players btw.

I'm 100% correct and its not close. There is no culture in these places compared to america. In los angeles alone you have the largest populations of koreans, armenians, mexicans, phillipinos and many other nationalities outside their home countries. to compare this to dopey monocultures like norway is laughable. Sweden wasn't even a democracy until 1921! and all of these countries stole their model from the far superior 1st of its kind united states of america. the richest, most advanced country in the history of humanity. sorry if that hurts you somehow.

correct. please note the incomparable limon immediately lept to the defense of the public servants that make america the envy of the world. in depth high school civics courses should be mandatory, its amazing how many people complain about a system they dont participate in and know nothing about.
Living in a medium-high income area in a blue state in America easily puts you in the top 1% living conditions world wide. Norway, Sweden and Denmark all have populations equal to a mid sized state in the US. You’re trying to compare apples to oranges.
Apparently Sweden has the second highest rate of gun crime related deaths in Europe, trailing only Albania.
And here’s a BBC article speaking on the rise of gang violence there.
I mean not to be a smart*** but tell that to the 15,000+ human beings living on skid row or in tents in San Francisco.
the reason they can "live" in san fran tent cities is because the people of that area are so friggin rich and tolerant (check property values near skid row for reality check). you dont see masses of homeless people in poor rural areas (but thats where they often come from), homeless are drug addicted, mentally ill, dumb and lazy but they know where their bread is buttered!
