Looks like we're losing another one
It was mentioned in a couple of other threads a few days ago, but with an employee confirming it I guess it's official. It sucks to see yet another poker room disappear, but RW seems to have struggled with traffic since day one. I also think they set their ambitions way too high by having this huge 30-table room that looked very empty 99% of the time.
I really liked the room the one time I was there, but RW is so far on the end of the strip that it's no surprise that it was never able to generate any serious tourist traffic. I'm surprised Mandalay Bay is still open for the same reason.

Did they do anything to attract customers? Or did they just open a poker room and expect people to come?
I really liked that room. Although I will admit I never really supported it. Only time I ever played there was a few tournaments last WSOP. They ran great tourneys and was a very "comfortable" room. Just a crappy location though.
They ran a great noon tourney but why go there when the Wynn was running a similar tournet across the street with 3X the player pool? They really needed to distinguish themselves with a different daily. Either a $100 great structure (non-turbo) or a $500 to differentiate from the $200 Wynn daily. Running the same entry/structure as Wynn never had a chance. It did well during WSOP by offering a lower entry point to Wynn/Venetian which were in the 800 to 1100 range at the time.
But the location sucked. They would never get walk in cash business and the tourney was too "identical" to Wynn.
They started doing promotions a few months ago in an effort to attract customers but I always looked at it as offering higher rake.
I was hoping it would be open during the WSOP though, with Wynn and Venetian being way too busy during that time.
Will the NAPT still be held there?
That's too bad. I liked the room and the mixed game was a blast. Floor was great, too. I would have played there more often if they got PLO going regularly.
