Winter Break! Trip report 1/27-2/3
Sitting here in sub zero weather I am really looking forward to getting out of here next week for the much more desirabl
Too wired to do to sleep right now so I may as well discuss a few key hands while I still sorta remember although after 13 hours it is all kinda of a blur.
My 45 minute drive home took about an hour and a half which was frustrating 😀 I got stuck behind a stalled freight train which is one of the perks of southern Chicagoland. But enough about that!
After the last break I went on a rush of sorts. Villian is huge stack and I am down to about 115K.5k/10K/10K and he raises to 30K in ep. He raises a lot and raises light. The blinds are gonna get me soon and I look down at 44. I shove and he tanks hard eventually calling. His KJ off didn't connect and I double up. I make a couple of steals, actually good starters that they all fold to. Then I get it in with QQ vs AK preflop and QQ works out. The I raise with 77 at 6K/12K/12K and get one callerflop is J88 and we both check. This guy is a big stack and kinda tricky. But the turn brings a beautiful 7 giving me a boat. I lead for 45K and he comes over the top for 145K. I hesitate for a second and shove. He folds. Is a shove here a mistake? My boat isn't the nuts but should I just call here and hope to extract more?
Anyway as you can see I got lucky with a few flips but you pretty much have to 😀 That got me up to about 850K which was close to tops. Then I missed a flip. I raise with 99 and guy I have well covered comes over the top all in. I call, he has AJ off. 99 remains the best pair but AJ makes a straight. From there I was just getting blinded off. I got it all in one more time with AK but it was against AK for a chop,
I am looking forward to Sunday. This will be the biggest pot of money I ever played for with the added allure of WSOP hardware (ring). I should have about 19 BBs as we ended in level 21 which is 15K/25K/25K unless one of the other flights ends before level 21.
Great job!
You’ll get a little pay bump for making Day 2, also. Once all the other flights play through, the Day 2 min cash will be more than what a day 1 bust would have been.
Shoving the 7’s is fine. You don’t want the board to trip up or double pair, plenty worse snap-calls you. If he raise/folded, he probably had an airball making a move, and you wouldn’t have won more anyway.
Great job!

Consensus around the table was that Sunday min cash would be around 2K. But who knows? Min cash is not my main concern 😀 Still too wired to sleep but need to get in bed soon. Hope to be well rested for Sunday activity!
Run pure, Mr. Baseball! Congrats on the Day two! I'm looking forward to reading your recollections of winning your first WSOP Circuit ring when I awake Monday morning.
Well done, and good luck for day 2!
Congratulations! Rest up for Sunday. Go Go Go!
One thing I wanted to mention because I found it strange. Hammonds chips are weirdly small at about 7/8 (or less!) the size of a normal chip. I don't like it.
Congratulations on the bad. Go get 'em today!
Congrats. The best is yet to come!
Was just playing around with the WSOP app. Of the 14 who bagged yesterday I was 6th in chips. And last nights flight ended at level 20 which gives me a few more BB's because we ended at 21 as did the first flight. Todays morning flight is still registering but its already way bigger than my flight yesterday. One more flight this afternoon too. The afternoons are smaller fields and faster levels so maybe they could back us up one more level 😀
Just about to head out for day 2. According to WSOP app there will be 80 of us. I am in the middle of the pack (41st) but below average in chips. Will resume at level 20 (10K/20K/20K) which gives me about 23 BBs. For whatever reason the app isn't showing the prize pool yet but I am sure it will be up when I get there.
Hope I can last, stay focused, avoid stupidity and run good.
Good luck and play well!
Good luck today!!
Good luck and now is when you want to run like God mode!!
Go get it! GL.
Build it up!
Good luck! Very flat until final 2 tables, gogogo
I'm out 54th place min cash. 2246. It was pretty active though. I doubled up early with Ace King suited versus queens. But then about two hands later I call a shovel with about 300K cuz I have queens. But he has Kings so I'm back almost to where I started. Then I made a couple plays where I had to fold and started getting blinded off and finally made my final shove with Ace 10. I was up against Jacks and I didn't improve. Mama take that long lonely ride home and I'll probably talk a little more about it later thanks for following along appreciate it.
Great run.
It seems like you played great. Only for my curiosity, but given the commute and the location, do you think it's worth it vs going to LV for another trip? I realize you made out very well.

Vegas is way better in every way. Hammond is kind of a shithole and there is no easy way to get to it. It doesn't really have expressway access and you have to drive through a bunch of super sketchy side streets to get to it. There are some really nice looking events next week but I think I will pass. I hate the drive to and from and the chairs are crappy. But it is good structure tournament poker, so when that is available I am always interested.
But I cash for 2276 for a profit of 1776 which is pretty damn patriotic if you ask me 😀 I was even wearing my American flag hat. But I need more practice at these late stage tournament. I know what to do with a short stack and I can handle a big stack but these middling stacks give me problems.
Early on with 425K (25k bb) ep raises to 50K. I look down at AK hearts. Do I make a reasonable raise or shove? I choose shove and he calls with QQ. Flop all black and small (uhg!) but turn gives me a K so I double up and feel like I now have a chance. but a couple hands later stack of 275ish shoves. I call with QQ and his KK wins.
Then I just get blinded all for a while. Make a call to a preflop raise with pocket 3's and fold when I whiff. Then another pair, this time 7's. I call a preflop raise to 60K. Flop is 89T and raiser checks. I should check too but I don't. I have open ender so I bet 100K hoping he folds. He snap shoves and I fold. That one brought me back to my initial 475ish. Then just getting blinded off which happens real fast at these levels. Down to 300K I am in shove anything reasonable range. Shove AT get called by JJ. And that was that.
It was a good experience and I enjoyed it but the would coulda shoulda aspect of tournement play is always a bitter pill. But hey cashing is good! I have 1700 more bullets for the real WSOP in June. Plan to go for 10-11 days this year.
Thanks again all for following along. See my next thread in June 😀
I'm working on a Sunday for no extra money (well, not direct money) so I am the last person to ask if you think it was worth it for the commute and downtime. I was just curious... moreso if you didn't cash.
Nice run and as always I will definitely follow. You share good experiences both inside and outside of poker.
