Power corrupts. Full stop. That Iran and Russia lack our power is why they're less inhumane. Character, ideological beliefs, etc are largely irrelevant.
That's also why socialism isn't a remedy outside of the textbooks. Power still accumulates and corruption follows because once people get hold of power they can't but think how thy could use it. The activist left is a great example of that. Once they get some power they keep pushing things until they blow up or get blown up.

There are plenty of ways where this could end up being worse for the Iranian people but you reach a point to were you really just have to test that theory unfortunately because Ali was one of the biggest **** stains and most powerful propagandist in human history for half a century and allowing him to continue to ruin the lives of millions on the assumption that the alternative is too big of a question mark isnt a viable plan either.
