Somehow threads merged, so here's part 4 of our ongoing movie discussion.
Me too although I preferred Sisu. Sisu sequel is pretty entertaining also.
The excitement is OK, it's the glorification that ruins them. They can make movies exciting and appalling at the same time, they don't need the glory.
I enjoyed Sisu and The Beekeeper. It's like the filmmaker watched the Hugo Stiglitz bit from Inglorious Basterds and wondered what a feature length film would look like with that character and that style. And it works!
Whiteout (2023)
A group of men who escape a Russian gulag must traverse the frozen Tundra to get to Finland safely in this solid and rather dark survivalist thriller.
Primate (2025)
A rabid chimp goes, well, apeshit (sorry 😃) in Hawaii in this pretty meh horror, that's somewhat elevated by some decent gore scenes but overall is pretty mediocre.
Nah it just screeches and bashes its hands against things a lot.
Sisu 2 had one of the best laughs I've had in a long time, though not a particularly original gag
Just got rid of it. Just call me the Vaporizer.

Watched If I Had Legs I'd Kick You.
I get it, but I'm not sure I would react to it as I think many would.
First, I love Rose Byrne. See her in Juliet, Naked (a fine small film), too. Conan O'Brien is surprisingly good (I never was a fan).
I get the whole trauma of motherhood stuff, but we have seen that before. Rosemary's Baby does it better but Legs tries to capture that eerie feeling and does for the most part.
I've heard it from women that men don't understand what women go through and feel that men have no clue or don't do enough. **** that.
I don't wish to deny the lived experience of mothers. Legs is a good film, but I found it a cold one, too, and perhaps too much of a "message" film. Reviewers seem to like it much better than I did.

Love Rose Byrne, too...but I have no interest in watching "people surviving their traumas/mental illness" movies anymore. I want to be entertained or moved or made to think. I don't want to be a trauma dump. Same goes for the latest Jennifer Lawrence movie, too.
I watched it more out of curiosity because it was described as a black comedy. I do think it was much more Rosemary's Baby than Boys Don't Cry. There's a rather strange kinda spooky thing going on.

Wong Kar-wai's Blossoms Shanghai is a 30 part story involving the Shanghai stock market, an upscale street populated by fancy restaurants where business deals take place, and the trade office. Those are the basic settings.
The narrative is mostly chronological, but will often move back in time, anywhere from a couple hours to 20 years.
Every episode is directed by Wong Kar-wai. The cinematography is stunning and the score is beautiful.
Like In The Mood for Love, Blossoms Shanghai explores love and memory, regret, betrayal, and all the missed opportunities along the way, the words said and unsaid.
Each episode is under an hour, but the 30 episodes feel like one long movie.

Hmmm? Sounds interesting. I was once offered a job to go and trade at The Shanghai Exchange. Turned it down because who the hell wants to go to Shanghai? I a "Merican" 😀 Question is, is it subtitled? Thats a gamebreaker! 30 episodes of subtitles is 30 episodes too many!
Yes, it's subtitled. But I think you would like it. All sorts of shenanigans going on, especially in the last five or six episodes.

Unless it is a very captivating 1.5 to 2 hour movie like City of God or Cell 211 I aint got no time for subtitles. I pretty much universally despise subtitles. I prefer watching to reading 😀
