Just got back from mom's 80th Birthday "party." She'd going through chemo right now, so it was just family, and masked except when we ate cake and ice cream. The travel was a PITA, but it was still amazingly worth it.
My sister and her kids were going to be the only ones coming over, but we surprised her with my wife and I flying out as well, and she was *very* surprised, and very glad to see us. Just the look on her face when we came in made the whole trip worthwhile.

I’ve had your book on my mind. After all the time and care you put into it, I was wondering how it’s been received now that it’s been out for a bit.

I'm not sure how it's being received. I've heard nice things from a couple of colleagues, but it takes months for anything to come out in academic journals, even once the review is written, and I don't know if anyone is working on one. Heck, it doesn't even have any Amazon reviews yet. The only thing I know so far is that it sold better than Amazon figured it would at first, as they had to order more copies from my publisher.
I'd love to incorporate chapter one into a course on piracy, privateering, and international law, but it's generally frowned upon to assign your own writing. It comes across as a form of self-nepotism, even if you don't charge for it. My frustration is that no one else has really covered that material, so I don't have many options if I want to talk about that subject. We'll see.
On that note, it's on big-time sale at Amazon right now. I just went to see if I was still correct about no reviews (yes), and saw that they have it at a 41% discount at the moment. If anyone's been waiting because of the price, now is a good time.

Zoltan warning - that PLO account is busted, to the good on a withdrawal but I lost whatever strategy nuance/positive variance I had running it up. The downfall is polluted with bad beats and bad play. It's hard to watch these people flop, turn, and river the nuts with top 50% hands over and over and over again and not open the preflop range to try doing the same
