Poker Festival Bans Sunglasses & Masks for $29M GTD High Roller Series

As a player who wears sunglasses when I play live, I would happily give them up to rid the game of all the other stuff people wear now at tables. No more ski neck huggies or grim reaper hoods.

I don't think it's smart to ban masks when we are in the middle of a pandemic. Sunglasses sure, I need to be able to see someone's eyes and those new Meta glasses could be used to cheat at the table.

excellent news. masks don't stop viruses anyway.

Can I borrow your time machine when you're done with it?

I hope the next time you go in for surgery the doctor and nurses do not mask up and cough on you.

I am just curious how deep your idiocy goes. Do you think it worth washing your hands after using the bathroom or does that not matter either?

What is the ruling on standard glasses? They can also contain cameras? How can you ban them without being discriminatory towards those with sight issues?

Cloth surgical masks are designed to prevent the transmission of saliva and mucous, not airborne viral bodies as those have a diameter much smaller than the grids in the mesh--think BBs going through a soccer net... You may want think more carefully before calling someone an idiot when it's you who is mistaken.

Yeah because surgery on an open human body is the same as breathing in public.

But good for you still being cautious about Spanish flu, Swine flu, SARS, etc. You can never be too careful, ever, ever, ever.

Read my post in the context of what I was replying to.

The poster said masks do not stop viruses. Period.

Do you agree or disagree with that statement?

The good ol mask debate, reminds me of old times

Reasonable point. Either way, its a step in the right direction and hopefully the WSOP is next up.

Ban:
Sunglasses
Masks
Headphones
Phones at the table

If you're afraid of getting sick then you probably should be more concerned about your health than playing in a silly poker tournament.
If you need to use your phone, step away from the table.

I heard someone ask a tournament director about this subject. I think it was during a WPT event, but the tournament director wasn't Matt Savage.

Anyway this particular TD said their rule is that part of your face has to be visible. You could wear a hoodie and sunglasses, but not a hoodie, sunglasses and mask. Or you could wear a mask and hoodie, but not a mask, hoodie and sunglasses. He said two of three is allowed but not all three.

That seemed reasonable enough to me. Completely banning masks and sunglasses might be a little extreme. There are people who need glasses to see and some groups with compromised immune systems who choose to wear a mask to try to protect against viruses.

It doesn't seem right when people cover their entire faces so they're just looking out of a tiny eyehole though.

Agree with both of these points.

I think this is fair.

And @ejames, if I ever go fishing you are invited and I will split the profits 70-30 in your favour given your extraordinary ability to catch them without too much bait.

What about Smart Watches?

Well, to me piling on about "well if youre going to ban this why not that?" Is not a good precedent. You have to start somewhere and those i listed seem the best place to start.

I guess youre insisting smart watches can be used the same as phones and are also ways to cheat? Im not 100% sure of their capabilities today
