President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

President Donald Trump said he would not use force to acquire Greenland, his clearest statement yet ruling out the use of military might to annex the Arctic island.

That speech is the most embarrassing episode in modern US history. He confused Iceland with Greenland. Howled about his election defeat five years ago. Made multiple bigoted comments.

Probably best for you to keep quiet about it.

Yes.Tardos in thread had a map with conclusions on it that they jumped to due to massive TDS. Trump never said he'd use force, and here he is clearly confirming that for the fudsters.Of course, he could be lying and Bombs Over Greenland are imminent. Sick bluff to get the 25 soldiers NATO militaries that have been sent to defend Greenland off guard. Also, “All the United S

Trump obviously was dangling the use of force over the last several weeks. He is free to walk that back, but it doesn't change his past statements. You pretending it does is complete horseshit.

If he isn't going to use force, then he might as well quit complaining about how he wants Greenland to be part of the U.S. I see no evidence that Greenland (or Denmark) wants Greenland to become part of the U.S.

The Polymarket odds on NATO don't mean much to me. The risk that NATO literally is dissolved or that the U.S. literally withdraws is probably fairly low. The United States doesn't have much incentive to actually withdraw, and Europe has a lot of incentive to hold on until 2028 unless Trump does something incredibly provocative, probably more provocative than simply declaring that Greenland is part of the United States.

But as chez has pointed out, at the end of the day, the piece of paper is less important than the cooperation that it implies. The cooperation could drop precipitously, even if the piece of paper nominally survives.

When I say that Trump might kill NATO, I am talking more in practical terms than formal terms.

Western Europe seems to be waking up to the reality that the U.S. is no longer a reliable ally. If you are a head of state in Europe, the problem isn't that Trump will remain in office indefinitely. The problem is that the U.S. has proven that it is a country that is capable of repeatedly electing someone as unstable and erratic as Trump. Wiping away that reputation is more likely to be measured in decades than years.

right, it was so awful when Trump blew up the pipeline providing affordable gas to Europe.

It hasn’t been a reliable ally since WW2.

He made some vague statements that some implied he said he would use force. He never said that, but sure I could see how you could think that.

The more troubling part is then also jumping to the conclusion that he would in fact use force.

Now we're at the point where he specifically says he won't use force. And instead of TDSers being happy about that, they say well we can't trust what he says, what about the Epstein files, he's a Russian asset, etc etc.

If Trump says/implies something that aligns with Lib narrative: everyone look at what Trump says he'll do. Omg omg.

If Trump says something contrary to their fud: it doesn't matter what he says, we can't trust him.

Can't win, the TDS trenches are too dug in and fortified.

Yes, it is a hilarious speech. It's objectively funny by how many errors he made. The point is he said he wouldn't use force on Greenland, but you can point to all his errors instead if that's your preferred way to analyze the speech.

kind of karma the eu is getting butt ripped by trump now. they stood idle when he broke his word/tradedeal and threatened to annex canada like 15 times. now hes breaking his tarrif deal with and threating to annex greenland and instant emergency meeting. They are pretty weak sadly

Some astounding gymnastics here, housenuts.

What's with Macron and the aviator glasses did his wife cold cock him again?

I never jumped to that conclusion. I have said repeatedly that if Europe holds firm, then Trump probably won't use force.

You are one of the better ones here Rococo. I enjoy your posting and demeanor. Although I quoted your post, it wasn't necessarily directed at you. General lib logic was that he'd use force because he said he would. Allegedly.

It hasn’t been a reliable ally since WW2.

Reliable doesn't mean that Western Europe has always approved of U.S. policy. It means that U.S. behavior was relatively predictable and the variance from administration to administration, especially as it related to policies that directly affect Western Europe, was relatively minor. The U.S. government is now capricous and unpredictable, which is harder to deal with if you are a European head of state.

Trump doesn't have to take Greenland by force in order for this to be a complete shitshow. Starting a totally unnecessary and economically destructive trade war with Europe because you are mad that Europe isn't supporting your attempt to seize Greenland is also the height of idiocy.

Can you imagine being the level of naive it requires to still believe every word out of trumps mouth?

Relax guys, he said he's not gonna do project 2025.

[strike]I hope so.[/strike] It's certainly possible.

I don't understand the Greenland thing. I'm sure Denmark would let the US build whatever base they want on the island if they just asked before all this bs. Would be a good boost for the local economy.
Not great having a bunch of bored US soldiers around but I'm sure a deal could have easily been worked out.

The hubris to post like this while the Danish government deploys troops to Greenland

Your orange overlord has cut your networth by like 25% and you still think you are winning by trolling the threads. Its certainly a choice

At least we are all unburdened by what hasn't been. We all really dodged a bullet, or thats what all the misogynistic racists tell me

He just wants another thing to stamp a gold-plated TRUMP sign onto.

Guys like housenuts are in too deep and simply too stubborn to even consider backtracking at this point. Just look at geezer, the idiot says he'd still vote the same way every time.

The U.S. already has a large military presence in Greenland. It isn't about security.

Oh look, an actual comment from Trump about using force in Greenland. President Donald Trump said he would not use force to acquire Greenland, his clearest statement yet ruling out the use of military might to annex the Arctic island.“We probably won’t get anything unless I decide to use excessive strength and force, where we would be, frankly, unstoppable,” Trump said. “But I

This might possibly be true, but assuming, and posting, that ANYTHING this compulsive liar says is actually true is pathetic.
