Yes reworking the Nit-tastic tales is the way to go. Man I feel you don’t need some type of major plot point to tie everything together. As I mentioned I just read Suttree which feels like essentially a collection of random short stories with a revolving cast of characters. You really could do something similar.

I suppose the main thing that ties Suttree together is Suttree and him being a likeable person but with his faults. Liked by the writer, the people around him but he doesn’t like himself.

I worked Friday night, looking for whales at the poker table, and finding none. I was hoping for a transfer to a better table, but my table was consistently shorthanded for the night, and they don't transfer from shorthanded tables, so that was a bit frustrating. -$120 over 3.5 hours.

Fortunately, I was lucky on the slots: +$630 over 3.5 hours. I had competition for the bartops from a reg, but he disappeared after checking only a few machines. I found him later, sitting at a Rich Little Hens game, pulling out more money and looking frustrated, with the red Free Games hen grown up into the high 30s. The game is a play when the red hen hits around 20, and from my experience the regular slot lines don't pay out nearly as much as their predecessor Rich Little Piggies do, so I'll guess that he was in for a few hundo, growing the red hen, but not getting anything back for it.

I've been in that spot often enough that I don't even bother with Rich Little Hens any more. I believe that the slot maker recognized that players loved Rich Little Piggies, so they decided to make an inferior sequel that would just take players' money until they smartened up and stopped playing, sort of a correspondent to all the good things on the Internet that have become enshittified in the interest of quick profits and maximizing shareholder value.

Yesterday and today have been snow days here in Massachusetts, and I stand by my maxim of: If it's snowin', I ain't goin'.

I've always believed that story comes from the characters, so I'm not going to plot it out so much as I'll watch what happens.

Big Lebowski is so great. I think I was only of the only people that saw it multiple times at the movies. Had a friend who was an usher in high school and he’d get me in for free. I’m active on the Lebowski subreddit. It’s great as people basically post or often repost things that are vaguely Big Lebowski related and it’s just comments of people using quotes from the film.

Here's the current Media Bucket List. Shows with asterisks are in rotation now, with the total number of seasons in parentheses, then the season and episode# that I've gotten to next to them.

I have a second tier list below which I rotate through as well, after I watch a set number of first tier shows. Apologies to FWWM for putting Babylon 5 and Twin Peaks in the second tier, but I am getting through them, albeit slowly.

Fallout is currently my favorite show. As a fan of the games, I think they've made the perfect adaptation so far. Hopefully, the quality doesn't trail off in future seasons as so many other great shows have.

As far as the movies go: I have gotten through most of the classics, so the list now has more personally missed, quirky or underrated offerings, along with a few promising-looking new titles. Dreamcatcher is none of those, but I haven't seen it yet, and it might be good for a laugh.

Speaking of Stephen King: I read through a best-to-worst list of all of his books and found three titles that I may not have read, based on their reviews in the list. It's just as possible that I read them and forgot them, but I have claimed in this thread that I've read all of the man's books, so I'm going to be thorough and put them on the list.

I noticed Killing Eve as I scrolled by. First two seasons quite good, then off the rails.

Would switch Bab 5 with The 100 w.r.t. tier list. And I wouldn't bother with much more than the first season of the 100; the premise is kinda interesting but it soapifies after a while.

My friend Will liked that show a lot. I will get to it at some point this year.

I'm still waiting for Babylon 5's overarching story to kick in, as that is what all the fans always crow about, then I'll probably add it to the main queue.

So many episodes, though. I know it was standard for the time for US productions to do 20+ episodes/year, but I've grown used to the streaming era's 8-12.

A girlfriend back in college was a huge fan of the movie and recommended it to me many times, and I stayed away from it out of sheer orneriness and passive aggression. It's high time that I saw it.

Sherlock? The one with Derelict Bandersnatch in the title role? I've seen a few episodes; it looks good. I'll add it.

I saw Lost when it came out, along with the Battlestar Galactica reboot. I enjoyed Lost, and I was okay with the ending. There's no way the showrunners would be able to answer questions they were just making up as they went along, so they went for emotional impact at the end, and I think it worked well enough.

That's intriguing.

In spite of my recent posts, I was tempted back to the poker tables by a special one-day $1500/hour high hand promotion.

I didn't hit it, and I made nothing while sitting around swapping blinds and paying rake with the nits, but I stayed for a couple of hours after the promo ended and took $160 from the remaining degens. I made another $28 from a fairly picked-over slot floor.

Some of the story has already kicked in, but you might have not noticed it yet, some things may seem isolated at that point. The show has a lot of episodes per season and not all episodes are great, that is a fair critique. There are some episodes in every season that are kind of Wesley Crusher'ish if you know what I mean.

As far as Twin Peaks is concerned, I mean you can give it a big break after season 2, and then at some point watch season 3, that way you get a very OG experience, that's how it was for everyone that had watched it earlier.

And as far the Big Lebowski is concerned that is ofc an original masterpiece, any attempt to copy it in some form will probably fail.

i live next to where twin peaks was filmed, been meaning to watch it a bunch anyway but now more than ever

throw peep show onto the list - one of the best sitcoms ever that never made it big across the pond (takes a few episodes to get a feel for it - everything is first person perspective so it's a little weird getting used to the format at first but soon everything just clicks naturally

Why do we say "If that were the case?" There's no subject/verb agreement.

Added to the long list, so it may be a while. I'm not a fan of cringe humor (c.f. the dustbinning of The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm) but the Brits seem to do it better. I liked the original UK version of The Office, so their cringe humour seems somewhat bettter.

I'm watching Filthy Rich and Catflap now, which is basically Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson playing the same characters they played in The Young Ones and Bottom. Nigel Planer, who played dirty downer hippy Neil in The Young Ones, here plays a high-pitched, sleazy grifter, which is a fun change.

I'm also gonna suggest Mr Inbetween. Aussie criminal drama. Shortish, I think three seasons.

All right. It's on the long list. I'm not a huge fan of crime stuff, but I've made exceptions before—like The Sopranos—and shortish is good.

Slim pickings on the slots the last 2 days, -$60 over 5 hours. I'll play some poker today and tomorrow ahead of the coming Snowpocalypse on Sunday.

The Patriots are playing in Denver then, as they just missed home field advantage throughout the playoffs, otherwise it would have been an interesting game in Foxboro.

If it's any consolation, they're predicting ~29 and light snow in the second half last I saw.

As much as I'd like to see the Broncos win for my friends out here, I can't see NE losing with Stidham at QB for Denver. Nothing against him, just lack of experience.

Our QB is 23 and in his 2nd year in the NFL, with no playoff experience before this year. He's performed admirably so far, but the sample size is small for a number of variables.

Should be a good game.

Currently 12 degrees in BFE west Texas and we got about 2 inches of sleet overnight. I don't know if this is for the whole country, but the guys on the radio said this storm was named Fern, which I found amusing. I didn't know we were naming winter storms now.
