Bad Coaching Thread: Fat Mike will look less fat in Black and Gold but will Suck the Same
Here's the last line from the box score of yesterday's Loiusville - Kentucky game.
UK TD 0:28
STEVE JOHNSON 57 YD PASS FR
FWIW graded bets typically report away score before home score.
1. 4th and 15 at KC 36, down 19 10:00, Tomlin elects to go for 1st down instead of kicking FG. Play turns into false start, 4th and 20 fail.
2. 4th and 2 at PIT 25(?) down 19 6:00 (3 TOs), Tomlin elects to punt.
#1 could be a go with a decent mobile QB but their chances of getting 1st down there are almost certainly < 10% . I don't know the b/e success rate that makes it a go, but assuming Boswell is 75% there I'd put it around 20%. Basically down 16 means you only need 2 scoring drives. Failing on 4th down means you need 3 scoring drives when you are getting the ball back with around 6:00. And even if you hit the 10% 1st down you still have 20 yards to get a TD.
#2 is just plain dumb.
Honorary bump for Fat Mike leaving the Cowboys
He is clearly the all-time star of this legendary thread

LOL
4th and 2 down 3 and for 20 seconds Brady kept calling for a timeout cuz 12 men were on the field on defense
The lions sideline was screaming for someone to get off the field. The commanders even took the play clock down to 1
Dan Gamboooooool was the only person on earth to not realize what has happening
Penalty. First down. Touchdown. Season over
This is your king?
My calcs show that mess cost DET about 25% in win equity.
I'm assuming WAS scores TD 50% if no penalty, 90% with the penalty.
didn't watch, anyone got a clip?
At this point, it blows my mind that every NFL teams doesn't have a Tush-push package. If your quarterback can't/won't/ isn't alowed to do it , then have a big ball carrier hike the ball in those situations.
Every 2nd and 4, 3 and 3, 4 and 1 should be (almost always) auto-first downs
yeah I can't imagine its that difficult to learn how to snap a ball.
I might have been the only idiot watching Jets/Broncos Sunday morning. Besides the chef's kiss -10 net passing yard performance by the Jets, the game featured these gems by Aaron Glenn:
--Running a fake punt on 4th & 1 around their own 35 with just over 1:00 to go in the 2nd (why not, you're 0-5), succeeding, and then...proceeding to leisurely call two more run plays, leading to a spot where they eventually got stuck in no man's land with another 4th down, and all stood around and let the half expire (they were in HM range at the end but didn't even bother to take their .1 points of equity by trying to launch one).
--Burning a TO on 4th & 1 in the 4Q when the play clock was expiring as they were lining up to go for it, and then...punting.

I was another idiot watching the game but I had to turn it off in the third before I broke something.
Having Bo Nix take a ten step drop into the endzone resulting in a safety from a holding call was idiotic.
The fake punt by the Jets didn't fake out anybody. They almost didn't get it.
omar chilly carved up by joey flacbert in the year of our lord 2025
I was only paying attention on my phone but I couldn't believe the update when they punted there. Glad they did not win on that decision alone.
I like bumping this thread so I'll lol at the Texans punt as an excuse to do it
What was the deal with McVay calling a run on 3rd and 7 with 2:07 left in regulation? The 2MW was gonna happen during the punt even if the play doesn't take 7 seconds, so you literally gain nothing clock-wise by running there, and the play had ~0 chance of going for a first down.
