Somehow threads merged, so here's part 4 of our ongoing movie discussion.
Excuse me while I whip this out…

As Mel Brooks goes nothing beats Young Frankenstein for me, but that comes close.
What hump?

walk this way...
The Producers, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein is a helluva run
and as a kid, I loved Silent Movie, High Anxiety, and History Of the World just as much. Great run.
And then later, Space Balls and To Be Or Not To Be
I just finished One Battle After Another. It's a great movie, (great as agitprop too) but I find its underlying ideas particularly odious. I view it as a kind of Birth of a Nation for lefties.
I don't really watch movies anymore but I happened to see Aguirre the Wrath of God the other day and was utterly spellbound from the first frame to the last.
It reminded me that if you have chaos within you it is still possible to give birth to a dancing star.
Frankenstein (2025)
I found this merely so-so/okay. It looks great, but I found its first half kinda dull and boring, but it picked up in its second half, telling the creature's side of the story. I like del Toro overall, but found this one of his weaker offerings and prefer the Kenneth Brannagh adaptation.
True Lies (1994)
Hadn't seen this in years and caught it on tv the other night and it's still great fun, with some kickass action and great set pieces. Jamie Lee is surprisingly funny in it and Bill Paxton is hilarious, stealing the show as a car salesman sleazeball.

lol you probalby think All the President's Men is a leftist screed on illegally taking down a great president.

Lol, speaking of said president, I was actually kinda surprised that Oliver Stone of all people portrayed Nixon in a somewhat kinda-sorta sympathetic light or at the very least, didn't turn him into a caricature villain.
I've watched so many movies lately that I can't keep track of them all. So many on Criterion and other streaming services as well as a few in theaters.
Watched Misercordia the other day by Alain Guiraudie. I avoided his films because I really don't care to watch gay sex, but this one was tame. Interesting film about a murder and the investigation into the murder. Features a widow of the guy's former mentor, her son, a gay priest, the local police, and other assorted characters. Set in a small village in France.
I really like The Shrouds. Not exactly typical of Cronenberg, but I'm not convinced he makes typical films even for him.
I liked Bugonia, but wasn't overwhelmed by it. Great performance by Jesse Plemons.
One Battle After Another was terrific.
Started Eddington and almost gave up on it. Glad I didn't.
The Lost Bus on Apple was excellent. It's about a school bus driver rescuing kids from a California wild fire. Paul Greengrass directs.
Black Bag is excellent. Soderbergh explores trust between a husband and wife through a spy film.
Lost in America by Albert Brooks. Aren't we all lost in America these days?
Highest 2 Lowest from Spike Lee. Nothing special. Watch Kurosawa's High and Low instead.
I'm not sure any of these will stick with me like Perfect Days, Aftersun, and All of Us Strangers did in the past couple years.

Meh. I thought all of the characters were way too cartoonish (and loathesome) especially Penn. Great is not an adjective I would use as it was kind of a chore to get through.
Dude, what are you talking about? Half of your posts don't make any sense.

Need to catch a bunch of these. Did you get to watch one battle in a theater?
Thanks Dom
Marty Supreme.
Edit: I guess the shoe store was a nod to Tarantino, the dog & necklace to Snatch, pawn shop to Trading Places, maternity ward to Once Upon a Time in America…
How did we feel about the soundtrack?
But the ping pong scenes were totally believable if not quite on Color of Money level. How did Rounders mess that up so badly? I saw an old review that called a bad movie with great poker scenes when it’s the exact opposite. But at least in Rounders Worm got the well deserved crap kicked out of him.
By the end of the movie Marty was making Aguirre seem easy to root for imo. Speaking of which, long ago the Herzog-Kinski movies were restored remastered & rereleased in theaters. AWOG was amazing, as was the documentary.

I work in a bar where the owner's son & his friends do open mic standup on Tuesdays- used to be Fridays too. In the past 3.5 years I have been subjected to more open mic standup than anyone in the world who is not involved willingly in the scene.
I saw the trailer for Is This Thing On tonight. It bumped One Battle down to second on the list of movies you'd have to pay me $10K cash to sit through.
