Advice for Vegas Poker tournaments

Advice for Vegas Poker tournaments

Hi,

I am looking for advice for as am visiting Vegas early Dec. I am staying behind the Horseshoe in an apartment. Have 3 days of poker Wed-Friday and am looking to play decent value poker tournaments don't have too quick formats ideally. Am happy to move between different casinos. Ideally buy in between $100-$250 max

Can anyone offer suggestions?

Thanks

Probably Orleans or SouthPoint.

Probably Orleans or SouthPoint.

Yes, Friday Orleans is a deepstack. Turnout might not be great this time of year though. Get there half an hour early so you're not an alternate.

Wynn and Aria Dailies are good too.

I just did a scrub of the dailies for my upcoming trip. Orleans and Southpoint will definitely be better than anything at Caesars/MGM/Horseshoe during the week, which are all hyper turbos.

On strip, Bellagio's daily is a step up with a better structure, though still turbo at 20 minute levels. Same with Aria. Venetian is likely to be running a series at that time, I assume, since Wynn will have WPT going on, but both are worth looking to see what's running the days you're there. And lastly, Resorts World has a $200 daily with 30 minute levels and the best structure at that price point. When I've checked in recent days the turnout has been pretty sparse, though maybe that will be different with WPT in town.

If this will be early Dec during Rodeo, Southpoint as a sponsor might be crazy. Don’t know if it will impact daily tournaments but the hotel/casino/restaurants might be crazy in general.

Orleans also does rodeo stuff that time of year. The advantage there is Orleans is a much shorter drive.

Many casinos do rodeo stuff. But Soutpoint is the official host, SP is an official sponsor, they hold some related events in the SP arena, the nightly Buckle ceremonies are at SP, the Miss Rodeo pageant, SP has the Cinch Western Gift Show, etc.

For South Point it is a little more than "doing stuff". But like I said, I have no clue if it impacts their dailies but I would be surprised if it doesn't. Probably impacts Orleans also because NFR impacts Vegas a lot. Heck it had at least some impact on the cash games at Horseshoe when I was in Vegas during 2024 NFR. (I don't recall impacts at Bellagio or Aria, but wouldn't surprise me.)

Thanks, appreciate your advice. When you say the rodeo may impact, is this in a good way (ie more players, looser) or in a bad way (tournaments cancelled etc)?

I have currently booked to stay in an apartment behind Horseshoe but wondering if I should relocate to Orleans.

Orleans used to do similar. There were 2 rodeo "things" close together on the calendar. I don't know if that's still the case. I used to travel to Vegas the first week of December every year, but I don't do that since I moved. I don't know what the Orleans situation wrt rodeos is any more.

go to pokeratlas, look up Vegas tournaments, and you should get a pretty comprehensive list and schedule of every tournament scheduled for each day. this also shows structure and buy in amount.

I doubt the receipt cancels SP tournaments but I don’t do tournaments. Whether the rodeo makes any of the dailies better or worse, no idea really. But I expect if they end early enough, the runners increase.

As to moving to Orleans, not sure what your optionality would be. I do hear Orleans has better dailies than on the strip, at least better than central strip where horseshoe is.

Orleans would be about as close to Southpoint as Horseshoe in case you play there. Obv. further from north strip where Wynn, RW, Venitian are.

Probably depends on prices, your ability to travel in Vegas, tournaments you decide to enter, etc. As others have shared, go to poker atlas and look at the dailies listed. Doubt there are major changes now until Dec unless there is a big series then. Again tournaments are not me so I have no clue on those details

Wat? No, South Point is 6 miles down the freeway. Orleans is on Tropicana, one exit south of Flamingo, where Horseshoe is.

Horsehoe to south point is 8.1 miles
Orleans to Southpoint is 7.9 miles

So yes the Orleans is about the same distance to Southpoint as Horseshoe to Southpoint. Slightly closer

So yes “Orleans would be about as close to Southpoint as Horseshoe is”

The point being if the decision is either playing at SP or Orleans, moving to the Orleans woul me@n the same or less travel distance. The same if op plays at SP. much less, as in none, it it is Orleans.

If he moves to the Orleans, there's no need to go to South Point. From a practical standpoint, South Point is the same as the Orleans. They're even designed the same, having been owned by the same owner when they were built.

the properties are run completely different... and the poker rooms aren't comparable imho. SP is one of the best run rooms in Las Vegas... perhaps not the most 'upscale', but extremely well run.

Just play the Aria daily.

Question regarding "time to cash" in the morning tournies. I am going to LV next week with my daughter who is working (one of the conventions). Anyway, my plan is to play poker and such during the day, and then we will be having dinner/show plans and the like. I have been to South Point in the past, and really like their room, but just trying to figure out

1. if I run well at the 10:10am tourny on a Monday or Tuesday morning, when does it end (or get chopped) usually. By 2p or 3pm, or later??

2. Also, I am interested in the Sunday Chip/Chop 2:10pm, which looks like ends at a solid 5pm regardless. Anyone play it and like it?

Have played the 10:10am tourney a couple of times; always fun and the competition is very strange to put it mildly 😀 My guess is that it ends around 3pm, as I remember having been eliminated around 2pm a couple of times (last 20 players or so). By then the blinds are pretty crazy.

Have not tried the chip chop one, but from memory that is only 15 min blinds compared to 20 min in the 10am. So that one should be a pretty quick affair, yes.
