life expectancy in China doubled under Mao

I had another look and I had a cup of tea
And a butter pie (a butter pie?)
(The butter wouldn't melt, so I put it in the pie, alright?)

DORAL, Fla. (AP) — A U.S. Navy admiral who oversees military operations in Latin America handed off command responsibilities Friday as scrutiny increases over the Trump administration’s deadly strikes on alleged drug boats in the region.

Adm. Alvin Holsey has retired one year into a posting that typically lasts three to four years and transferred leadership duties to his top military deputy, Air Force Lt. Gen. Evan Pettus, during a ceremony at U.S. Southern Command headquarters near Miami.

Deport 'em all!!!!

I'm grateful, now get the hell out!

Magaziner said Park is a Purple Heart recipient who was shot twice while serving with the U.S. Army in Panama in 1989, who was deported to Korea by the Trump administration.

"Like many veterans, he struggled with PTSD and substance abuse after his service," Magaziner said. "He was arrested in the 1990s for some minor drug offenses, nothing serious. He never hurt anyone besides himself, and he's been clean and sober for 14 years."

When asked if she would thank Park for his service, Noem responded to the congressman, "Sir, I'm grateful for every single person that has served our country and follows our laws."

Not for the people he killed.

For those that survived ….

Like an idiot tv commentator said lately, we should killed all homeless people .
Then someone come in saying:
“See how great trump is, poverty went down “ , disregarding how many homeless people end up dead .

Do you guys not understand how life expectancy works?

Do you guys not understand how life expectancy works?

Which country didn’t had a life expectancy increase during that period ?

AI

Global life expectancy has dramatically increased since 1940, rising from around 47 years in 1950 to over 70 years by 2020-2022

Thx mao , you elevated worldwide life expectancy despite killing 20+ millions of your own people .

No genocide there !

You aren't making sense.

by Victor

You aren't making sense.

Of course for you !

20+ millions Chinese killed, no genocide
Couple tens thousands Palestinians killed, genocide by the U.S. .

20 million killed (allegedly) or really died in a famine. remember that famines in the West are never the fault of the leaders. and are never intentional. only for the evil others. but pretty amazing that life expectancy doubled despite this.

The point is that all countries had a similar increase in life expectancy during that time, so you’re not comparing counterfactuals, and likely attributing advances to China’s life expectancy falsely.

Those life expectancy numbers are somewhat misleading anyway since they include infant mortality.

Here’s the same life expectancy numbers in Palestine, which shows that since 1950 life expectancy has gone hugely up. I guess we can attribute their increase in life expectancy to Israel, right?

according to your graphs, Palestine went from from 46 to 59 in the 1950 to 1975 stretch. China went from 44 to 61. thats a lot better! also, what was life expectancy in 1945? why skip those 5 years?

That’s literally when the numbers start you dingus. I wonder what happened in 1949 that would make the UN start counting Palestinian demographics.

And it’s not that much of a W to compare yourself slightly favorably to one of the most war torn countries in the world. lmao

Funny how mainland China's present life expectancy is only 78, on a par with Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina, while Hong Kong, where the elderly spent most of their lives under British rule, is way up at 85, just ahead of Japan.

Not odd at all when you consider how many poor rural people are included in the mainland data set.

Shanghai's is 84.

I was extremely conservative with 20 millions so its far from being allegedly.

Under the leadership of Mao Zedong, it is estimated that between 40 million and 80 million Chinese people died from 1949 to 1976. The vast majority of these deaths were not from direct executions, but rather from a massive, man-made famine during the Great Leap Forward, alongside widespread political violence and social upheaval during the Cultural Revolution.
1. The Great Chinese Famine (1958–1962)
The single largest cause of death under Mao was the Great Chinese Famine, which killed an estimated 15 to 55 million people (most commonly cited at around 30 million). This disaster was primarily caused by the radical economic policies of the Great Leap Forward:
Forced Collectivization: Peasants were forced into massive "People's Communes" and stripped of private plots and cooking utensils. Food was served in communal mess halls, leading to rapid depletion of grain supplies.
Diversion of Labor: Millions of farmers were ordered to stop harvesting and instead produce "native iron" in backyard steel furnaces. This iron was often unusable, and the abandoned crops rotted in the fields.
Pseudoscience and Misguided Techniques: Policies like "close planting" (planting seeds too densely) and "deep plowing" were mandated based on Soviet quackery, which actually killed crops and ruined soil fertility.
The "Eliminate Sparrows" Campaign: To protect grain, Mao ordered the killing of sparrows. This caused locust populations to explode without their natural predators, leading to massive crop destruction.
Exaggerated Reporting: Local officials, fearing punishment for failing to meet unrealistic quotas, reported record-breaking "miracle" harvests. The state then seized huge portions of actual grain based on these fake figures, leaving the peasants to starve.
Continued Exports: Even at the height of the famine, the Chinese government continued to export grain to the Soviet Union and other allies to "save face" and pay off debts.
2. Political Violence and Persecution
Beyond famine, millions died due to direct state-sponsored violence or brutal living conditions in labor camps:
The Cultural Revolution (1966–1976): Aimed at purging "class enemies" and "capitalist roaders," this decade of chaos resulted in 500,000 to 2 million deaths. Victims included teachers, intellectuals, and party officials who were publicly humiliated in "struggle sessions," beaten, murdered, or driven to suicide by Red Guards.
Land Reform and Early Campaigns (1950s): During the early 1950s, Mao launched campaigns to eliminate the "landlord class" and other political opponents. Estimates for deaths during these periods range from 1 to 5 million.
The Laogai System: Mao established a vast network of forced labor camps (Laogai). It is estimated that millions died in these camps due to overwork, starvation, and disease.

But I guess its a great way to see history .
Communism was amazingly benevolent and successful despite killing tens of millions of people , its not genocide.
The US sold couple guns to Israel -> the US is horrible they are responsable for Palestinian genocide even tho Israel did the killing , couple tens of thousands .

And we aren’t Even talking about Stalin « great eastern » value too …
Smh .

I mean, 500k in a decade is pretty weak considering how many the US kills by itself every decade. we just watched the Israeli fascists slaughter that many in 2 years.

I was waiting for Victor to come up with some Oh the Life Expectancy of a Palestine is worse

I'm not the one who brought Palestinian life expectancy into this thread. That was someone else who actually helped prove my point.

But yes, the life expectancy drops precipitously in places that the Imperial US sts it's site on.

Uh no, it showed the opposite of helping your point

11 killed in Bondi Beach shooting, one of the gunmen also killed, with another in custody in critical condition, attack classed as terrorist attack on Australia's Jewish community

What ?
There isn’t 100k yet in Palestine after 2 years , lower then the 500k in China which was the lowest number expectation that could easily be 2X greater …..

And beside that , if it’s just time that matters and not the number of death well you got a funny way to show how you care so much about human life .
