that looks like a lot of pizza - I reckon if I ate that many carbs on dinner break of an mtt, I'd be very sleepy afterwards
(although I do also see that full freight coke which might have helped keep you awake!)
Is the pizza as good as it looks?
Borgata Fall Poker Open
Day Eight - Monday November 10th
Last day today and a busy morning. Got in a workout in the gym and a swim before walking across the field to Harrahs again as I had some more tickets to cash. It wasn’t a pleasant walk today. Temperature has dropped to only 50 degrees and with the wind feels much colder.
This shot is actually from Friday during the TORSE tournament and I forgot to post it, but it gives a nice picture of the tournament room when it’s busy.
Today’s tournament is PLO Mix which is PLO, PLO8 and Big O.
We picked up a few stragglers who thought it was just PLO or a PLO/NLH mix. A couple un-registered when they found out but a couple of them did stay and try it.
I’d increased steadily from the 30k starting stack to 80k at the end of late reg, then in level 9 I got 3/4 of a big 3-way pot when all the money went in on the flop.
I had A2 and top set against another A2 and the straight. We filled up on the turn. [emoji3]
That propelled us to 174k on dinner break at the end of level 12 with 12 players remaining. Avg. is 105k. Going back to 3k/5k/5k
It doesn’t take long after dinner to reach the final table of 8. We’ll start it with 160k which is bang on average.
It also looks very much like a re-run of last night. Greek Phil is here (full name Filippos Stavrakis) and Tim Faro who was also part of the chop last night is here again. Phil’s a really good guy and fun to play with, always talking and we banter and jibe one another back and forth.
Level 16: 5k/10k/10k 6 players left. Avg. Is 210k we have 220k
180k on break at end of level 16. I’m 4th out of 6 in chips.
Level 17: 6k/12k/12k
I’m short now. All my opens are getting 3-bet and I have to fold and I’m whiffing the flops that I do see.
I open in PLO8 with AKQ4 and get one caller.
Flop: J-8-8
Whiffed again but the caller checks. We go all-in with air for 50k which is nearly pot and villain folds.
Level 18: 8k/16k/16k
I knock out 6th place and back up to 150k. Avg. Is 250k
Then playing PLO villain opens UTG for 35k and it’s folded round to us on the big blind.
We look down to see AAT6 and 3-bet to 105k
Villain decides he wants to gamble and goes all-in for 150k which we obviously call. We have very similar stacks.
Villain has T987 which is a decent hand to take on Aces. Our ten and six are actually useful cards for him so it’s good to have those as blockers. Can we hold?
Regular readers will know that I don’t hold in these spots and sure enough, villain flops gin [emoji30]
There’s no miracle 9 for a chop or runner-runner boat and we head to the payout window.

I know it’s only 62 - 38 but why does it seem I’m 10-90 in these spots?

GG and UL! All we can do is put ourselves in good spots and hope the cards hold up in crucial situations.
Which calculator are you using to calculate the odds btw? Bart Hanson is currently raving about one named 'Poker Geek Odds Pro', which apparently offers calculations for all the niché games that you are playing. So if you are not using that one already, you should probably check it out 😀

(Probably just me, but thought it was interesting the straight chop in the first tourney was $3500 when 8 players were still left, but "only" $5k when down to 4).
Yeah I read that. Just thought the 8-way chop was pretty generous overall. Was virtually third place IIRC.

Yes the even chop with 8 left would have been $3,500 so almost 3rd place money. Not sure if that’s generous or not. Never done a chop with that many players. There’s normally always some short stacks that everyone wants to see get eliminated before people start asking for chops.

Widest chop I've done was 6, it was even because the blinds were big enough we were passing the same sized pot around the table. The chipleader was always whoever won the last pot.

Back home now in Medellin. Flight times are always bad for me to and from AC. 05:45 flight this morning via Orlando this time, or as the pilot called it, the house of the mouse [emoji23]

Back in form after firing 6 blanks at the Wynn. I have to be happy with a 1st, a 3rd in a chop and a 5th. Smaller fields mean smaller prize pools but not much I can do about that.
Cash Games
Played 13 hours over two losing sessions for a loss of -$5,900
Variance rears it’s ugly head. In the game I crushed last time out, I could not win a pot this time, but as Teddy KGB might say I’m still up over $10k from the last time that I stuck in it them [emoji23]
Expenses
Flights: $598
Hotel: $1,116
Not sure why the hotel was so expensive in November. Just looking now at January in case I decide to go back and I have pretty much all comp nights for the whole month through MGM Rewards.
Overall Result
Poker netted out at +$2,065 which barely covers the expenses, but sports betting chipped in with another +$2,000 so the trip wasn’t a complete loss, but not as profitable as I was hoping.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Poker Open
Day One - Tuesday November 18th
Travel day, and a much more palatable flight itinerary this time. We’re flying with Copa as I had miles to spend and well, because their check-in girls are the friendliest. After not too much effort we secured exit row seats.
It’s been a while since I flew Copa and unfortunately it seems they’re not much of a step up from Spirit these days.
I don’t expect anything on the short 50 minute hop from Medellin to Panama, but a 3 hour international flight from Panama to Fort Lauderdale doesn’t warrant a hot meal anymore?
Pizza flavored bread sticks was what we got, (really Copa? you used to be a classy airline) and no alcoholic drinks available, only soft drinks, juice or water. The lady across the aisle from me had the right idea. I caught her discreetly emptying a miniature vodka into her coke. Now why didn’t I think of that?
The flight was otherwise uneventful and we breezed through immigration declaring our excess currency without any fuss and were soon at our regular home here, Staybridge Suites.
Although the Rock ‘n’ Roll Series runs until December 2nd we’ll only be here until Thanksgiving to give ourselves a little break before the Bahamas. And with the NLH Mystery Bounty in the Bahamas in mind I’ll be firing at least a couple of two-card bullets here as practice along with my usual fun mixed events schedule.
My schedule looks like this:

Looking back to my trip report from this time last year, I described the pool as icy, but that was In the morning.
It’s a beautiful November late-afternoon in South Florida, the temperature is in the 80’s, the sun’s been on the pool all day, it’s can’t still be icy can it? I dive in at the deep end …….. it bloody well can be and is. I can’t think of a better word to describe it. Icy. And it turns out I’m not alone. I’m sharing the pool with this little guy.
I do some lengths then dry off and watch the sun go down.
Looks like this trip will be all work and no play with the Dolphins on a bye this week and I haven’t even heard of any of the artists they’ve got playing at the Hard Rock this time while I’m here so I decide I’m going to indulge a little tonight and have a nice meal and bottle of wine before we get down to work tomorrow.
I walk to the casino. It looks good with the sun going down. One of these things is going to look awesome on the Vegas strip when it’s finished.
For dinner I choose the Italian place, Cipresso.
And go for the veal parm with a bottle of sauv blanc.
I drink about 2/3 of the wine and take the bottle with me for a night cap later.
I pass on the tiramisu for dessert which I remember as being only average from the last time, and instead go for, in my opinion, the best gelato on the circuit.
On deck tomorrow: The Big O doesn’t start until 2pm so I may fire a bullet into the first flight of the NLH opener at 10am first if I’m up early.
