It's hard not to draw to draw a parallel to Gottingen which in the early part of the 20th century was the premiere math and physics institute in the world. The parents and doctors that did it are without a shadow of a doubt deeply conservative/religious - if you knew the first thing about the subject you would know that. FGM has zero input from the child at any point and has zero benefit to the child under any cicumstances. It is exclusively a puritanical thing done by controlling adults as an attempt to reduce sexuality in girls.
