It says a Deckmate 1 was used on an ESPN article. I've already seen the video about how the Deckmate 2 can be hacked, but what is the mechanism for the first version?

Have not read ESPN article but others specifically say DM2. The picture I saw was a DM2 not 1.

Billups had some slick hall of fame moves as a player:

Didn’t read the whole thread but also haven’t really seen anyone else mention that KeyboardMonkey posted on X that he lost $5-10m in these games

I know this can be seen as victim blaming.... but honestly, how thick and naive are you to not catch on that a game like this is rigged after losing for just 1 session. Like Berkey said, if recs in the game are playing like crap and clearly dont know the fundamentals of NLHE but they are still consistently winning big pots, while the professionals in the games are losing, its 100% rigged.

To lose 5-10m you would have to be a regular for a long period.

Can we have less drug paraphernalia terminology nitpicking and more explanation of what, exactly, it even means to be "the Pat McAfee of something"?

if you don't know. you don't know why do you care. if you asked more nicely I could have explained it

I suspect ego played a big part. They make you feel special to be invited to play with these big names and it can be hard for people to turn it down, even if it’s costing them a lot of money. They probably try to rationalize it by saying the recs are just on a good run and variance will even it out soon, so I just have to keep playing.

It’s kinda ironic because the pros just let their ego get in the way and saw a soft game that they would be able to milk some recs out of big bucks, when the scammers were scamming them the whole time to milk them.

1 session is meaningless but yea overtime it's pretty obvious especially when they know other pros who are also getting wrecked.

The thing is most poker pros, especially young gto types have absolutely zero street smarts.

It doesn't even cross their mind to question why they're being invited to a "juicy" game like this.

Actually they probably think that they’re the “celebrity” in the game because OMG they were on some random televised poker game/tournament lol.

Variance is also pretty wild in reality, and it's easy to chalk it up to running bad.

I think a lot of us underestimate how susceptible we are to being cheated. Over the course of a given year I know I get cheated to an extent. I've seen marked cards, mechanics, people palming chips out of pots, etc. That's just the stuff that was obvious enough to catch. All you can really do is try to protect yourself the best you can and don't play in a game if you suspect it's crooked.

Yea but when everyone in your network playing in the same allegedly butter soft game is losing it's more than variance..

And yea I dont play home games these days for a lot of reasons but one of them is it's too easy to cheat. And then even if then game is legit and you just happen to run horrendous it's going to be in the back of your mind you're being cheated and you won't play well anyway.

Wrt Rozier The guy with a $100 million contract risks it all for small payouts relative to his net worth.

Maybe there’s something more to the story

hes from the same sports city and wanted to be a podcaster.... in poker instead of whatever sport that guy played.... that would make him "the pat whatever his name is of poker"

1 session can be quite a bit of hours and even though its technically meaningless in terms of variance I agree with Berkey. You can spot these rigged games from miles away. The combination of being invited for very little reason and bad players winning means 1 session would be more than enough for any thinking person.

Ironically the knowledge of variance and swings is probably exactly why an online shitreg playing live can delude himself into thinking hes not being cheated but just unlucky, while people with street smarts see whats more likely going on fast.

Gotta love how at the 1:30ish mark he's talking about the cheating and is like "is this the loundspeaker one?" and there is a quick/awkward "NO!" and awkward pause...

Like, oh, we aren't suppose to talk about THAT cheating ring, my bad

It does seem hard to imagine how someone could lose ten million in the game without realizing something was up. I guess my point is that if they're not overly obvious about it the cheating could be hard to catch. All it would take is a couple big all ins a night where they make it look like they're semi-bluffing into your set and get there or something. If they occasionally let you have a winning session and don't overdo it I think it would be hard to detect.

Probably just a gut feeling would be your best defense, but who would expect Chauncey Billups to cheat you out of millions in a poker game? I can still barely believe this is reality. The day the story broke and I saw the press conference with Patel on YouTube my first thought was this video has got to be an AI deep fake.

Thank you. I know very little about Pat McAfee. I didn't know if there was something specific about him or his career/show that made him unique, other than I know he dresses extremely casually on his ESPN show.

How does a professional player lose $10 million in a game and not suspect something is going on? Berkey on video 2 years ago said there were people who didn't know how to play going allin with gutshots and hitting.

Would I expect Billips to be in on it ? No.

But if I got invited to some juicy game with NBA players my first reaction would be why? And I'm no high stakes crusher.

I could see someone like Michael Mizrachi being someone these guys actually want to play with. People want to play with the champion and he's gonna get absolutely bombed, hang out with them at strip clubs etc and he happens to be good at poker.

But typical high stakes winning regs? There is no above board reason anyone would want them there and if the game is that good the game runner can always fill the seats.

Why fill it with a high stakes pro when you can have business guys who want to play with NBA players.

I'd just assume I was going to be cheated and Billups is either being cheated as well or he's so bad they don't have to cheat him.

And you're right smart cheaters can make it look good but to doesn't even seem like they made it look good. Someone sending it in with flush draws they know are coming when you have a set 2 pair etc is easy to chalk up to variance .

But Berkey said they didn't even bother to do that. Just sent it in with garbage over and over and always got there.

No clue where keyboard monkey claimed to have lost 5-10 million. My assumption is he wouldn't claim that even if it were true.

Don’t think KBM is a pro, he seems like a crypto rich rec that likes to play poker. In that Dazo interview with Doug Polk it sounded like $500k-1M+ results were normal for a single session, so losing $5-10m doesn’t seem hard to believe when you’re playing 1000/2000 or whatever.

He posted it on X, he may have deleted it but I definitely saw it.

[QUOTE=GreatWhiteFish;59134852]I don't understand why anyone from the NBA would get involved with something like this.

It really depends on what someone like Billups knew. It wouldn't be unusual to see current or former NBA players in a private game. It wouldn't be unusual for those NBA guys to be promoted by the game runner in an attempt to get other rich whales to play. I have no problem believing that Billups took money to play in the game (or had an agreement to have all or part of any losses covered). If we take that fact as a given, then there are three possible scenarios.

1) Billups suspected the game was crooked, but he wasn't told explicitly that it was crooked.

2) Billups knew the game was crooked, but he didn't have a share of the profits from the cheating.

3) Billups knew the game was crooked and was actively participating (or at least sharing in the profits) from the cheating.

4) Mr Billups - Itud be a real shame if something were to happen to one of your kids. Please have a seat in the next game.

really doesn't make sense. why would a guy worth millions get involved with something like this for peanuts

Why would Hugh Grant be with a hooker when he had Elizbath Hurley? It makes 0 sense indeed.
