The reign of Pope Leo XIV
As Leo XIV might well turn out to be a politically relevant Pope, I think his reign warrants its own thread. Here is his Holiness' inauguration speech:
Cliffs:
- Stresses God never abandons the flock.
- Says the conclave felt the Holy Spirit “tune” the cardinals like instruments; accepts the role “with fear and trembling” as a servant, not a boss.
- Frames Peter’s mission in two words - Love and Unity - drawing on John 21 (“Do you love me?”) and insists true authority = self-sacrificing charity, never coercion.
- Warns against a Church that “lords it over” people; calls every baptized person a “living stone” building God’s house together.
- Names today’s wounds: hatred, violence, prejudice, fear of difference, and an economy that exploits the earth and the poor.
- The Church must be a “small leaven” of communion, reaching out to other Christians, other religions, seekers, and all people of goodwill.
- Insists mission means valuing each culture, not feeling superior or hiding in holy huddles; unity should highlight differences, not erase them.
- Closes with a rally call: let the Spirit make us “restless,” become leaven for humanity, and walk together toward God, loving one another.
Thoughts? Our Vatican correspondent Luciom has predicted the short conclave, so maybe he might share some more info from his backchannels?

First foreign leader he met after coronation: Zelensky.
Already talked about the nuclear, traditional family as "the core pillar of society upon which society is built, a mini society in itself" (that's very doctrinal, something catholics said even when they were barred from politics in italy because of the non expedit).
Had the coronation mass in latin
Condemned the "exploitation of the poors" within hours of inauguration.
Several repeated calls for humility, being humble and so on.
Pundits around here are , on the left, wary of the moves toward the center but still hopeful that at least on immigration, because of his background, the pope will deliver massively in favour of their preferences.
On the right, they love how less radically to the left he is vs Bergoglio but they know this isn't going to last because, as above, immigration.
So everyone is basically waiting for the pope first official takes on immigration.
Analysts predict a very centrist "social doctrine of the church" pontificate
Will Italy adopt deep-dish Pizza now?
😮
There's a new boss in town, y'all plebs need to start doing as Leo says now.
Is reign the right word? I don't recall other Popes' tenure being called that. But, maybe I just don't pay enough attention.
How about stint?
Ok the most correct would be "pontificate " I guess; if any mod cares to change the thread title accordingly please feel free, and remember you're doing god's work! 😀

I had to look up what pontificate means:
express one's opinions in a way considered annoyingly pompous and dogmatic.
Looks like it would apply to any of the threads.
How about "Pontificating about the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV"?
good point
So y'all think Leo can reconcile Trump and Musk?

When Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost took the name Pope Leo XIV on May 8, becoming the first American to ascend to the papacy, the world expected headlines. But no one saw this coming: the 267th pontiff has a family tree that links him to some of the most famous names in pop culture—including Madonna, Justin Bieber, and Angelina Jolie.
PL14 and KC3 prayed together today; first time since almost 500 years that the British monarch and the Pope joined in prayer! 😀
