President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
Do you have any claims of times that were generally more peaceful than the last 80 years?
War is one of the most consistent human behaviors throughout all our history
I don't get why the cockwomble is building a ballroom. The current GOP don't look like they have any balls.
They want to have balls. Please support trans.
I get a kick at the outrage over the ballroom but not a peep when Obama spent 370 million on renovations that included converting a tennis court to a basketball court

Umm, the outrage has nothing to do with the money spent. They've said that will be paid by Trump himself and by donations.
The outrage is because Trump is literally demolishing the White House!
Last week he said the building wouldn't be touched. Now it's come out that the entire East Wing is being torn down. It's half gone already!
Oh, but they do plan on seeking proper approval and permits soon!
Well yeah, the base is always going to believe anything they say. They consider themselves freethinkers because they listen to Trump and crew and not news media. They are not big enough to sway elections, so as posed, his hypothesis is correct.
I think the idiot base is nearly everyone who voted for Trump.
I find that more likely than the possibility that many people realize Trump lies and makes empty promises every time he speaks but still voted for him. Or even that they believed that he would improve the economy when he bankrupted casinos and his first term ended with the biggest crash of the economy in 100 years.
the progressive wing of the Dem party is pushing for a guy with a Nazi tattoo that did 3 tours of Iraq/Afghanistan and the went back for a 4th as a mercenary. a guy who has reddit posts supporting the "Indian" and Philippine wars. not to worry, this guy is the too left wing for most Dems so its fine.
the Repubs have group chats deifying Hitler and and rape.
there is no "sides".
Who is this? The only new progressive being pushed that I know of is Mandami in NYC, and I haven't heard of him having anything like this.

Yeah, but you also think nearly everyone who owns a gun has a secret desire to want to kill someone. His approval rating is in the 30's for a reason.
Since you are just repeating things you've said a million times I'm just going to repeat something I've said 2 or 3 times
US Aid is the perfect example of this. Starving kids in Africa receiving aid, even under the assumption of soft power, is certainly better than those kids just starving
Is your stance that kids starving is the same level of "good" as kids not starving?
Nah, he actually wants children to starve. If they weren't starving he'd actually have to think up a new line that can't be crossed.
I get a kick at the outrage over the ballroom but not a peep when Obama spent 370 million on renovations that included converting a tennis court to a basketball court
I couldn't for the life of my understand why on earth a tennis court would have to be converted to a basketball court.
So, I did some quick research which revealed that this horrible devastation to the tennis court involved putting up baskets and drawing some extra lines, so that it could be used both for tennis and basket.
Imagine my surprise when yet another hot take likely consumed on "conservative" social media turned out to yet another half-truth with little connection to reality.
its been all over the news man. like, maybe you arent as informed on this stuff as you think.
Looks like it's been "all over the news" for about 20 hours.
Regardless, I saw a picture of his tattoo and I sure wouldn't have guessed it was any kind of Nazi symbol, and I'm guessing you wouldn't have either. It's a skull and crossbones picture like things that are going up around my neighborhood for Halloween.
Apparently he thought the same thing, and I'm sure it's more likely that he's telling the truth than that he deliberately got that tattoo because he supports the Nazi secret police.
We actually do have people acting like Nazi secret police in my city, sent by a party whose politicians and future leaders talk about how much they like Hitler.
Wouldn't a ballroom be a great idea to host dinners instead of them being hosted at a Trump Hotel ?
One standard for thee none for me
I get how a Canadian might not care about the integrity of the White House since you guys once burned it down, but most Americans don't like the fact that it's being partially demolished to make room for a vanity project planned to be larger than the entire current structure.
Wouldn't a ballroom be a great idea to host dinners instead of them being hosted at a Trump Hotel ?
No, not really. Obama managed to host state dinners without demolishing the White House and billing taxpayers 300 million dollars, too bad we don't have that kind of leadership anymore.
Regardless, I saw a picture of his tattoo and I sure wouldn't have guessed it was any kind of Nazi symbol, and I'm guessing you wouldn't have either.
Uh... no, I recognized it immediately. Maybe you're just poorly informed?

That's not "apparent" at all, you're just speculating. And there's reporting that he did indeed understand the significance of it.

“He said, ‘Oh, this is my Totenkopf,’” the former acquaintance told Jewish Insider recently, speaking on the condition of anonymity to address a sensitive issue. “He said it in a cutesy little way.”
The exchange occurred in 2012 at Tune Inn, a popular dive on Capitol Hill where Platner later worked as a bartender and was a frequent patron while he attended The George Washington University on the G.I. bill, according to the former acquaintance. He would often take his shirt off drinking with friends late at night at the bar, and on at least one occasion had stated he knew what the tattoo represented, the former acquaintance recalled.
Platner gave varying accounts of the image during this time, saying at one point he was aware it was a Totenkopf when he had first gotten the tattoo several years prior and at another time claiming he had not known, according to the former acquaintance.

Who could possibly believe that it would cost $370 million to build a basketball court anyway?
Looks like it's been "all over the news" for about 20 hours.
no, its been going on for like a week. also, comments from his old reddit account have been all over the news concurrently. I seriously dont understand why you repeatedly show your ignorance, then double down on it, and refuse to change your behavior.
its actually surprising how big of a news story this has become.
That was directed to someone other than you, so it's irrelevant whether or not you "recognized" it.
But I hope even you could understand that there are skull and crossbone symbols all over the place, from long before there were Nazis. I associate them mostly with pirates, and I'm certain that would be the most common thing the general public would think.
The wikipedia entry for the symbol says that it has been used by a lot of different groups for different reasons, including as the International hazard symbol to indicate poisonous substances.
But if you want to be proud that you have more knowledge of Nazi symbols than I do, feel free.
Now Pete Hegseth actually does have have a tattoo symbol that I associate with Nazis.

Change my behavior? As in the behavior of discussing this issue?
Honestly, anytime you post something, that makes me determine that it's more likely to be false; it's Bayesian inference based on your history of deliberate lying. I make the same inference based on anything Donald Trump says.
That was directed to someone other than you, so it's irrelevant whether or not you "recognized" it.
Your entire argument was "I didn't know about this thing, so he probably also didn't know about it." It's very relevant for me to point out that your life experience isn't universal, and other people know things you don't know.
But I hope even you could understand that there are skull and crossbone symbols all over the place, from long before there were Nazis
Yes, I am aware of this.
I associate them mostly with pirates, and I'm certain that would be the most common thing the general public would think.
Once again: "I didn't recognize this symbol, therefore I'm certain the general public also wouldn't" doesn't hold up. I could just as well say that I recognized the symbol, therefore I'm certain everyone else would.
But if you want to be proud that you have more knowledge of Nazi symbols than I do, feel free.
Sorry for knowing things about the world that you don't, I guess.
Now Pete Hegseth actually does have have a tattoo symbol that I associate with Nazis.
But it's just a cross symbol! People have cross tattoos all the time! I don't recognize it as a Nazi symbol, so logically I'm certain no one else would.
