The key to understanding them is to stop overestimating them. These people really are just that dumb. OP is not a good city for protests. We hadwhat might be described as a lukewarm rally with a peak of around a 100 people last time. There was a much more energetic crowd this time that numbered over 500, and Me and so and so were asked to leave by the cops. who were carefully monitering the crowd- by opstandards a wild one.

It's amazing how much attention is paid to such a relatively trivial issue. Athletic competition is nowhere near as important an issue as people receiving competent and affordable health care.
And these labels of left and right have become completely detached from the economic policy which gave rise to those labels in the first place. We have two right wing economic parties with some people trying to bend the Democratic Party back toward its historical populist roots which FDR championed nearly a century ago.

Went to the no kings protest today. I would guess there were 50%, maybe higher, more people than the last one. Extremely peaceful. Most of the car traffic was supportive.
Makes me kind of wonder why we can't win elections.

How do you think this issue is even relevant to the presidential race? I think by the 2028 the situation will not be significantly different than it would have if Trump had lost.
