2/5/10: Line check with top two
2/5/10, $1k eff
Loose Asian reg opens UTG to $30, two callers, I defend the straddle w/ KJo.
Flop ($120): J♣ 9♦ 5♠
Villain cbets $50, folds to me, I call.
Turn ($220): 9♠
I check, he bets $100, I call.
River ($420): K♥️
Stacks ~ $850 behind.
What’s best river plan here?
• Check and call a small bet and fold to a bigger bet? Check fold?
• Or blockbet small to target hands like AJ/QQ/TT and avoid facing a big bet, and fold to a raise?
Also, is turn ever a fold to this value looking sizing?

You could lead small with your 9X and I guess with this hand (although I think you shouldnt have KJ here and shouldve folded pre). Vs range smells like JJ, QQ, KK, AA and some KJ but if you say he's loose he can have 9X I suppose, not sure he cbets 9X OTF. Check/call small sizing seems not so good to me as we're usually behind his 3 street hands.
Check/call river unless he bombs it
Also fold or 3bet pre, this hand multiway is trash

If Villain is loose, I definitely would add hands like QsTs to his range. If we check/call small sizing and actually win here, I would expect Villain to show a hand like KQ or maybe AsKs.
I like Bet fold here (assuming we don't think he will bluff raise). I think I go like 175.
And plus one fold pre. I get the odds, but I still think it;s tough to make money here.
goofy spot but V is still uncapped and we have value so just donk small like $175
Fold pre. (Unless they're raising 45%+, in which case I 3b.)
Turn fold isn't completely out of the question, but this size is right about the point I'd have a hard time folding. (Unless they're very aggressive.)
I'd just x/c river. B50-75 lead probably runs pretty close in EV in practice, but it's not enough EV gain for me personally to want to go out of theory for because there are some headaches on that branch.
Pre is whatever, but vs. a loose player I don't mind defending. (BTW, loose aggro, I assume, if he's a "reg.")
I check/call river. Not much he can call with that doesn't have you beat.
Also, betting small looks like a blocker; it'd be sick if he bluff/raised. I'd almost rather bet big if I was going to bet to look bluff-y.
Grunch:
PRE - if you think UTG is opening wide, did you consider squeezing? Seems like a reasonable spot, and probably higher EV than flatting KJo and going four ways to the flop.
FLOP - Is he loose-aggro, or loose-passive? It's starting to matter. If he's LAG, I think I might go for a x/r here. If he's passive, flatting to see what he does on the turn seems okay.
TURN - I think we could donk here. We can target his worse pairs and his draws for value, and it's kind of hard for him to liberally raise us. I might lead out for 1/2 pot.
As played, calling seems fine, but I kind of want to raise when he bets less than half pot. It's a little awkward with the SPR, but I might make it $300. I would rather donk for $110 and have 2 SPR for the river than check-raise to $200-$300 and only have around 1 SPR or less getting to the river.
Also - do we have a spade in our hand? I might do more checking with a spade and more donking without one.
RIVER - again, I'd want to know if he's aggro or not. If he's usually going to barrel off, I'd check again, with plans to call any bet up to full pot. If he's REALLY aggro, I might block bet small, to induce him to raise. If he's more passive, I'd lead out for 1/2 pot, praying he has AK or QQ that just can't find a fold.
The SPR is a little awkward, such that if we were to bet 2/3 pot ($280) and he jammed, we'd be getting a little more than 2:1 pot odds on a call, making it kind of a gross spot.
All that said - checking to check-call a reasonable size bet is fine. We avoid value-owning ourselves or opening up our stack, and he might occasionally bet thin with KX.
