President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Since when has America been the most respected?

the USA lost Liu Jun, a "terence tao" level mathematician/statistician who already had strong connections with top Chinese universities and worked there at times, but is now going to leave for good for China.

I only know the monstrous contributions to MCMC (crucial modified monte carlo sampling procedures essential for ultra-complex environments) by Liu but i suppose he ALSO did a ton of other stuff on top of that. Truly a Gauss of our times.

A smart approach to the cold war with China would treat people like him very differently than normal immigrants, and would shield people like him, Tao and the rest from the very reasonable and very necessary assault on leftist universities.

Unfortunately we live in a world where we have to choose between admins that betray western interests, try to dismantle everything that made the west great and simp for China, and admins who have the right ethos and philosophy like the Trump admin related to western dominance but are clumsy and sometimes grotesque in execution of policy.

Trump: “Smart people don’t like me.”

Luciom likes him.

Luciom likes him.

I don't like Trump too much tbh. I like Milei or Wilders far more (talking about elected politicians). I would have preferred De Santis (or Rubio) to Trump by miles was well.

Trump is too moderate, has a economic understanding of macro issues that might have made sense before pure fiat money systems existed, is terrible at picking capable people to delegate to and so on and on

You're just making up the notion that his decision was based on US policy. Top Chinese scientists for the last 30+ years have been going back to China to take more administrative/emeritus roles to build up Chinese science. Chern, Yau, Yang just off the top of my head in the type of math I follow and many others I'm sure. It's a natural step when you know the best technical work of your life is behind you. Even Americans like Weinberg left Harvard to go to a less established place to help build up a department. The pull is even greater when you're Chinese; it's obvious China is going to become much more important in scientific research over the next 50 years compared to the last 50 and you have an oprtunity to influence the manner in which that takes place. A lot more appealing than being just another top researcher at Harvard.

He's not terrible at picking people to delegate to. He has a good sense of which people to pick who can rouse the MAGA that's at the heart of so many Americans now, because he only wants to win elections. It's a natural consequence of his picks being stupid as well as awful that they're incompetent.

winning elections sometimes requires achieving results.

Patel at the FBI has already proven to be not good at his job for example, and trump needs a strongman at the FBI who destroys enemies to achieve results to brag.

compare to Homan at ICE who instead is capable at his role (that you hate him is a feature not a bug).

Trump also picked terrible candidates in purple areas in the past for the Senate . and that cost the Gop at least 2 seats.

the inflationary horror of Biden reconcilation bills (COVID relief 2 and the disaster of the Orwellian "inflation reduction act") couldn't have happened if trump was less of an imbecile at picking the right people. so it's not about winning elections either

Silly me. I assumed that you were using the standard definition of competency ie good ability to perform at one’s job, rather than your bespoke definition which is something like enable the most violence against one’s opponents.

I’ll try not to make the same mistake again.

I use efficiency in doing their job as well.

ice job is to apprehend and deport illegals.

Doesn’t ICEs job depend on the policy instructions it’s given from the Shite House?

its funny the Dems and their supporters didnt hate him when he did the same **** for Obama.

as expected, predicted and explained, Trump is basically admitting the raid of the Hyundai plant was a huge **** up

Have not seen back track on his India tariffs which are driving them towards China

Have not seen back track on his India tariffs which are driving them towards China

trump is fully obsessed by tariffs as the solution for everything and he hasn't given any element to think he is re-evaluating that.

But the raid on the huyndai plant being built in the USA is a completly different thing

Trump today defended the second attack on Venezuelan boats by claiming that 300 million Americans died last year from drugs.

That leaves us with only about 40 million people in the country.

But luckily, Attorney General Bondi in the Spring claimed that recent fentanyl recent seizures would save 258 million lives.

They are just slaughtering random boats in the Caribbean to get a few likes on twitter. The only difference between Trump and the Dems is that they broadcast whereas the Dems hide it and then prosecute anyone who leaks it. We are a demonic society les by genocidal pedophiles.

Like sharing confidential info prior of an attack …

I'm pretty sure 99% of Democrats hadn't heard of him at that time.

Seems that Homan isn't so great at hiring and training ICE employees like the ones who arrested the Koreans.

They're obviously going to have lots of agents who are not the brightest now that they've lowered their standards to hire so many new people, but whoever was in charge of the operation should have known better than to arrest a group of Koreans who had work visas, when they were apparently looking for Latinos who were here without permission.

right, bc you guys didnt care when Dems did it. but the guy did get glowing write ups from liberal reporters in the Wapo.
