True. Since youtube has been covered in nick fuentes(even if it turns out this kid isn't a part of that--nf's still an example too) videos lately I've watched a fair few and a lot of his takes on things could be characterized as left in nature. And some others obv rightwing. It's kind of a mixed bag. Personally, I happen to think going off the rails to the right won't deliver on a lot of their gripes(and the left shares some blame for failing to deliver too). But it does kinda show what a mixed up mess things have become.

It is quite likely that the shooter is a self-curated niche kind of person, with a motivation that makes sense only to him and possibly a few online contacts that he's never actually met.

It's a type of relationship common between humans based on some shared interest background or culture.

Yeah people get fired from real networks for much less. Really represents what that culture has become.

I was getting the roommate bit from the article. But it seems we have reason to doubt that part of the article.

By the way can we all finally agree that left-wing cancel culture is dead and now it’s the right that wants to suppress free speech? I could understand getting fired for death threats, but why would we fire people over their lack of caring over the death of a political figure that had polemics against things they hold dear like the LGBT rights movement and the civil rights movement?

Like sketching out Kirk’s opinion to the average normie, they’re going to hear “this guy wants to end the civil rights act and thought it was a mistake in the first place” and think “this guy is a racist”. Would we be surprised if the average person that had that belief really was a racist? And so given it’s a reasonable heuristic and not everyone has time to hyper-fixate on the logic in every argument, we would expect that disconnect to happen.

So then reversing it, it’s the same reason why just because someone says something racist or sexist and it’s caught on camera, that doesn’t mean they should be automatically fired and ostracized from society. I agree with that as well.

But the fact is that right now the people with the power to fire someone by and large are the right-wingers, because they are the ones using large platforms to stochastically target random people. And there are many with more plans to do it, like Luci who wants to take away people’s right to participate in civil society over it.

But where are the consequences for people who jumped the gun and tried to foment civil war? Where is their moment of self-reflection?
