Yeah and probably an opportunist. It's one thing to go after POTUS at an event because that's one of the few shots someone could get at him. If someone really wanted Kirk, planting a bomb in his car or shooting him while he's walking his dog would be way lower risk than with thousands of people around. So I'm thinking the perfect opportunity presented itself to him both to get the shot and get away with it. Doesn't seem like he was armed like a school shooter to go out in a blaze of glory taking as many people as he could with him. That he didn't do that probably says a lot either to his motive or the escape plan.

Utah allows concealed carry on college campuses, right? So where was the so-called “good guy with a gun” when it actually mattered? Seriously — why would someone want to shoot the one guy who was for concealed carry and argued that armed students could prevent tragedies?
