Every season I offer AF's "Try to pick six teams to miss the playoffs" prop bet to coworkers, and I get a dozen takers. I insist on a $5 max bet, just for fun. Why? Because I don't want their money--I only offered the bet to show them how clever I am. This year, as they all came back to try again, I told them that I was no longer interested by this, that they can play along at home, without me.
Thinking I'm going to do this this year with my knucklehead friends, like $100 a head or something and any that win take/split the pool.
Need to get my kid a laptop for highschool. He's currently using a 6 year old Chromebook that barely functions and isn't compatible with much of anything.
I'm looking for a budget windows pc that will last the next 4 years. Only requirements are that it's reliable, can do all the general school stuff, and be able to run the most basic video editing software and 3D printing software.
I don't know anything about current PCs so Im kind of going in blind. No idea which chipsets are preferred nowadays, minimum ram needed etc. Any recommendations, preferably in the ~$5-600 range?
Costco has this Acer on sale for $400. Is this thing severely underpowered and obsolete, or will it be functional for the next 4 yrs?

I’m sorry, but there’s no way you’re getting a decent laptop that will last years for $500. In the current landscape, you’re realistically looking at least double that.
Buy used Dell business class laptops for pennies on the dollar off e-bay. Trailing edge tech FTW!

I mean the Chromebook has lasted 6+ years and was like $230. I don't need this thing to design and launch the next James Webb space telescope. Just hoping I can find something that will get my kid through the next few years of school

Haven't gotten back to that quite yet. I'm imagine the fact that the call came from an 800 number, but he told me to call back an 888 number, is just them thinking of me. Probably the callback number is their tiger team.
