English Football Season 2025-2026. Here we go again.
Welcome 2+2 to the English football season of 2025-2026.
This year I am going to make the thread officially for all of E
Width on the left and can play LCB too. Potentially an upgrade on Kiwior.
I suppose we aren't allowed to mention that the Spurs bid for him four days ago was rejected because the player wanted Arsenal. Sensible lad.
(not necessarily Bundesliga but point is still consistent)
So had:
Juan Veron
Angel di Maria
Jadon Sancho
Shevchenko
Werner
Nicolas Pepe
Brolin
etc etc etc
There have been a lot of them. He obviously might be amazing, but having proved yourself in the league is not worth nothing and the reason why it adds a few millers to the cost.
It’s a thing but it’s way overblown. And it makes more sense for players coming from lower leagues like Eredivisie than for BuLi or La Liga.
I'd love to see some data on this, but I tend to agree. if you go back more than 10-15 years, a player like Simons would have been bought over on his own and left to his own devices in London, which isn't necessarily the best recipe for a young player to succeed.
Nowadays, clubs bring their whole family over (Simons explicitly said this in his first interview), and they will basically have a club gofer to help them find a house, look after everything for them and help them settle.
So I'd expect this is much less of a thing than it used to be, and people are not making this distinction.
Regarding the signing more generally, it's one Spurs need to make to try and break back into the top 4. Simon's ceiling is basically Ballon D'or contender, whereas although Eze and MGW are top-tier premier league players, much like Richarlison and Solanke when we signed them for similar money, they are not going to reach that level.
Feel like we may be getting a bit carried away here lol
We need Simons type and he will hopefully be epic but I think it is more likely that Eze is top 5 player in prem than Simons next several seasons.
I doubt Simon's goal is to be at Spurs for the rest of his career - He'll be aiming to get back to Barca or PSG. If you're a forward at either of those clubs or Madrid, you're on the Ballon D'or list.
It is such a giant red flag that Sesko waited until the 10th spot to step up for his penalty. And that’s in addition to being scared of joining us last year because he didn’t want to compete with Havertz at striker.
Flop written all over him.
NGL I wanted Sesko for Arsenal but after 2 games it looks like Gyokeres was the right call.
Gyokeres might not be the technically gifted footballer and he's 27, but he certainly doesn't shy away from shooting or wanting the ball, and confidence is important in a striker.
Simons a good pickup for spurs and makes more sense for them with the age profile than eze or mgw did tbh.
Oh don't get me wrong, despite not knowing personally much about him before I am definitely happy.
The comparison and one-upmanship i just find hideous..
If we are competing for top 6 this year I will be delighted
Is Harwood-Bellis ****? We are supposedly interested.

Club gofers have been a thing for over 20 years.
The Simons ceiling may well be Ballon d’Or contender, but the Spurs ceiling is below that so he’ll have to play somewhere else to achieve that.
Last call for fantasy eggball, we draft tomorrow (31st) at 9pm

As an aside, if anyone has any contact info (email/social media link) for LFC_USA could they PM me with it please? He expressed an interested but 2p2 is telling me that his inbox is full.
That is a shocking decision
As a Dutchman who has seen a lot of him i think his ceiling is not that high, love to be proven wrong though
He is a bit known for going down easy and complaining to refs when he doesnt get a free kick after small/almost fouls... Has to shake that off asap to be suitable for PL
last touch of the half
CHE up a goal
many EPL teams wish they had Pedro on their squads
Perfectly good goal disallowed
Chelsea score after the 8 mins added (all because of lol VAR) is up
Embarrassing
Rob Jones has always been a clown, excelling himself today
Just saw the replay. Possibly the worst VAR ever, which is saying a lot.

Thank you for the reasonable take. I think this worked out well for both arsenal and spurs, and definitely for the players. Eze is an arsenal fan so that would have been awkward and going to Chelsea would have been a big risk for Simons. The only one it maybe didn’t work out for is MGW who is stuck with the fat lard at Forest.

One thing that never gets mentioned is all the intra-league moves that flop. Plenty of moves don’t work out. Sometimes it could be the difference in the league, but sometimes it is the managers system, competition, injuries, etc. like, does anyone really think AdM could not succeed in the PL? He was just in a **** situation at united.
Poor from Romero that. First goal we have conceded this season lol
Richarlison is such an infuriating player - he is everywhere at times and must be so annoying to play against, but my god he is where build up goes to die
This is a game where we really need Simons. We are effectively playing with 10 with Johnson so we can’t keep the ball at all.
Not a great half - we cannot find even the smallest bit of space today.
We have Manor Solomon on the bench i had entirely forgotten he was a Spurs player lol. Still prefer Tel or Odobert tbh
