President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
I think trump it trying to clog the news cycle because very soon, probably within this week, his "grand tariff plan" will be destroyed by the federal circuit court of appeal .
Wasn't that court order issued when El Salvador was the murder capital of the world and his argument was he wasn't safe ? El Salvador is very safe now and if he doesn't want to go to Uganda agree to go back to El Salvador.
These are the folks that the average American wants deported and what they voted for deporting criminals
The order could be revisited and possibly changed.
ICE never asked to do this.
bottom line is that that person has no right to stay in the USA and will be deported, and it took 1000x the effort to achieve that very normal outcome because of insane rules
The increased effort is all because of the government being *******s.
They could have immediately brought him back and then deported him to Mexico the next day if they wanted to. They are literally doing that exact thing STILL when mistakes are made.
The only reason this is happening is because ICE refused to admit they could bring him back in the first place.

bringing him back immediately after a mistaken court order (which SCOTUS revised in "facilitate" because it's absurd to order to take him back, if he is in custody in a foreign country) would create an absurd precedent of courts ordering stuff to be done in foreign countries and you don't really want that.
It might be true that given the good relationship with Bukele, trump could have got him back quickly if he had asked "in a certain way", but that's still something that courts shouldn't have a word about.
They couldn't deport him to Mexico until SCOTUS said it was ok to deport in third countries which iirc happened when the vietnamite murderer was deported to south sudan. And you want a deportation that is costly for the deportee, as much as possible, you want deterrence, this isn't a game that is only going to be played once.
You want to create such an horrible climate for aliens, such a fear of the worst possible consequences (ofc, always within the constitution) that as many as possible self deport. That's a key mechanism that apparently, according to some anecdotes, is starting to work.
CNN has been reporting here and there about self-deportation
(just an example here)
You want this to become an exodus, and everything bad (if legal) that you can cause aliens to suffer through the deportation process including humiliation, perceived brutality, family separation and so on (as long as legal ofc) is what you are after , explicitly.
Let's say the saga ends with him in Uganda living a life of misery and without even a passport to move from there. Let's say that gets coverage nationwide. What's going to be the domino effect of that for families with illegals?
The absurd precedent would be to have a legal agreement (i.e. a contract) that allows the US courts to hand shake an external countries court system in a way that facilitates the transfer and detainment of criminals with no pull back process.
You know this, I know this, legal scholars certainly know this, hell your average homeless Mississippi alcoholic knows it

From SCOTUS on the topic
On Friday, April 4, the United States District Court for
the District of Maryland entered an order directing the Government to “facilitate and effectuate the return of [Abrego
Garcia] to the United States by no later than 11:59 PM on
Monday, April 7.”
//
The intended
scope of the term “effectuate” in the District Court’s order
is, however, unclear, and may exceed the District Court’s
authority. The District Court should clarify its directive,
with due regard for the deference owed to the Executive
Branch in the conduct of foreign affairs. For its part, the
Government should be prepared to share what it can concerning the steps it has taken and the prospect of further
steps.
Following the district court order would have created the precedent of allowing courts to order ambigous, possibly unconstitutional foreign policy directives. An immense violation of the separation of powers. You are lucky the trump admin appealed and scotus put things into their proper place.
And if a D Pres. did this Rs would be off the rails calling them mentally ill, not fit to serve, tyrannical, impeachment time etc.
yes republicans are a lot better at playing opposition than democrats are these days.
Democrats can't even find easy targets where overwhelming majorities of the population could agree with them about trump doing objective mistakes / "bad things", even with plenty of options, and insist on criticizing deportations of aliens and "law and order" initiatives which are among the electoral/political strength of republicans.
They could just run 24/7 about inflation being insane because tariffs, exaggerating it a lot if necessary, there must be some specific case of huge price jumps even if niche to use to show trump caused inflation right? instead, they attempt to redistrict in california trying to abolish a commission that is super popular there, with only 50-55 OF CALIFORNIANS being in favor of the redistricting efforts lol

No Luciom, YOU are lucky that you are allowed to spew endless nonsense on this forum and you should remember that

There’s half a dozen things factually wrong with this, but none of it matters to your initial point which was that it took “1000x” effort to bring him back.
They could have voluntarily brought him back. They did it before. They do it now.
No one had to sue to make this happen. ICE had the full ability to bring him back once they realized what happened. They chose not to. Everything comes from that decision. All of the increased cost and time is on the government.
Not even core MAGA is liking the latest EO

I would never in a million years harm the American flag.
But a president telling me I can’t has me as close as I’ll ever be to lighting one on fire.
I am a free American citizen. And if I ever feel like torching one, I will.
This is garbage.
And what does Luciom the “Libertarian” who loves authoritarianism think?
lol trump just signed an EO prescribing 1 year in jail for flag burners. Another waste of money for the judiciaries (this time caused by the admin).I understand the idea of testing newly rightwing courts to reverse egregiously wrong decided precedents and it's very cool for trump to attempt that against the unconstitutional regulatory state and other things, but he needs to be
@jalfrezi
a clear unforced error by trump
A tactical error or an error of principle?
both + a very stupid use of EO, EO can't determine private actions are crimes.
As it's very often the case , i agree with Scalia on flag burning (he was the decisive, unexepcted vote to rule anti-flag burning state laws are unconstitutional).
Much later when asked about the topic , this is how he answered:
/In one of his last public events, Justice Scalia explained why he cast the deciding vote in the Johnson case, on the principal of a textual reading of the First Amendment. “If it were up to me, I would put in jail every sandal-wearing, scruffy-bearded weirdo who burns the American flag,” Scalia said at a November 2015 event in Philadelphia. “But I am not king.”

Every fiber of your being if you are morally healthy should make you hate people who burn the american flag as a political statement with a passion. And yet, that's a core fundamental and constitutionally protected freedom and you have to suck it up and accept they can do that without any legal consequence
100% of the rightwing people that i follow in agreement (not those i follow to monitor antisemite extremism and so on , on the right) are against trump flag burning EO
No but Luciom claims he has.

Yes democrats could lie like the publicans just for the sake of power .
Great society it creates .
That is the way from the the right with their higher moral grounds u love to quote .

Soon an executive order will say the same for anyone arming the trump logo or his picture , completing the full circle .
that reminds me :
I don't have neonazi mutuals I use a separate "silent" account to monitor evil people on the right and on the left, I don't want the toxic pollution to touch my main.
most of extremist nativist MAGA think it's outrageous only 1 year they wanted life no parole or something huge anyway.
but the jessie guy got flooded by them when he surprisingly sided with the normal take

but democrats do lie all the times anyway. like when they claimed biological men don't have an advantage vs women in sports. or when they claimed the Ukraine war had no impact on inflation.
or when they called an increase in deficit "inflation reduction act" lol.
given they do already lie all the times about everything, they should lie where it works
Goalposts, goalposts— everywhere.
Luciom is really ramping up today.
