President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
I assume you realize I didn’t actually click on that ****ing nonsense and am just jumping to conclusions
I didn't, but I agree that 64 reps of 315 would be quite something, especially when you consider that no one in the history of the NFL combine has ever done more than 51 reps of 225.
Sure but the right is never going to be the guys who really deliver for reg. working people. The Ds are primarily trash because they're compromised(to the right) into being something other than what they should primarily be which is a labor party. The right has been pretty unabashedly a pro-capital party for ages.
A labor party can’t really win since it would have to be very racially diverse and rurals/white working class voters heavily prioritize race issues.

The only reason this is true is because the right has made culture war bullshit their messaging for a decade and have won over stupid people in perpetuity with that messaging
Meanwhile the DNC feeds into that messaging by fixating on electing/appointing the first ‘X’ to ‘Y’ and clings to that despite massive losses across the board otherwise and simply do not have the capacity to give way to Bernie et al
I disagree that the party chose the culture war nonsense. Bush, McCain Romney etc were basically kicked out of the party and not primarily culture warriors. The voters chose birtherism and all the stupid issues and that’s what conservatism is now.

Fixed it for you.
Instead of benching, we choose our leaders based on their time in a CrossFit wod like Murph.
From Umberto Eco's essay,
- 1. The cult of tradition. “One has only to look at the syllabus of every fascist movement to find the major traditionalist thinkers. The Nazi gnosis was nourished by traditionalist, syncretistic, occult elements.”
- 2. The rejection of modernism. “The Enlightenment, the Age of Reason, is seen as the beginning of modern depravity. In this sense Ur-Fascism can be defined as irrationalism.”
- 3. The cult of action for action’s sake. “Action being beautiful in itself, it must be taken before, or without, any previous reflection. Thinking is a form of emasculation.”
- 4. Disagreement is treason. “The critical spirit makes distinctions, and to distinguish is a sign of modernism. In modern culture the scientific community praises disagreement as a way to improve knowledge.”
- 5. Fear of difference. “The first appeal of a fascist or prematurely fascist movement is an appeal against the intruders. Thus Ur-Fascism is racist by definition.”
- 6. Appeal to social frustration. “One of the most typical features of the historical fascism was the appeal to a frustrated middle class, a class suffering from an economic crisis or feelings of political humiliation, and frightened by the pressure of lower social groups.”
- 7. The obsession with a plot. “Thus at the root of the Ur-Fascist psychology there is the obsession with a plot, possibly an international one. The followers must feel besieged.”
- 8. The enemy is both strong and weak. “By a continuous shifting of rhetorical focus, the enemies are at the same time too strong and too weak.”
- 9. Pacifism is trafficking with the enemy. “For Ur-Fascism there is no struggle for life but, rather, life is lived for struggle.”
- 10. Contempt for the weak. “Elitism is a typical aspect of any reactionary ideology.”
- 11. Everybody is educated to become a hero. “In Ur-Fascist ideology, heroism is the norm. This cult of heroism is strictly linked with the cult of death.”
- 12. Machismo and weaponry. “Machismo implies both disdain for women and intolerance and condemnation of nonstandard sexual habits, from chastity to homosexuality.”
- 13. Selective populism. “There is in our future a TV or Internet populism, in which the emotional response of a selected group of citizens can be presented and accepted as the Voice of the People.”
- 14. Ur-Fascism speaks Newspeak. “All the Nazi or Fascist schoolbooks made use of an impoverished vocabulary, and an elementary syntax, in order to limit the instruments for complex and critical reasoning.”
I, for one, am shocked to learn that the literal US government buying a 10% stake in intel while it is run by the most vitriolic hyper-partisan administration in American history has raised no red flags with the ‘herpa derp I identify as libertarian’ crowdTrump, in effect, owning 10% of intel without paying a penny directly for it using our money to do so is probabl
Most libertarians are just crypto-conservatives, and mainstream US conservatism has been intellectually braindead for the better part of two decades. The minority of genuine libertarians has no political power, because politicians aren't going to give political power to people who don't want politicians.
So now you get a government which hollers about freedom while stripping independence from media and universities, sics the armed forces at its citizens, raises taxes for 99% of the populace, openly embraces corruption, does away with due process, demolishes government functions with no rhyme or reason, replaces professionals with apparatchiks, spews a never-ending barrage of bile and whining 24 hours a day and seems to openly hate 60% of its country.
Small government indeed.
Trump has now shown himself to be a communist, the first ever among our presidents. Amazing.
Abrego-Garcia now apparently getting shipped off to Uganda, after we let convicted felons out to bring charges that will likely just never be resolved. GGWP

I am baffled by this one . Is he not an El Salvadorian ? If so I get why he should not go to the super max but why not just deport him to El Salvador?

so much money would have been saved if low level courts had simply allowed him to stay in el salvador, or at most, to be moved from el salvador to Uganda directly

he has a court order protecting him from deportation to el salvador because of "risk for his life" back there.
But SCOTUS allowed those kind of people (deportees that for any reason cannot be deported back to their country of origin) to be deported in third party countries. So now the USA can and will deport him to Uganda (this time, unlike with South Sudan, they do have an agreement with Uganda)

To sum it up as quickly as possible:
-He had a specific finding by an immigration judge before this all started that he could NOT be deported to El Salvador. This has never been revisited or even attempted to be changed.
-He gets swept up and ICE either ignores it or didn’t see it
-Courts, including SCOTUS, order US to “facilitate” his return
-US claims they can’t do anything to bring him back. Much litigation ensues.
-US gets him back “somehow”. They never clarify whether it’s because they indicted him or not
-He gets released on criminal charges
-ICE now picks him up and ships him to Uganda.
Lot happens in between, press conferences, DOJ attorneys fired, contempt proceedings frozen and possibly killed by appeals court.
Bottom line - the DOJ itself rules years ago they couldn’t send him to El Sal at all, and when the mistake was pointed out they have tried everything under the sun to punish him.
bottom line is that that person has no right to stay in the USA and will be deported, and it took 1000x the effort to achieve that very normal outcome because of insane rules

Wasn't that court order issued when El Salvador was the murder capital of the world and his argument was he wasn't safe ? El Salvador is very safe now and if he doesn't want to go to Uganda agree to go back to El Salvador.
These are the folks that the average American wants deported and what they voted for deporting criminals
‘Imagine how much money could have been saved if we just let him stay at the supermax prison in another country he was wrongly sent to’ is about the level of discourse I’ve grown to expect from it/that
re: cashless bail
What stops judges from setting bail at $1.00?

Not sure if it was because of that, or because of specific threat to that individual personally. Anyway it's an absurd judicial principle which should be discarded, the USA shouldn't be responsible for the well being of aliens in foreign countries, the constitution doesn't discuss that. It's not the USA problem if that person is at risk for his life at home.
But at least now there is a legal way to deal with those situations which in practice will make "credible fear" decisions moot. Even if judges decide to believe the alien, he can be sent elsewhere.
lol trump just signed an EO prescribing 1 year in jail for flag burners. Another waste of money for the judiciaries (this time caused by the admin).
I understand the idea of testing newly rightwing courts to reverse egregiously wrong decided precedents and it's very cool for trump to attempt that against the unconstitutional regulatory state and other things, but he needs to be very badly advised if he thinks he has a chance to reverse precedents about flag burning being protected under the 1a.
Not to mention the fact that he cannot make something a felony through an EO ofc
