My Keto/Fasting journey
Figured this would be a good place to talk/vent about my weight loss journey. Not really expecting a lot of activity 😀
awesome...

More progress but the scale seems to move glacially. On the bright side all of my measurements are down again with another .5 inch off of waist and a full inch off of thigh. So I am getting narrower even if not that much lighter.
I ate well and measured this week and got my steps in but didn't do any resistance stuff until yesterday. I slept funny on my shoulder last weekend which made my resistance stuff too painful until I started back up yesterday.
This week I am going to do my monthly 72 hour fast which is almost guaranteed to have results. My last 72 was partially at the end of April and it shows in Mays numbers. This weeks omad went fine but I was mostly only in very low level ketosis until it finally popped a little on Thursday. It usually takes me about 28 hours of fasting before I get into a quality state of ketosis.
Just gonna keep trudging forward and plan to do the fast from mid day Saturday to mid day Tuesday.
Just broke my 72 hour fast. Started noonish on Saturday and just had a couple of fried eggs and bacon. This was my 3rd 72 and it was the easiest one yet but none of them have been hard. The worst of it has always been at the 26-30 hour mark. I guess because I am used to eating after a 24 hour fast. But once I get over that hump (evening of first full day) I am not even really hungry? And the second full day (yesterday) is a total snap with no pangs at all.
I hope to continue doing a 72 every month. The rest of this month will be challenging as I have a couple of trips coming up and I fully expect and plan to go off the rails a bit. Vacations are partially for celebrating with food and drink although I plan to maintain some semblance of IF with eating windows. Keto will likely go out the window however I won't eat crap just for the sake of eating. My appetite has definitely changed and I will be using portion control even if the foods arent all low/no carb.

Another bittersweet result from the scale. -2.8 lbs is very good but it involved a 72 hour fast which once again seems weak for the effort. But I have come to grips that at my age the scale is just gonna move slow. Down anyway 😀 Measurments still on a positive trend and I picked up another notch on my belt this week so that is very encouraging.
But this will be my last weigh in until June 30 at the end of the month. These next couple of weeks will be a challenge as I will be traveling and vacationing. Keto will go out the window although I will pay (minor) attention to carbs and calories. I plan to enjoy my trips and that means paying less attention to my food and drink intake. I will try to keep some sembelance of fasting and will for sure use portion control while getting plenty of excersize.
Next week the plan is a 5:2 which means 5 normalish eating days and 2 fast days. I plan to fast Saturday and Monday. Then on Wednesday I head out to Vegas for 8 days of wsop fun. I definitely plan to eat some of my favorite LV meals I will try to either OMAD or a reasonable eating window with portion control in mind. The main problem will be beer 😀 After a long day of leatherassing poker I like to unwind with a couple of cold ones.
Then I will be home for 3 days and then head up to Milwaukee to catch a 3 game Brewers series with some old college buddies. Tailgating Brewers games with college buddies is not exactly condusive to weight loss but I will do my best!
So if I can tread water until the end of the month I would be happy with that result. In any event once I am home it will be back to nose to the grindstone. At least until late July when I have another trip which will be challenging as well but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
I've been a bad boy! 8 days in Vegas will do that to you 😀 Got home yesterday and it was a fast day after 8 straight days of feasting. Tomorrow I will fast again but have another hurdle next week. Going up to Milwaukee for 3 days to take in a Brewers series with my old college buddies. 3 days of tailgating Brewers games with my oldest drinking buddies is not condusive to keto or fasting.
Then it will be hardcore until I leave on another trip at the end of July. I am confident I will get to where I wanna get but I am not willing to not enjoy my vacations because of it.
As expected my trip to Milwaukee was not exactly keto or fasting friendly 😀 But will be back home for a month until my next trip and it will be balls to the wall keto and fasting until then. Just ate a mini feast for lunch and am launching into a 72 hour fast. Won't eat again until mid day Tuesday. Then I will finally weigh myself again for my June numbers and see how much damage I did.
Another successful 72 hour fast! Haven't broken it yet (will in about an hour) but it was the easiest yet. After the first day I'm not even really hungry. This was my 4th monthly 72 hour.
Also jumped on the scale for the first time since beore I started my travels. My first goal was not to gain any weight since my last monthly weigh in. I made it! My second goal was not to gain any weight since my last weekly weigh in. Missed that one!
But it's okay because I spent 11 days vacationing and not even thinking (much) at all about keto or fasting and I was able to stay level despite eating all kinds of bad "luxury" foods and drinking lots of beer.

So now I will be home until July 25th and plan to aggressively keto and fast until then. Plan to OMAD the rest of this week and then next week go back to the aggressive 4:3 plan where I fast for 3 seperate days and eat on the other 4 days. This method seemed the most effective for me so far. I plan to resume weekly weigh ins next week.
Had a decent week on the fasting aspect but went off the rails a little eating and drinking over the 4th of July weekend with a couple of social events with plenty of food and drink. Weighed in at 212.6 this morning down .3 from my last weigh in. I did have 3 clean 40ish hour fasts which kept me in the game after a bad weekend.
This week the plan is another 4:3 style fasting week as this seems very easy for me and also seems to keep me in a better state of ketosis than an OMAD or a tight eating window.
3 40 hour fasts and you only lost .3 suggests it is doing diddly squat
Stuck to plan perfectly this week (no weekend blowup like over the 4th!) with 3 40+ hour fasts and eating no carb/lowish calorie but the scale is still depressing. Weighed in at 211.1 which is down 1.5 from last week but feel it should be more. But it never is. My body just seems resistant to losing weight quickly. Thats okay as I will stick with it and lose it slower than I would like. But I'm not ever going back no matter how long it takes. I totally sold on the fasting lifestyle and find it easy and enjoyable. I'll stick with it forever and eventually I will get where I wanna be.
This week I plan to do a 5:2 which means 5 eating days (likely omad or tight eating window) and 2 fast days. Then ... then I face another huge challenge as I will be going on a 10 Alaskan cruise. I actually expect to do better on the cruise than I did in Vegas or Milwaukee but time will tell. Probably not gonna weigh in again until the end of August.
Got back from my cruise on Wednsday. Definitely ate and drank too damn much but that is what vaction is for 😀 I did get a couple of pure keto and fasting days in there. Also had plenty of excersize. Hit the fitness center every day and hiked several miles in the hills not to mention lots of laps on the walking deck.
Back in the saddle now and haven't touched a carb since home. Been OMAD since Wednesday and plan to do a 72 hour fast starting on Sunday. Gonna stay very disciplined until my September Vegas trip where i likely go off the rails again😀 But after that I am home and on point through the rest of the year.
Had a really good week on the eating, fasting and exercize fronts. Did my 5th monthly 72 hour fast and they keep getting easier. I was actually worried this one would be tougher since I hadn't had a 48+ hour fast in a couple of weeks due to my traveling. But it was easy peasy. Still not going anywhere near the scale until the end of the month.
This weeks plan is a 2:5 where I fast on Sunday and Thursday and go OMAD the rest of the week. I have my yearly physical next Friday and I am really curious at how my blood test is gonna come out. I have been mostly mid range on all factors other than colesteral which has been at the high end (but in range). I am curious as to how my keto/fasting has (or hasn't?) had an impact on that.
Had a decent week with 2 40+ hour fasts and eating correctly. Got my steps in but coulda done with more resistance training. Had my yearly physical this morning and really looking forward to seeing how my bloodwork comes out since I started serously doing this keto/fasting routine since my last physical.
On another note my fitbit died a little over a month ago. I immediately purchased a Garmin since fitbit really sucks balls since Google bought them. I had been a fitbit addict since late 2015 but a month in and I am loving the Garmin. Seems a lot better than fitbit ever was.
