When it comes to restrictions on liberty, no one complains about a government which restricts private citizens from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

How about age as a consideration ? Let's say you have seniors who had the benefit of many years of life already and are no longer adding anything productive to society vs children ?
How about skill as a consideration ? The ability to add value to whatever society emerges in the future and contribute to future survival ?

Do I encourage a requirement that people who wish to serve in government must sign an oath that they are not dedicated to the realization of apocalyptic prophecy that entails life on Earth being destroyed ? Do you believe a society can function without laws which establish behavioral boundaries ? I consider murder to be poison.
I am not going to apologize for doing what is necessary to try and preserve my species.
I suspect there are going to be very important judicial trials in the future on par with the ones which took place in Nuremburg after WW2 and Nazis were held to account.
Who will be the defendants in those trials ?
The people who were warned about the consequences and vainly insisted that their personal prerogatives were more important than the fate of everyone.
Think about it. After 9/11, we gave up all of our online anonymity with the Patriot Act, FISA Courts, Spying on and Profiling Citizens. Tracking out IP addresses.
I'm not going to be the one who conducts these trials. I'm not going to be the one who represents the pissed off generations who are being handed the bag of crap we're leaving them. But they're going to be angry and they are going to look for people to punish in order to ensure that everyone gets the message about the consequences of being selfish.

Maybe we do need the kind of iron fist you suggest. The climate issue is serious business. While i do agree that mail in vote is absurd for people without exceptional disabilities, and electronic (machine) voting is absud as well, those are policy considerations that every state has to evaluate, it's not a federal matter.
