While it's mostly true what you're saying on the surface, there's also a whole lot of people that fight against those standards and measurements, that money is more valuable than a soul / person. There's many liberal intellectuals that have argued against, and explained why this kind of thinking is bad / evil. Someone named Noam even famously wrote, "Profits over people".

hi crossnerd, I am only partially familiar to that series of strikes. Funny because pullman is the actual italian word to say "private bus".
I googled now to check details to avoid saying something absurd.
While i do completly favor striking in the private sector, that's usually limited to *refusing to work for your employer*. That should never be sanctioned by law, although i don't agree workers who strike should be protected from being fired either. Basically, anyone at any time should be legally allowed to refuse to work (in the private sector) for any reason, and to spend that time doing anything legal he thinks is proper with his time (including legal protesting).
That's my general take.
Now the little problem is, IF WHAT I READ IS TRUE, in that strike you mentioned workers stopped doing their job (=fine with me), and attempted to DISRUPT THE TRAFFIC OF TRAINS (=terrorism).
Now IF that's true, everyone attempting to stop trains to make a political statement should have been shot dead, simple as that. And not because it's a strike, the same would apply if they were unemployed people, or on their own free time.
You simply cannot condone stopping trains full stop. And cannot condone ANY form of political violence, and that includes any violence against property. Now trains back in those days are even more important than "normal" property so extreme brutality would have been warranted more than usual.
I really don't see how any other reaction by the government can be justified *no matter what the grieviances were*. It would have been an abject failure by government to do anything other than shooting to kill those terrorists.

I am on the record in this forum, but i can repeat that, to be in favor of first trimester abortion *and i would be ok with state subsidized, NO QUESTION ASKED first trimester abortion for all, with complete privacy, including minors*.
The state saves money if an unwanted baby is killed. People who want to abort as usually not so good people who we are better off if they don't have children anyway. In the first trimester the fetus isn't a person by any meaningful, non-religious sense.

Your responses come across as quite harsh. Just to clarify, Black Lives Matter began in 2013 following the acquittal of George Zimmerman, who fatally shot an unarmed teenager, Trayvon Martin. According to Wikipedia, 36 people lost their lives in connection to BLM protests. In contrast, 1,365 people reportedly died due to police violence in 2024. I’m not speaking on behalf of BLM or the police, but it does seem that police are responsible for significantly more violence.
