Steve Earle did some great work with Del McCoury's band over the years too.

Copperhead Road is the only Steve Earle I have on the iPod. I should probably get around to doing a deep dive on him one day.Had our first camping family reunion in a few years thanks to forest fires / etc., it was nice to get back to that. Counted 58 people and 13 dogs.Camping Family Reunion Poker night was the usual gong show but a great time. Won by my cousin's kid who du

NIMA!!!!!!

Story time with McMuffin:
So Nima claimed he was amazing at chess so naturally we were going to play. Then he wants to play only 1 minute chess (no increment). Game after game he does nothing but literally shuffle his pieces on the back rank, trying to win on time.

I still destroyed him each game.

Nice callback.

It's an OOT thing. Legend in his own mind, the Bay Area Beast, was a fixture in OOT under a zillion different SNs for at least a decade. He loved that beer, and losing at chess to McLovin.

And touting and lying and homophobia and ladyboys and doxing himself and stealing from 2+2ers and thinking about quitting his job

And gaping the Indians from the corner seat

And betting on baseball favorites, while creating pickmonitor after pickmonitor account trying to become a tout.

This is how you play 65 suited:$5/5. CO opens $20. SB calls. We raise to $100 in the BB with 65.Flop 993 (pot $220)We check. CO checks back.Turn J (pot $220)We check. CO bets $75. We raise to $175. CO calls.River 3 (pot $575)We jam for $325. CO folds.I think 99% of players are better off folding this pre-flop, and about 90% of live players get this spot wrong and just call. I t

Call preflop is definitely the worst option with $9 rake or what ever it is especially.

His bet looks pretty monkey stabby on turn. And small raise just keeps him in with everything so you can fold him out on the river. Probably some kind of small pair or clubs himself.

Finally getting some improvement on my wrist injury. PT doc started working on my elbow last week, and it improved my wrist considerably, surprisingly enough. Was able to try medieval headkicking this weekend and it was almost pain free and 85% range of motion.

For those of you with a lot of life experience: I’d love to hear your thoughts on love, marriage, and raising kids.

Do you think there’s an ideal timing or stage of life for these things, or does it just depend on the person?

Looking back, what do you wish you knew about relationships, marriage (whether love or arranged), and family 20–30 years ago that you’d want younger people or your kids to keep in mind today?

That’s great news. You’re crazy to even headkick at all though. Go find a safer hobby like juggling torches and gasoline canisters.

Ummm that’s a complex question to unpack and everyone is going to have different answers. I’ll provide a few cliffs from my personal experience, but so many variables impact what would even be perceived as “right”.

1. Love and attraction are not enough. At the end of the day you also need to respect and communicate. My first marriage had a lot of the love / attraction. We were not as good with the other bucket. There were tons of warning signs and red flags that we both should’ve acknowledged and acted on. Instead we tried to power through because we were young, dumb(er) and in love.

2. My second marriage is way more stable as we communicate better, know what makes each other tick better and actually listen to what those signals are telling us.

I’ve learned that being right is way less important than respectful communication. Sounds kind of obvious when you write it / say it out loud, ldo.

3. Kids - you’re never ready. In a perfect world I would have had kids 3-5 years sooner based on my own aches and bodily pains. I have some worries about trying to keep up as they get older and more into sports (or whatever they end up doing). But I didn’t have the right partner and was too consumed by work, so not really an option.

4. Love and attraction fade or at least have peaks and valleys. Sometimes it’s important to force yourself to take extra steps to show the other person you care, are thinking about them, are attracted even when you’re tired, feel like ****, etc.

We had our first kid at ages 30/31 which to me struck a good balance between having enough time to get our careers started and not being old as **** as our kids become teenagers.

Marriage is easy, most of the time, but it always takes focused effort to keep it pointed in the right direction. Communication is key, as Miami said. As close as you may be to your spouse, you cant read their mind and vice versa. Resentment is the silent killer.

Communication regarding finances is particularly important. However you want to set up your sharing of money is different for everyone. But you both need to know what the expectations are regarding spending, savings, short and long term goals, and day to day life. Also marry someone who earns as much or more than you do, if you can tolerate the ego hit.

JITC is correct: Get over The Hump with your careers before having children. Because if you start spitting them out before you are on secure footing.... and the brats start eating $50 bills for breakfast...... NOT having a financial "issue" will save lots of headache/heartache due to $$ pressures.

My wife spat out all her kids fairly young and pre me. Now all the kids are early 30's and more-or-less looking after themselves (one with kids of their own), which really frees up our time to enjoy our lives at our own pace. It's a bit of a catch 22, but the longer you wait to become stable financially / career-wise (which admittedly makes sense) then the older you'll be raising kids (and I can't imagine having that type of energy required, especially at a much older age, especially with young kids).

There's a long time poker dealer who I talked to at the table the other day. He looks a decent bit older than I am (I'd guess 60 - 65, maybe even older). He's been dealing this room since it opened in 2005, and I asked him if he's considered retiring. He lol'ed and said his kids are way too young to be considering that... at 11 and 14. Yikes.

GwornoutafterjustanhourwiththegrandkidsG

Find one that doesn't want kids and retire way earlier.

Kids make your life more difficult and more expensive but way way better. By far the best thing in my life

The worst thing you can do IMO would be to have kids with the wrong woman

There’s no perfect time. It depends on who you meet and when - kids are a gigantic shock and a huge adjustment whatever age you have them. My new partner is 47 but has kids who are 25 and 21. She is very free now way way earlier than her friends, but she never got to experience the 20s that others did

I agree with Miami about communication and values alignment
