President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

In the usual Trumpian manner of solving things by ignoring them.

The White House has instructed NASA employees to terminate two major, climate change-focused satellite missions.

As NPR reports, Trump officials reached out to the space agency to draw up plans for terminating the two missions, called the Orbiting Carbon Observatories. They've been collecting widely-used data, providing both oil and gas companies and farmers with detailed information about the distribution of carbon dioxide and how it can affect crop health.

You're trying too hard. I'm not going to spend the necessary amount of time to make every sentence I type on 2p2 immune to mischaracterization, but suffice it to say more people want to look at Sweeney's naked body than Dunham's. It's just that simple.

That doesn't make it more positive than the other. It's just that simple. It might surprise you to learn but giving teenagers "bank" material isn't a noble goal.

The implications of this post make me very sad

Anyways, your posting is a perfect example of objectification vs empowerment, which is why I'm railing on your posts

Fair, and I understand what you're implying, but I might just be more pragmatic than you are.

My bad on accidentally speaking in an absolutist tone on the nudity in TV. In my head I intended that sentence to include the word "probably", as in most movie/TV nudity is gratuitous in nature and doesn't assist as a plot device. I added the word fictional because I knew there would be a carveout for documentary or historical media.

by Inso0

All displays of nudity in fictional TV and film are unnecessary, but some are more unnecessary than others.

One of them bleeding hearts?

It's wild to me that movies, shows and ads hire attractive people. Shame on them.

Trump's been desperately trying to shift the focus from the Epstein files, and all it took was some ho's fake tits.

Bill Clinton would like a word

I see the Clintons have been subpoenaed, but even if put on the stand I don't suppose they'll say much beyond 'We barely knew Epstein and what about that Trump guy?'

inso have you always been scared of the boobies, or new traumatic experience?

Scared? No.

I'm also old enough to know that it used to be far more prevalent than it is today, and even more unnecessary for the plot. 80s and 90s movies went hard in the paint for gratuitous flashing of tits.

This is the 3rd recent example of the administration wanting to spend money to destroy something.

The other things were food destined for distribution by NGOs, and birth control devices for similar. I'm not sure if either of those have been done yet, but NGOs have offered to take the food and bc off our hands for free instead of them being destroyed.

What exactly makes you sad? That more people like looking at one woman naked than like looking at another woman naked? That seems almost self-evident. My preferences are different than most, but I still appreciate looking at some bodies more than others.

I don't think they're fake. If they are, she's constructed a dishonest elaborate back story for them.

But his comment is true. Objectification isn't about what is or isn't physically attractive or even about exhibiting one's sex appeal. It's about reducing someone to nothing more than their body. Let us applaud the porn industry, where women are empowered and viewed as complex individuals with unique personalities and insights to offer and not seen as mere vehicles for bringing men to an explosive climax.

I agree that what you say is self evident.

I think what should also be self evident is that more women look like Lina Dunham than look like Sydney Sweeney

I won't, if it's all the same to you.

... which is why I said body positivity movement stops being good when they shift from "this doesn't make you less of a person" and into the "you can be healthy at every size" territory.

Murica #1 is fat as ****, and that needs to be fixed, not explained away with pseudoscience or justified with, "They're just fatphobic, queen. You go girl!" propaganda.

We WAY overcorrected from the early 2000s when people like Jessica Simpson were viewed as too fat for TV.

Michelle Obama tried to bring some attention to this issue. I probably dunked on her on this very forum because of how much press arugula got at the time, but her heart was in the right place.

We were fed slop at school when I was a kid, too, but I went home and played outside for another 5 hours before having to come back home for the night. We don't do that anymore.

Now, kids can't even walk home from school without someone calling CPS and they arrive home and sit down in front of a screen and consume the worst foods you can imagine. Half of what they sell on our shelves in America isn't even legal in some European countries. We give literal babies iPads to keep them busy instead of those old "physical busy center" things from when my kids were little.

These fat babies turn into fat kids who turn into fat teenagers who turn into fat adults that go around starting "Healthy at every size" movements to make them feel better about eating 4500 calories a day and never moving more than necessary.

I live this existence, too, and if not for being a giant who played a lot of sports in my youth to pick up muscle mass, I'd probably look like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters.

I generally agree with this at a high level.

While there has been some unhealthy normalization of being obese I don't think its as bad as you are making it out to be. The most prominent obese people in the country are essentially side show freaks put to display on trashy FX shows that mostly highlight how they have a really poor quality of life. What I see as being more mainstream is the push to allow obese people to feel sexy, which is mostly targeted towards women because society doesn't generally care about men.

But as you noted in your next post, many of our societal norms push people towards being obese. So while I would personally never allow myself to get fat, and I wouldn't seriously date a fat woman, I also wouldn't want to get in anyone's way of being able to feel sexy.

It looks like Americans have collectively plateaued or slightly lost a few pounds since about 2022 and they were getting fatter before covid and especially during covid + a whole other bucket of issues.

I think the more people learn about their own health and what is triggering their problems, the more they will focus on issues like weight loss. Who knows to what degree or how long it will take but it feels like a trend that would eventually take place.
