I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

But I don't understand how you could actively watch a decent amount of high-level soccer and find it boring.

The skill is undeniable, but it is rare that something happens that matters. I do like events like the World Cup and Champions League, though. But that's mainly because it is an event.

The Internet was a mistake.

Yeah, it's kind of ironic. It has the power to make us infinitely smarter and yet it has had the exact opposite effect.

That does not explain why it is the whole world's most popular spectator sport. (Except for India and Pakistan where they're fixated on cricket, and the odd cultural backwater like North America.) In fact, because of the elements of touch, manoeuvre and ball physics among other things, the game -- genuine high-speed 4D chess, the fourth dimension being time -- is too hard for a

I have a friend who is an avid recreational soccer player and he is also a 1900+ rated chess player. He describes soccer as "chess with your feet."

I just want to drop in here and say that hockey is the best sport. Don't @ me.

Soccer, rugby, and football are all effectively the same game. Hockey kind of, but on ice

Are movies all effectively the same film? Lol.

I enjoy watching ice hockey.

Hockey took off here in SoCal in the late 1980's when the L.A. Kings signed Wayne Gretzky. I was part of the 'Gretzky Boom.'

That entire plane would need to be disassembled for the required upgrades to act as Air Force One, and then disassembled to take them out and turn it back into a civilian aircraft.

For both cost and timing reasons, none of that will happen. It's a distraction tactic.

There’s some reporting that part one of that is in fact happening and is being buried in the DoD budget.

Speaking of social media though, it IS currently at peak extra chromosomes over Sydney Sweeney & American Eagle.

I just watched the ads. I'm not too interested in Sydney Sweeney complaining about people focusing on her appearance if she is going to do that ad campaign. Otherwise, my reaction was mostly a yawn. Those ads are hardly the most controversial I have seen.

I hate soccer( for the sake of this thread I'll call it soccer), the fake injuries is really annoying and a whole game ending 0-0 is really sad.
That being said, american football has an effective play time between 15 and 20 minutes, which is absolutely ridiculous.

Off the 3, hockey doesn't have the longest play time but the actual playtime is very intense and no faking injuries.
Yet, it's obvious that hockey is cheap, a lot of equipment is needed+ice to skate on.

Come at me bro!

Golf is the perfect sport for folks who can't keep up with the hectic pace of baseball.

And it's not even a sport if the live fans have to be polite the whole time.

"Gymnastics isn't a sport because Romanians are good at it. Remember, my rules, I make em up!"

Great George Carlin bit.

Ah found the whole bit. Carlin was the best.

haha just watched it and the line after Romanians are good at it is actually "took me a long time to come up with that rule, but by god I thought of one." It's been a long time since I've seen that special.

"If you can play it while eating, it's not a sport."

Golf is my favorite sport to watch.

Come at me bro!

Golf has occupied the most background screen time in my life behind football. I saw the iconic 2005 Masters Tiger Woods chip-in live as it happened with the biggest ****-eating grin on my face afterwards.

I've lost all my golf buddies to relocations. I really need to find a new crew.

Hockey is great in person. And since HDTV, it's great on TV, too!

Golf is great on TV if I want to nap. Can't imagine wanting to watch it in person.

Someone's explain to me golf on TV.
I would play it.
Watching it???

By far, not even close, wouldn’t miss the others including poker if they all disappeared at midnight tonight.

Edit: A great boxing match still beats anything else though.

American football is an unlikely candidate to be interesting to non-American viewers because it is a highly strategic, coaching-intensive game, and that element of the sport isn't very accessible unless you grew up around the sport.

.

Small sample size but Euros & Africans and sportsball Americans I’ve known seem most baffled by baseball.

Hockey is like watching someone play old school pinball - the puck is pinging around all over the place but nothing is really happening. Soccer would be the same thing if they just allowed fights.
