I'd estimate there are between 150-200 pit attacks on a DAILY basis worldwide... but it's probably closer to 500+ daily attacks on humans and pets.... we're seeing like 30+ reports a day just in the US... and that doesn't include all the UNREPORTED or MISREPORTED attacks... so many news articles casually leave the breed out and they always know which breed, as law enforcement almost always identifies the breeds... the media is culpable in this epidemic...

Even if you believe the temperament of human races varies as much as it does for animals bred for specific purposes, clearly our bodies are not that different.
Pits have a destructive capacity way beyond most dogs'. So when they go nuts, they do far more damage and are difficult to escape or fight off.
This is why you can't walk around town with a lion. It has much less to do with the lion's temperament than the fact that it can do so much damage.
It should be illegal to breed pits. Owners should be criminally liable for their attacks.

My friend who is obsessed with this issue put it well. What is ultimately so frustrating is the sense of entitlement. Pit owners just think hundreds of deaths and thousands of hideous maimings are the price the rest of us have to pay in order for them to have one particular kind of dog intead of some other kind. Not to mention, having our own pets attacked and possibly killed.
