Poker only worked for him between 2004-2012 because everyone was so terrible then that his limited knowledge was enough to beat the games. After that, people have gotten marginally better (even in Vegas), and his outdated playing style have no chance at keeping up and sustain a decent win rate. It's sad really, because he doesn't realize how easy it is to win money at the lower

I like the sound of that. I wouldn't mind being a winning player. But I assume that requires a certain amount of play? How often, would you think? Once a week? More often than that?

Anyone not half an idiot has a chance to be a winning low stakes player if you define “winning” as spending 20+ hours a week with miserable people in a casino and netting about 5-10k a year for the effort. Tim or PMan both have that potential yes.

MULTIPLE foreign governments (like dozens) have issued official Travel Warnings to the US in the last couple months.
saying concerns are wildly exaggerated is simply incorrect.
the current White House administration is having a devastating impact on foreign travel for many US destinations

by BigWhale

First part is wildly exaggerated. I will agree that there are some easily impressionable people here in Europe that probably think the chance of being denied is higher than before, but that is only because the media suddenly have decided it's interesting to report about these rare instances. In reality, nothing has changed in this regard, irrespective of political leadership. As

Political theatre causing countries to issue warnings doesn't mean the concerns aren't wildly exaggerated. Where's the proof that these concerns are valid. Didn't hear any complaints from the wsop foreign players about entering the country. Tourism is definitely down not because of the USAs policies but the inane foreign response to our policies concerning illegal immigration.

Neither of those mouth breathers have that potential.

I think he was in Florida too during some of that time.

that's a strange distinction

have you seen tourism numbers lately?
here's a hint: they are cause for concern

by TheFranz

Where's the proof that these concerns are valid.

Foreign tourism is down. Now you can blame a vast conspiracy among multiple foreign governments, you can blame the moon rising in the house of Gemini, hell you can even blame George Soros.

The fact remains, for what ever mysterious reason, foreign tourism is down. So down, airlines are starting to reduce flights and cancel routes into the United States.

The fact that TheFranz doesn't think these concerns are valid doesn't change the fact that foreign tourism is down.

Actually considering the drop in value of the US dollar against foreign currency since January, foreign tourism should be booming. The US is cheaper now than it has been in a long time. Of course, the drop in the US dollar probably isn't valid either according to some, but the fact remains the euro, pound, lev, or whatever buys a lot more dollars now since January, but the foreign tourists simply aren't coming despite what you heard from people at the WSOP.

For those that missed it, foreign tourism is down, and shockingly the big tourist destination of Las Vegas numbers are down too. Maybe it is Obama's fault.

Us tourism to Canada is down significantly too. That's probably Justin Bieber's fault though .

Not for me they're not.

by TheFranz

not for me either really.
but many domestic visitors are freaking out, local workers are freaking out, employment is sky high, casino execs are freaking out, and foreign tourism has has dropped dramatically

This is only because of biased & dishonest reporting from foreign media, instead of any actual lived experiences. If you ask any foreign person who travelled to the WSOP this summer, they will for sure tell you that immigration was a breeze, and there was no need to self-report to the authorities if you are staying over 30 days (another inaccurate story) etc.

Believe me, I see how the media in several countries are reporting negatively about USA as soon as a certain person is elected. Which is something they never do as soon as someone else is in charge. And sadly too many people believe the headlines, which are often exaggerated or downright dishonest.

This discussion is probably for another thread though, so this will be my last post about it in here.

The comment about living in constant excitement should be scary for him because he basically confirmed something that he wrote in a blog a long time ago. He mentioned having a really bad gambling addiction in the past and has mentioned it a little bit in a video or two I saw before. Also it’s interesting to see his comment that poker was a good way to make money from 2004-2012.

This exactly….It seems he is hooked just like a degenerate. Sure, he is playing with an edge supposedly, but he is likely addicted to the hunt, the spins, the graphics, the sounds, etc. I’ve known slot degenerates, and it seems hard to be a winning slot player…right?? Even with AP? Like don’t you have to have a giant bankroll to handle the variance?

It’s crazy if you compare Trooper to Brad Owen’s blogs, who started blogging after the Trooper, and now Brad is playing 25k WSOP events and sitting with big dogs and his YouTube channel generates pretty good income for him. The difference, Brad was a student of the game. Brad never seemed to develop the “haters” against him that Trooper did, and therefore, never had to argue with the trolls.

I'm glad you had a good trip but to say that foreign media is exaggerating or being dishonest about the current political situation in the USA is not true.
it's a dumpster fire and a national embarrassment, and I won't talk about it further in this forum

...other than to say that the "One Big Beautiful Bill" had a last minute addition intended to significantly damage professional gambling including poker. and that is an undeniable fact

How many euros did you hear about having problems coming to wsop?

Trumps a jackass and the BBB is garbage but that doesn't mean the media on the other side isn't making things out to be way worse than they are.

I don't like discussing politics but there are real issues and I have concerns about specific things that I am sensitive about. when people say "nothing to see here, everything is fine, don't believe what you see around you", it upsets me.

it is relevant to this forum because Las Vegas is seeing significant negative impacts that are caused by a variety of factors.

poker players are a different breed and not always directly affected right away, but the larger ramifications can trickle down in the near future and damage the experience for more recreational players like you and me.

It might be good for Nomads since the room rates are lower.

However Trump signed an executive order against Nomads to put same in institutions yesterday. This violates the due process of Nomads since someone such as Pman who would be a Nomad but for having a free condo avoids institutionalization. Or Trooper who gets free housing via his girlfriend would avoid institutionalization merely due to having a girlfriend.

It is also culturally insensitive against both white and black American culture which kicks children out at 18 years old as opposed to chicano and asian culture which supports multi-generational families.

Again what euros had problems getting into wsop? They were all through customs in 5 mins.

There's a lot to not like about Trump and the BBB. the stuff about tourists being rounded up is sensationalism at its finest especially from Europe and Canada. To pretend the media isn't spinning false narratives bc they hate Trump is naive at best.

People in general are also really bad at looking at data when making decisions instead of being emotional.

You also claim to not like discussing politics while bringing up one political issue (tax ramifications of the BBB for gamblers in the US) that has nothing to do with another (how tourists are being treated in the US)

by borg23

Romanians. They were suppose to have visa free tourist entry when they were admitted to the Schengen Area but the current administration rescinded that access so they still have to pay several hundred dollars for a visa that is only granted after scheduling an in person interview to be asked 100 questions which takes several months for an appointment. I imagine any non Schengen Area euro country has the same issue. Stop your bullshit.

They were all through customs in 5 mins.

More bullshit. I am an American citizen. On my last reentry, I had to stand in line for 2 hours to get through customs. Nobody gets through US customs in 5 minutes.

Trump is the greatest nomad ever! He's living rent free in so many minds! Lol

How long once you gave your papers to customs? 5 minutes?

How long does it take to drive from New York to Las Vegas? Well once you hit Nevada, it doesnt take long at all. Again, stop your bullshit.
